Just click on this link: http://canadian-tax-academy.teachable.com/courses/preparing-canadian-income-tax-returns?product_id=95823&coupon_code=69_YOUTUBE_PITC&preview=logged_out COMPLETELY UPDATED FOR 2017 T1 TAX RETURNS (THE 2018 TAX PREPARATION SEASON). Once income has been determined, the next important step in the T1 preparation process is to determine the deductions from income that can be claimed. In general, there are not very many deductions from income, especially if you have employment and pension income. The common deductions found in the deduction section of the T1 General return are: Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) deductions; Registered Pension Plan (RPP) deductions if you are an employee and contribute to a pension plan at work; moving expenses, child care expenses (form T778), employment expenses for those who meet the criteria (Form T2200 and the T777 Statement of Employment Expenses), Allowable Business Investment Losses (ABILs); capital gains deductions, deductions for spousal support paid, etc. It is important to distinguish between a tax deduction and a tax credit. Tax credits are not claimed in the second section of the T1 general return. Those are the subject of the next training video in this series and can be found on Schedule 1 – Fedeeral Tax of the T1 return. The following are the other videos in this YouTube training series on Preparing T1 Personal Tax Returns Part 1 - Inputting Proper Personal Information (Part 1 of 5) https://youtu.be/o2NwudCiuuQ Part 2 - Reporting income and inputting T-slips on the T1 tax return https://youtu.be/x2N9D-jwnvA Part 4 - Claiming personal tax credits on Schedule 1 and the T1 General Return Part 5 - Doing a final review and reasonability test of your T1 tax return You can check out my other YouTube tax videos here along with a detailed outline of the Canadian tax Academy Preparing Personal Tax Returns – Introductory course. Preparing Tax Returns - Best Practices: A valuable tool in the tax return review process

08:48
Preparing Tax Returns - Best Practices: A valuable tool in the tax return review process This tutorial was taken from the intermediate online tax course offered at the Canadian Tax Academy called Preparing Tax Returns Start to Finish - Best Practices. You can check it out at our website: www.CanadianTaxCourses.com To enrol at the promotional price of $89 (normally $199), click on this link: https://canadian-tax-academy.teachable.com/p/preparing-tax-returns-start-to-finish-best-practices/?product_id=196667&coupon_code=YOUTUBE_PROMO89 We offer in-depth tax courses on Canadian tax returns and filling out the T1 General tax return from start to finish. The courses are, by far, the most comprehensive tax courses on the internet offering real world tax training and guidance. Preparing personal T1 returns can be quite a challenge in today's Canadian tax landscape. It is not enough to just enter the tax slips and information a client provides you. A good tax preparer will do a thorough review as opposed to just inputting data and filing the tax return. In this tax software tutorial, I review a very valuable tool in the tax preparation review process. I show you how to use the Comparative Tax Summary found on most professional tax software to figure out what the client could be missing. It ensures that an extra step is taken to ensure you have all of the client information to complete the T1 Return accurately. In this tutorial, I use the Canadian tax software called Intuit Profile which is the same company that develops QuickBooks and TurboTax which is an off the shelf Canadian tax preparation software package. The comparative summary is available on all professional tax software, including CCH TaxPrep. Off-the-shelf pacakges such as Ufile, TurboTax and others should have similar functions. For more information on tax software, check out the following links: Intuit Profile http://profile.intuit.ca/professional-tax-software/ CCH (Walters Kluwer) TaxPrep http://www.taxprep.com/ Tax Cycle & DoxCycle https://www.taxcycle.com/ Turbo Tax http://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax-software U-File http://www.ufile.ca/ TaxTron http://www.taxtron.ca/ H&R Block Tax Software https://www.hrblock.ca/online-tax-software

In this video tutorial, I review the first step in the T1 Tax preparation process by looking at the personal information portion of the T1 General Return found on page 1 (and page 2 of certain software). You may think that this is a waste of time but do you realize how important this information truly is? In this tutorial we look at how important the marital status is on the general information page. We also examine issues with disclosing the primary residence and mailing address of a taxpayer and how CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) uses this information to determine the Province of Residence. A look at immigration and emigration to and from Canada is also briefly discussed along with the importance of disclosing this properly on the T1 Return. Canadian Tax Academy – My online Canadian Income Tax school is developed and focused on teaching students in tax and accounting the practical side of tax preparation. My tax training courses are a great supplement to any college and university tax courses where the primary focus is typically on the theoretical side of Canadian tax. With over 10,000 personal tax returns under my belt, I will guide you through the step by step process of preparing personal tax returns quickly and accurately. The following are links the other YouTube video tutorials in this training series: Part 2 - Reporting income and inputting T-slips on the T1 tax return Part 3 - Determining T1 income tax deductions and reporting on the T1 return Part 4 - Claiming personal tax credits on Schedule 1 and the T1 General Return Part 5 - Doing a final review and reasonability test of your T1 tax return You can check out my other YouTube tax videos here along with a detailed outline of the Canadian tax Academy Preparing Personal Tax Returns – Introductory course. You can have all the tax preparer training out there, but if you don't have a professional tax preparation program, then you may be doing your tax clients a disservice. Canadian tax software can be broken down into two categories - standard tax software you can buy off-the-shelf your local office or electronics outlet, and professional tax software for tax preparers which you would have to purchase a licencse for it's use. In this tutorial, I review the difference between these two software types so that you can make the decision as to which one is most suitable for you.
