ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills. ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.

Solving a Cryptogram at Cryptograms.org

00:24
Sample solve of a cryptogram on http://www.cryptograms.org, showing how some puzzles can be solved quite quickly thanks to cascading patterns. This one was solved in 18 seconds. My personal best solve time has been around 12 seconds, and there are those who have legitimately solved puzzles in as little as 8 seconds. What's the secret? Practice, practice, practice! The more you solve, the more patterns you'll recognize. In this case I tried "THE" right away because of the first word's "6-7-11" frequency distribution. It turned out to be right, and that revealed the -H--H pattern lower down, which seasoned solvers will know right away is almost always "WHICH". That opened up the second half of the quote pretty quickly, but then I got stuck on --R-OSE for a moment and switch to the T- and made it "TO". I hesitated after that for a few precious seconds until I realized it was "LAY BARE" and "QUESTIONS", and then "PURPOSE" fell into place and the puzzle was solved. No magic and no cheating required!

Just sharing a recent gift I made for someone very special to me. It is a Cinch-Bound journal with a collection of printed puzzles and pretty papers. (So another hybrid project.) The goal is that it will double as a journal, not only for solving puzzles, but also for jotting down thoughts that may be inspired by the definition stamps strategically placed on every sheet of home-printed lined paper. ;) What a wonderfully fun project to get others involved in the therapeutic magic of writing in a journal! I just have to make one of these for myself! I think it will be filled with chess puzzles (smiles)! It's a surprise so shhh don't tell! Stamps are Stampin' Up & Tattered Angels Pens are Sakura Papers: Neutrals - Puzzles and Lines Printed on Neutrals" (Stampin' Up!) Then variety of Tim Holtz (Paper Stash), and Graphic45 (Renaissance Fair) Enjoy! Audrie http://girlgeek.stampinup.net

Solve Geocaching Puzzles with Chris Hache - Substitution Cipher - Alphabet

09:30
In this lesson we will look at a substitution cipher that uses one alphabet to substitute for another. You first need to understand where to find the alphabet that you need to decipher. Then, you need to figure what alphabet you are trying to decipher. Remember, any alphabet is just a series of agreed-upon drawings, so this would work for other existing languages or even made-up ones. Google is your friend – make sure to check for your alphabet using “images” to quickly see which “drawings” will match. Try a few letters – see if it makes sense. If it does, keep going! If it doesn’t, try to see why it doesn’t (maybe it’s a puzzle within a puzzle…) Additional information and tools (please let me know of any broken links): i. Wikipedia page about substitution ciphers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substitution_cipher ii. A site that has many cipher examples - http://luthorien.altervista.org/Tools/ iii. The Zodiac Ciphers - What do we know, and when do we stop trying to solve them?

37:36
http://zodiackillerciphers.com This is a talk I gave at the 2015 Cryptologic History Symposium on October 22, 2015. I've been studying the Zodiac ciphers for a while now, and this presentation is a culmination of my research. The talk was part of the "Ciphers and Crime" panel moderated by FBI historian John Fox. Fellow panelists included FBI Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit chief Dan Olson and encryption technology author Klaus Schmeh. For much more information about the Zodiac Ciphers, please visit http://zodiackillerciphers.com Some bits of the audio dropped out due to technical issues with my sound recorder - apologies for the parts that are hard to understand! BONUS MATERIAL: At the end of the video, I recorded some new material on miscellaneous things I didn't have time to include in the presentation. ERRATA: At 28m59s, I say the 408 is missing a word or phrase between parts 1 and 2. But actually it is missing between parts 2 and 3.

Cryptogram solved in 15 seconds

00:17
Another example of a quick solve at http://www.cryptograms.org. In this case "THERE ARE" was a strong guess to open the quote due to the repetition of the Es and Rs. From there we had -REAT which was clearly "GREAT", then GRO-TH to "GROWTH" and BE-A--E is a familiar pattern for "BECAUSE"... and from there OF HUMAN INTELLIGENCE, once filled in, pretty much all but completed the puzzle. Just had to enter the final D and we were done.

Cryptarithmatic Problems Artificial Intelligence | Solved Example | (Eng-hindi) | #9

11:39
Cryptarithmetic is a type of mathematical game consisting of a mathematical equation among unknown numbers, whose digits are represented by letters. The goal is to identify the value of each letter. In this video we learn tips and tricks to solve these verbal arithmetic problems. Cryptarithmetic is the science and art of creating and solving cryptarithms. A cryptarithm is a genre of mathematical puzzle in which the digits are replaced by letters of the alphabet or other symbols. The invention of Cryptarithmetic has been ascribed to ancient China. This art was originally known as letter arithmetic or verbal arithmetic. In India, during the Middle Ages, were developed the arithmetical restorations or "skeletons" a type of cryptarithms in which most or all of the digits have been replaced by asterisks. The word cryptarithmetic ("cryptarithmie" in French) was introduced by M. Vatriquant, writing under the pseudonym Minos, in the May 1931 issue of Sphinx, a Belgian magazine of recreational mathematics published in French from 1931 to 1939. A type of alphametic addition puzzle termed "doubly-true" was introduced in 1945 by Alan Wayne. It is made up of "number words" that, when read, also form a valid sum. Side notes: I lost sight of going past the first number to reach the second, but hey, this is meant for R&R, not as a tutorial! (I do know about those). And this video will be one of at least two in a series, since I plan to purchase a practice lock set & lockpicks for a future "Locksmith's Apprentice" video, and then maybe followed up by "Breaking into the EOF's Cabinet", then "Caught by the Police", "Serving Time", "The Break Out", "Seeking Revenge" and then the top secret unnamed season finale. Of course, all this after first completing "The Plague Doctor's Apprentice" and "The Candy Man's Apprentice", respectively. Cryptograms are mathematical puzzles where capital letters stand in for the digits of a number. If you see the use of same letters twice or more then it's the same digit in all places.
