Vast Resources CEO excited about addition of zinc production at Romanian mine
Chief Executive Roy Pitchford told Proactive that adding zinc concentrate would directly enhance profitability through an increase in revenue and a reduction in costs per tonne. He added that the production of zinc at its Manaila polymetallic mine provides the company with a second commodity and revenue stream in addition to copper. Initial commissioning was in the first week of September and since then 50 tonnes of concentrate have been produced. The AIM-listed company is targeting production of 150-200 tonnes per month. In terms of Vast's operations in Zimbabwe, Roy Pitchford told Proactive things are going really well and its gold mine is operating far beyond expectations. He also mentioned that Vast has appointed Brian Moritz, a veteran accountant and corporate finance specialist, as a non-executive director. ''He brings the background, expertise, experience and maturity to the board that we need'', said Pitchford.

John Kaiser: The Zinc Price Will Go a Lot Higher Than People Expect
Zinc got off to a rough start in 2016, but it ended the year as the best-performing metal on the LME. Many market watchers are optimistic about the base metal's prospects in 2017, and John Kaiser of Kaiser Research is one of them. In the video interview above, he explains zinc's supply and demand dynamics, noting that in the past there's been little interest in bringing new zinc deposits online because China has been such a dominant producer. "Because China has always increased supply to meet any growth in demand, the price has never really gone up, so nothing has been developed," he says. Now, however, Chinese zinc production is running into problems. According to Kaiser, China produces the metal from small deposits, "many of them very polluting" — as the country continues to crack down on pollution, it will become more difficult for it to produce as much zinc as it has in the past. "That, I think, will help zinc go a lot higher than people expect," he believes. In light of those circumstances, Kaiser sees zinc optionality plays as "really interesting." InZinc Mining (TSXV:IZN), which is focused on its Utah-based West Desert project, is one of his favorites. "This is almost like a hybrid optionality type of system where we know this is here, we know at what price this is worth developing, but is there a lot more," he says. Watch the video for more of Kaiser's thoughts on InZinc Mining and the zinc market as a whole. He also discusses Arizona Mining (TSX:AZ), which was one of his picks last year. Ironbark Zinc 'on the cusp' of developing what could be a global Top 5 zinc mine
Ironbark Zinc Ltd (ASX:IBG) managing director Jonathan Downes speaks to Proactive Investors about the base metals-focused company's Citronen Zinc-Lead Project in northern-Greenland. "This year we’re taking a ship to site and on board will be about $1 million worth of fuel and we’re planning to allow a very rapid ramp up next year, so that’s really the key, to get that up there. We are taking a mining team and commencing the early site works, some foundation works, a portal and a box cut into the main orebody as well. So we’ll start active mining, and next year will be the major construction event, and the following year we hope to be in early commissioning stage of the process plant, so heading into being a world-class mining operation there after," explains Downes. Ironbark Zinc has also identified germanium in the orebody, a commodity associated with rapidly increasing demand worth around US$2.3 million per tonne.

SAG MILL Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) RAMPURA AGUCHA ZINC MINES - Vedanta Resources
Rampura Agucha is a zinc and lead mine in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, India. It has world's largest deposits of zinc and lead.[1] The mine is owned by Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL). Rampura-Agucha deposits were discovered in August, 1977 by T. C. Rampuria, a geologist with the Government of Rajasthan's Directorate of Mines and Geology. Hindustan Zinc Limited started drilling in February, 1980 and a report regarding the estimate of the deposit was submitted in 1981. The development of this mine started in 1988 and the first ore production was in March 1991. Rampura-Agucha has a combination of open pit mine and underground mine Chanderiya smelter complex was built in the Chittorgarh district to refine the zinc-lead ore of this mine.[2] Rampura Agucha is today the world's largest zinc producing mine. Rampura Agucha is located 220 km from Jaipur. It is north of Bhilwara, and northwest of Shahpura. Rampura-Agucha is 17 km southeast of bijainagar on NH 79. SAG Mill - Semi-Autogenous Grinding Mill A semi-autogenous grinding mill, or Sag mill, is responsible for grinding materials from large chunks into small, usable pieces for processing. The Sag mill is usually part of the primary stage in the grinding process. Pieces of raw or fairly reduced materials are ground into smaller pieces for further processing or sorting. These machines are typically electrically powered, but have been modified from a variety of powering systems over the years. Utility of a SAG Mill A Sag mill is most often used in the mining fields, particularly in the mining of precious metals such as gold, copper, silver, and nickel. The sag mill serves in the line of industrial mining equipment designed to process, crush, separate, or locate precious metals from mined coal. The Sag mill is one of the large mining equipment pieces, and often requires mining equipment repair and maintenance. This is most often due to the large amount of heavy, residue bearing material being churned through the large drums of the grind mill. The Sag mill uses lifting plates along the interior of the drum, which lift material throughout the rotations, causing them to fall onto one another to promote crushing. It can often be necessary service a variety of industrial gold mining equipment, coal mining equipments, and other relevant large mining equipment. People who work on these machines must understand the intricate details involved with refurbishment of mining equipment and take great care in each stage of the machinery repair process. These details require a trained eye and skilled hand to ensure that the machinery continues to function properly. SAG Mill & Maintenance Some of the necessary services to Sag mill machinery include tech support during the building and application processes for mining equipments manufacturers. Other services include fabrication of parts, mining equipment repair, and refurbishing of mining equipment. This type of equipment is extremely important to production and business, and it is necessary to take painstaking care in handling the equipment. Professionals should be extremely knowledgeable in this equipment. When machinery shuts down, or the process is slowed down by problematic parts, so do production and profit making. Mining machinery maintenance and modifications to keep production running at its best. Sag mill operations are no exceptions. Particularly, it is important to ensure that the lifting plates, rotating drums, mill rotators, and other machine components maintain their optimal operating capabilities at all times by ensuring that precautionary and routine maintenance procedures are completed up to date and on time. Sag mill mining equipment, as well as other mining equipments, are critical to the Canadian mining industry. Sag mill has a long standing history in mining production, and must be handled carefully and with caution to ensure safety and optimal production at all times. Gold mining industry equipment and coal mining industry equipment are among the most serviced types of mill mining equipment that requires maintenance and modification.

Nevsun in Eritrea : Dealing With a Dictator - the fifth estate
When a small Vancouver mining company Nevsun struck gold in a remote corner of Africa, it started with so much promise. In remote Eritrea, Nevsun built a mine that was generating $700 million in profits in its first four years of operation. But it was also generating a lot of controversy – because Nevsun was partnered with a brutal dictatorship that runs the country and controls 40% of the mine. That has led to allegations by the UN and Human Rights Watch that the regime has used conscripted military labour in the mine. The Eritrea government has also been accused of funneling arms to the terrorist group al-Shabaab. Nevsun denies the allegations of human rights abuses and insists it is a “template for responsible international business.” What is the price of doing business with a dictator? Mark Kelley investigates. For more on the fifth estate : http://www.cbc.ca/fifth Follow us on Twitter : http://www.twitter.com/cbcfifth Like us on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/thefifthestate

Anglo Asian’s finance chief on copper plans and zinc potential
Bill Morgan, finance chief at Anglo Asian Mining (LON:AAZ), comments on the company’s plans to boost its copper and zinc production in Azerbaijan next year. A flotation plant at the firm’s Gedabek mine has allowed it to start shipping copper – with 500 wet tonnes expected to be shipped by the end of this year. The plan is to ramp-up production at the plant going forward. Zinc found in the ore had been contaminating the copper – but that’s been sorted and the firm is now looking at producing a zinc concentrate in addition to copper. Meanwhile, Anglo is comfortable at the current gold price level and will look to maintain annual production around the 72,000 and 74,000 ounce mark in 2016.

Death mines: Mine workers in Rajasthan suffer without an identity
The mining sector provides employment to lakhs of people in Rajasthan and earns crores for the state. In 2014-15 the sector earned revenue of around Rs 3,635 crore for Rajasthan. However, it has come at a heavy price. The state is becoming the epicentre for occupational diseases such as Silicosis, a lung disease caused by breathing tiny bits of silica. Lack of treatment and monetary compensation for occupational diseases is one of the biggest fallouts for workers, who have no proof of identity as mine labourers. This lack of identity is what makes them vulnerable with no social benefits, provident fund or minimum wages. As the Centre and the State keep passing the buck, everyone, from the administration to the mine owners shirk their responsibilities. And mine workers remain on the periphery without identity, despite being the backbone of a growing industry. Thom Calandra: Bullish on Zinc and Copper
Thom Calandra of the Calandra Report is bullish on zinc, listing Ivanhoe Mines (TSX:IVN,OTCQX:IVPAF) and Thunderstruck Resources (TSXV:AWE) as some of the zinc companies that he owns and follows. Investing News Network: I know uranium isn’t the only thing that you know about. Are there any other commodities that you are going to be watching closely this year? Thom Calandra: I’m much better known for are The Calandra Report and The Calandra Network. Much better known for platinum, copper, gold especially. I remember at CBS MarketWatch or marketwatch.com, dying my hair gold and goes at $400 an ounce. We were living in London at the time and I was building up one of our products for Europe. So that was a lot of fun. And I think we’re going to have a lot more fun with gold. Zinc is getting to be more and more interesting of course. I’m a big believer in Ivanhoe and now of course, so as everyone else, but I’ve owned Ivanhoe when it was a private company in South Africa in 2003. And Ivanhoe has terrific zinc, copper, gold, and platinum properties, and palladium and nickel in South Africa in the DRC, Congo. I think if you really want roll the dice and I own some of this one as well on zinc and copper: Thunderstruck Resources is tiny… if it’s a guy at $8 million market cap that will be a lot. It’s on the island of Fiji, zinc on Fiji I’ll take it’s a lot I’ll take it. I know the management, they’re honest, I respect them. If zinc continues to do well as it has been, some of these industrial metals have done well zinc, cobalt, lithium I think will do well. But mostly on zinc my exposure comes through Ivanhoe, a tiny bit from Thunderstruck, and a company called Golden Valley Mines in Quebec. INN: Thank you so much for sharing with us today.

Ystrad Einion copper mine Santa Dash 2016
A very short video, mainly because I took hardly any footage, pictures by Hils and Lavino. this is the 3rd annual santa dash at Ystrad Enion copper mine.. Ystrad Einion lead-silver, zinc and copper mine is one of the most northerly metal mines in Ceredigion, situated in the heart of Cwm Einion. Mining had been carried out here in a small way since the 18th century, but the main period of activity came in the final decades of the 19th century, when Lancastrian entrepreneur Adam Mason leased the land from the Pryses of Gogerddan and sank over £3000 in state-of-the-art equipment. Ystrad Einion was a relatively small mine; a report of 1891 notes just 11 miners working at the site, 9 men labouring underground and 2 lads, aged between 13 and 18 above ground. It also proved spectacular unprofitable, with minimal, if any, returns. In 1891 the mine produced 5 tons of silver bearing lead (value £37), 10 tons of zinc ore (value £15) and 5 tons of copper ore (value £7). The mine was closed in 1903, when much of the machinery was sold or scrapped. The above ground remains of the mine have been consolidated and are accessible to the public. Here processing to recover the metal ore took place. Water provided the main source of power and was brought to the site via a leat running off from the River Einion 2km up stream. The wheel pits for three waterwheels survive, one wheel powered the pumps and winding drum at the main shaft head, another powered the stone breaker and crusher machinery in the crusher house, where lumps of ore bearing rock were reduced to a manageable size, and the third powered the jiggers and buddles which sorted and separated the metal ore. Other features of the site included waste tips, two stone ore bins, a blacksmiths shop, an ore store, an elaborate system of settling troughs and ponds to purify the poisonous wastewater, a gunpowder magazine set away from the other buildings and a series of tramways together with an incline that transported ore, waste and other materials around the site. Below ground are 4 levels of workings, accessed through adits cut in the hillside and linked by a number of shafts that reached an ultimate depth of 50 fathoms. A waterwheel (NPRN 415676) which operated drainage pumps and a winding drum survives below ground and is unique in its survival.

Silver Mining Documentary - How Silver Is Mined and Reformed - Prehistoric TV
Silver Mining Documentary - How Silver Is Mined and Reformed - Prehistoric TV Silver is a chemical element with symbol Ag (from the Latin argentum, derived from the Greek ὰργὀς: "shiny" or "white") and atomic number 47. A soft, white, lustrous transition metal, it exhibits the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and reflectivity of any metal. The metal is found in the Earth's crust in the pure, free elemental form ("native silver"), as an alloy with gold and other metals, and in minerals such as argentite and chlorargyrite. Most silver is produced as a byproduct of copper, gold, lead, and zinc refining. Silver has long been valued as a precious metal. Silver metal is used in many bullion coins, sometimes alongside gold: while it is more abundant than gold, it is much less abundant as a native metal. Its purity is typically measured on a per-mille basis; a 94%-pure alloy is described as "0.940 fine". As one of the seven metals of antiquity, silver has had an enduring role in most human cultures. Silver is used in numerous applications other than currency, such as solar panels, water filtration, jewellery, ornaments, high-value tableware and utensils (hence the term silverware), and as an investment medium (coins and bullion). Silver is used industrially in electrical contacts and conductors, in specialized mirrors, window coatings, and in catalysis of chemical reactions. Silver compounds are used in photographic film and X-rays. Dilute silver nitrate solutions and other silver compounds are used as disinfectants and microbiocides (oligodynamic effect), added to bandages and wound-dressings, catheters, and other medical instruments. Patrick Cullen, CEO of Connemara Mining Company Plc (AIM:CON)
Connemara’s strategic objective is to create shareholder value by exploring in Ireland, one of the most prospective countries in the world for zinc, using our experience to identify prospective ground and develop joint ventures with major mining companies. Ireland continues to produce over 25% of Western Europe’s zinc and lead at Boliden’s Tara mine. All the major players are involved here including Glencore and Teck and recently Vedanta and Lundin. Connemara has interests in 3 major project blocks in close proximity to zinc mining operations or with drilled mineralisation. There is a current revival of interest in gold with exploration and reserve definition projects as well as mining ongoing in a number of areas, notably the operating Omagh Gold Mine and the significant gold reserve established at the Curraghinalt Project in County Tyrone. Connemara is following up on its 2016 discovery in bordering County Donegal at its 100% owned Inishowen Project.

The mining industry has been bleeding jobs since 2012. According to Stats SA, almost 50,000 jobs were lost between 2012 to 2015, mostly in the gold and platinum sectors. Vendetta Mining: Preparing for More Drilling at the Pegmont Lead-Zinc Deposit
At last week's 2015 PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange, Resource Investing News had the chance to speak with Michael Williams, CEO of Vendetta Mining (TSXV:VTT). Vendetta's focus is on advanced-stage exploration projects in Australia, and it's currently working on moving the Queensland-based Pegmont lead-zinc project forward. In this interview, Williams goes over the highlights from recently released maiden drill results from Pegmont, also touching on work completed at the deposit by previous companies. Up next for the company will be "more drilling to confirm that the mineralization continues from [Zone 5]." Vendetta also hit a zone close to surface in the last round of drilling, and wants "to see how big that zone is, as well." Metallurgical testing will be part of the next phase as well. In closing, Williams comments on whether he sees Pegmont being able to take advantage of the zinc price rise that many believe is imminent. "You always worry about the zinc market because it tends to get ahead of itself and it can pull back quickly, for instance, when you see Chinese production," he said, adding, "I think given the fact where we are with Pegmont we can still catch that cycle."

The mining giant Glencore is in a race against time to find solutions for dealing with reactive waste rock on its McArthur River Mine in the Northern Territory. Zinc major invests millions in new smart tech project in South Africa
South Africa is hoping that a new multi-million-dollar project will revolutionise its mining sector. Rather than the country's traditional gold or platinum, this initiative centres on another mineral -- zinc. Engineers are using state-of-the-art technology to develop a digitised, smart-ore movement system. International giant Vedanta Zinc is partnering with General Electric South Africa on the project. It's expected to come on stream in 2018, as Angelo Coppola explains.
