Australian Patrol Bases : Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan. (F09580)

17:32
Australian Patrol Bases : Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan. (F09580) A seventeen minute piece featuring the inhabitants and surrounds of Patrol Base Samad, one of the newer base in the Baluchi Valley of Uruzgan, and insight into Australian operations at Patrol Base Mirwais. It is a short flight on a Chinook resupply helicopter from the main Australian base in Tarin Kot to Patrol Base Samad. But when you arrive in the arid expanse around the base, you quickly get a sense of the isolation and remoteness of this small outpost. In this, the second of three commissioned documentaries produced by John Martinkus for the Memorial., John observes the arrival of new Australian troops to the remote Patrol Base Samad. With assistance from the Sergeant assigned to act as his contact officer, John clearly outlines the difficult living conditions, including physical hardships and threat of Taliban attacks, under which Australian troops worked whilst mentoring Afghan National Army troops in this remote Afghanistan base during 2011. Samad presents a strong visual contrast with Patrol Base Mirwais, which overlooks a green zone. John interviews several Australian personnel stationed there who provide frank insight into their experiences including close contacts with Taliban forces, while patrolling in the green zone. (Whilst here John also interviewed David Savage, a well-known Ausaid worker, who six months after filming was severely injured in a child suicide bomber attack .See Chris Masters' interview with David Savage on our YouTube channel.) This documentary was made from some of the twenty seven hours of footage shot by him during his deployment to Afghanistan in 2011 as the Memorial's official cinematographer. The film opens with a Chinook helicopter arriving at Patrol Base Samad, bringing personnel reinforcement, fuel for the generators, and a box of fruit for this remote base where all supplies arrive by helicopter or the occasional convoy. Moving to forward operating base Mirwais, a discussion is had with a returning Australian patrol about their activities and a recent ANA and Taliban contact. The image of a memorial to Australian serviceman, displaying the names of those who were killed in action while serving at the base, closes the piece. Liebherr - Mining Truck T 264 at Expomin 2014

02:13
The Liebherr T 264 mining truck was one of the top attractions for Expomin 2014. After being transported from the US Liebherr factory by sea, the T 264 was then assembled at the show site in the same manner as it would be at any mine site. It took the team of ten Liebherr technicians and engineers from Chile, Australia, and the USA twelve calendar days of assembly time to complete the truck for the show. The T 264 at Expomin 2014 is the first of many of this model expected to come to Chile. Blowhole rehabilitation to increase soil cover

04:16
Linden Masters, Regional Landcare Facilitator on the Eyre Peninsula and Terry Schmucker, a farmer from Waddikee on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, discuss Terry's innovative approach to solving sand hill blow holes on his property. Years of drought and unsustainable farming practices have resulted in large blow holes developing on the dune swale country of the eastern and central Eyre Peninsula. Terry's move to no till and variable rate farming practices have inspired him to find a solution to turning unproductive sand hills into productive areas whilst eliminating erosion risk. The smudge bar that Terry designed and built levels blow holes and with the use of bio solids and clay, he is able to stabilise sand hills, overcome non wetting issues and begin to grow productive crops on these areas. This is another video supported by the Social Media in Agriculture project funded by Australian Government's Caring for our Country initiative.

Troubles in Coal Hit Railroad Employees

02:01
American railroads carry coal from mines in Wyoming to power plants. As demand for coal in the U.S. drops, it affects the railroads too. Across the country, more than 5,000 railroad employees have been furloughed, including Adam Fotta, who worked for BNSF as an engineer and conductor. Inside Energy talked to Fotta about how this furlough has hit him.

US NAVY - Boeing P-8 Poseidon Long Range Multimission Maritime Aircraft [720p]

06:21
The Boeing P-8 Poseidon is the US Navy's next generation long-range maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare, anti-shipping, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. In 2011 the US Navy awarded a contract for six initial production P-8A Poseidon aircraft. The first operational aircraft was delivered in 2012. The US Navy plans to purchase a total of 117 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to replace the previous Lockheed P-3 Orion fleet, that are approaching the end of their operational life. Australia and India also ordered this new aircraft. The P-8A is a derivative of the ubiquitous commercial Boeing 737-800 and has a wings of the 737-900. It is larger than the previous Lockheed P-3. The Poseidon has additional fuel tanks in the aft for extended range. It is worth mentioning that its maximum fuel capacity is 34 t and gives it a flight endurance of 4 hours on station. The new aircraft is powered by two high-bypass CFM International CFM56-7B turbofan engines. The turbofan engines were deliberately selected, as they are more powerful, more fuel efficient and have a number of other advantages. The same engines are used on Australian and Turkish Boeing 737 airborne early warning and control aircraft, as well as the US Navy's C-40 Clipper transport. The Poseidon is not the only maritime patrol aircraft to use the jet engines. The British Nimrod has filled a similar role for decades. Despite that the Poseidon can loiter at a speed of 333 km/h over the sea at an altitude of only 60 m. This maritime patrol and ASW aircraft will have up to 7 operator consoles in its cabin. Aircraft will have electro-optical and infrared sensor turret, maritime surveillance radar, signal intelligence system. Its radar is capable of detection, classification and identification of ships, small vessels and surfaced submarines. It also has costal surveillance capability. The P-8A will be also fitted with advanced magnetic anomaly detection system for submarine tracking. The Poseidon can be used for search and rescue operations. The Boeing P-8A Poseidon will carry lightweight Raytheon Mk.54 anti-submarine torpedoes. It may also carry other torpedoes, missiles, free-fall bombs, depth charges, mines, or sonbuoys in its rotary integral weapon bay, located beneath the forward section of the fuselage. Air-to-surface and air-to air missiles, such as Harpoon anti-ship missiles, SLAM or AGM-65 Maverick land attack missiles, and AIM-9 Sidewinders or AIM-120 AMRAAMs will be carried on the underwing hardpoints. The Boeing P-8I Neptune is a version for the Indian Navy. India ordered 8 of these aircraft. First aircraft was delivered in 2013. There is also a Boeing P-8 Airborne Ground Surveillance (AGS) version. In 2010 it was proposed to the US Air Force as a replacement of the E-8 Joint STARS aircraft. This aircraft is intended for tracking moving vehicles on the ground.

Fly by of Williams open pit Gold Mine in Ontario

00:55
On a VFR flight from Geraldton Ontario to Sault Ste Marie I used the Williams open pit mine as a check point. Its right on the trans canada and easy to spot from miles away so its a awesome landmark to use. The Williams mine is jointly owned by Teck Cominco and Barrick Gold. Its Primarily an underground operation now but it started off with some open-pit mining, it has been operating since the fall of 1985. It is set to close soon as it is almost played out. The Williams mine is one of the largest gold-producing mines in Canada! I was Flying a DA-20 C-FRIZ on a cross country ferry from Cooking lake Alberta to Buttonville Ontario.

SUPER FAST stealth attack boat for the US military and Navy

05:43
Another great idea for the us military and us navy . This fast attack stealth boat will make a difference. GHOST is a super-cavitating surface craft which is able to achieve 900 times less hull friction compared to a conventional watercraft and is developed by US Citizens for the US Navy at no cost to the US government for providing superior protection to US service personnel. The craft was built by Juliet Marine Systems. The secrecy orders on the project were removed on 11 August 2011[1] Design The Ghost uses a gyro-stabilized dual-pontoon supercavitating hull to run at top speed through 10-foot seas. Called small waterplane-area twin-hull (SWATH), it is controlled by 22 computer-controlled underwater control surfaces. When at rest or moving slowly, the Ghost sits in the water on its centerline module. At eight knots or faster, the high-grade marine aluminum buoyant hulls lift the vessel and achieve full stability. Propulsion on the prototype is provided by T53-703 turboshaft engines, with the company planning to replace them with the General Electric T700 turboshaft. The Ghost has achieved speeds of over 30 knots, and is being tested to 50 knots. It can perform several different missions including anti-surface warfare (ASuW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), and mine countermeasures (MCM): ASuW armament consists of the M197 20mm rotary cannon and launch tubes that expel exhaust downward between the struts of the SWATH hulls, concealing and dissipating the thermal signature of the launch for BGM-176B Griffin missiles and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System rockets, with an electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor and radar; an ASW version could be equipped with an EO/IR sensor, radar, sonobuoy launch tubes, a dipping sonar, and four aft-firing torpedo tubes; an MCM version could be equipped with a towing boom to lower and raise two towed mine-hunting sonars, such as the Kline 5000 or Raytheon AN/AQS-20A. The current Ghost costs $10 million per copy, is crewed by 3-5 sailors, and can be partially disassembled to fit in a C-17 Globemaster III for transport if needed. It is designed for fleet protection for navies with few blue-water needs but require a small and affordable craft in large numbers for near-shore maritime border patrol and defense missions; it is being offered to international customers including Bahrain, Qatar, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Singapore. High-level discussions have been held with a foreign nation interested in 25 Ghosts for a potential $300 million sale. Juliet Marine is also offering a scaled-up version of the Ghost to the U.S. Navy as part of their re-evaluation of the Littoral Combat Ship program. Plans are to build a corvette-sized Ghost of 150 ft (46 m) in length or more costing about $50 million per vessel, six times cheaper than the $300 million per-ship cost of a current Freedom-class and Independence-class littoral combat ship. One impediment to the U.S. Navy procuring the Ghost is the desire of senior Navy leaders to have large-hulled oceangoing vessels that can also perform inshore operations rather than smaller craft specialized for inshore missions.[2][3] Juliet Marine Systems is a maritime technology think tank that is developing innovative solutions for naval and commercial applications. We seek to assure fleet force protection in response to small vessel terrorist attacks against our Navy and coalition ships. There is a clear and present danger of these tactics being used against the U.S. Navy throughout the world and in our home ports. These same innovative technologies, applied to commercial needs, will provide a significant decrease in transit time and increase in energy efficiency, resulting in the savings of thousands of gallons of fuel daily. Our Navy is in a revolutionary period of change. Historic military tactics combined with modern materials and technology present a formidable fleet protection challenge for our Navy today. One of the greatest threats to our Navy is low tech vessel attacks with conventional explosives, as seen on October 12, 2000, when the USS Cole was attacked, killing 17 sailors and wounding 39 others and in the continued success of pirates. As a maritime systems think tank, Juliet Marine Systems provides offensive, defensive and ISR solutions that are developed in a skunk works operation able to rapidly invent and construct needed technologies and systems for the Navy and armed forces. We have already developed a surface variant of a super cavitating craft and are planning to apply our unique technology in a UUV prototype. While the GHOST is a surface vessel, the hydrodynamics of the twin submerged buoyant tubular foils are also a test bed for Juliet Marine's next planned prototype, a long duration UUV. The GHOST is a revolutionary proprietary technology vessel platform that will assure force protection through stealth fighter/attack capabilities along with integrated situation awareness.

Linear actuator | Electric actuator

01:39
Linear actuators are known by several different names including- Electric actuators, linear electric actuators, electric ram, electric lift ram, electric lift cylinders. These pieces of equipment are extremely useful as they can be powered by voltages as low as 12v, but even a 12v linear actuator is capable of generating a couple of hundred kilo’s of force. This video shows a 12v linear actuator connected to a bench power supply unit, when the polarity is reversed the linear actuator moves in the opposite direction. Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/video/ You can see a linear actuator incorporated into a working circuit here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2iGCjkMaug

No Weed More Rice

04:19
Rice Dragon is a weeding tool innovated by women farmers to reduce weeds in the rice paddy. In Cambodia, a majority of small-scale farmers has a total of a hectare of rice paddy or less. Using traditional method they cannot make many yields or benefits to support their family. But if they practice SRI and use Niek Srer (Rice Dragon), they can increase their products twice or even more. Weed management is a key challenge in rice farming in Cambodia. Traditionally, famers largely women have to bend over for days to remove weeds by hand from their fields. This is very exhausting, time-consuming, and ineffective. Seeing a potential increase in yields if the farmers use Niek Srer for cultivation, Oxfam has supported a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the product and get farmers to use it. Many poor farmers are very interested in Niek Srer after many marketing campaign has reached their villages as well as other villages across the country. Some farmers are so happy when Niek Srer is demonstrated in the rice field during the marketing campaign because they can see it makes the soil aerating and weed removing. So far, Niek Srer has been used by more 250 farmers across the country. Many of the users have claimed that if used properly, this tool can increase their yields by up to one tonne per hectare. This means the potential increase in the value of smallholder crops is very high, and this income can improve their livelihood and support the family needs. The only challenge for Niek Srer is farmers are required to change their traditional rice farming habit to cultivate rice using a method called System of Rice Intensification or SRI. NZ Inc Agritech Seminar: Where to next? An overview of top agritech markets

01:06:24
Most New Zealand agritech exporters start in Australia, but value drivers are very different and duplicating your New Zealand sales techniques won’t always work. Ireland, North America and Chile require even more customisation, and what works in one market won’t automatically transfer to others. This seminar is designed for New Zealand agritech businesses to support market selection and entry in Australia, UK, South America and North America. Topics include market size and opportunities, critical success factors, investment, and what does and doesn’t work.  It was held on 14 June at the 2018 New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays, and was one of four seminars organised by NZTE, Callaghan Innovation, Ministry for Primary Industries and the Treasury. Speakers: -John Stubbs, General Manager, Shoof International -Cathy Wansink, Business Development Manager, Australia, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise -Andrew Cooke, Managing Director, Rezare Systems -Daniel Taylor, returning New Zealand Trade Commissioner, UK and Ireland, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise -Peter Van Elzakker, Grazing Product Manager, CRV  -Brendan Mahar, International Market Manager, South America, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise -Stephen Hoffman, International Sales Executive - Animal Management, Gallagher -Paul Vaughan, Regional Manager, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise

Amazing 600hp Nissan SKYLINE GT-R R34 - Passenger POV! Loud Turbo!

01:42
Amazing 600hp Nissan SKYLINE GT-R R34 - Passenger view - Realistic POV! Loud Turbo! More Info and tags: The single-turbo R32 and R33 Nissan Skyline models are some of the most loved Japanese import vehicles - and with good reason. The late 'Lines offer terrific ruggedness, a good measure of straight-line speed and handling that can be, well, entertaining. The RB-series turbomotors are also incredibly responsive to power-up mods, making them a popular choice amongst enthusiasts. In Australia at present, however, you don't find many R34 model Skylines lining the streets - only a few GT-Rs and a sprinkling of single turbo and atmo versions. If our road test 1999 Skyline 25GTt (supplied by Melbourne's Sports and Luxury Cars) is anything to go by, though, we reckon it'll only be a matter of time before they really start to catch on. The R34 is not a huge progression over the R33 - it offers similar performance, feel and practicality - but it does offer a few advantages or, at least, differences..The biggest difference of the R34 is styling - both inside and out. While the '33 interior is decidedly bland, the 34's indoors is a whole lot more interesting. The dashboard is creatively sculpted and has sprouted three central gauges that let you view boost pressure, battery voltage and oil temperature. Bulging below this is the operating area for the digital climate control (note that the R34 uses a rotary temperature control that is a whole lot easier to operate than the up/down buttons found in earlier models). Aside from climate control, the R34 also offers power windows and mirrors, central locking and a reasonable speaker system. The seats offer decent lateral support and are quite comfortable overall, but are lacking a little bit of lumbar supportOur test vehicle was also equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission that showed a definite advantage over previous auto models - tiptronic-style gear selection. Gears can be manually engaged by bumping the gear lever (forward for upchanges, back for downchanges) or via a pair of up/downchange buttons on the steering wheel; the latter beingquite awkward to use and a bit of a gimmick. Visually, the R34 is much more distinctive than the '33 and is widely regarded as the better looker. It does look a little narrow-gutted and awkward from some angles, however - with the standard ride height at least. Starting at the nose, the R34 is relatively upright but scores points for its Xenon low-beam headlights and aggressive front spoiler with side exits (the exits on the passenger's side are to let warmed air escape from behind the air-to-air intercooler that's mounted within the guard). From the front of the car extend side skirts, while Nissan's traditional 'stove top' taillights characterize the rear. As you can see, the R34 also flaunts a rear wing that's quite large for a non GT-R Skyline. Oh, and note that 17-inch rims come as standard on R34 turbos - the ones fitted to this vehicle are aftermarket jobs. The powerplant is the RB25DET as introduced in the R33 GTS25T. In R34 form, however, the engine is upgraded to more environmentally friendly 'NEO' specs. The NEO RB25DET also features a hot-wire airflow meter, 9.0:1 static compression, air-to-air intercooler, ceramic turbine roller-bearing turbocharger, blow-off valve and variable inlet cam timing. With manifold boost pressure of around 60 - 70 kPa (as shown on the factory boost gauge) the R34 25GTt is listed at 206kW at 6400 and 343Nm at 3200 rpm. The R34 25GTt scores its extra power over previous models thanks to a larger turbo (providing a healthier amount of boost), better intercooler, an improved exhaust system and engine management updates. Teamed with the auto trans in our test car, the 25GTt's engine offers typical turbo-like throttle response (dull in other words) and the shooting match sounds a little busy and unrefined at low speeds - the torque converter flares under load and the turbo whizzes and whooshes to get you up to the speed limit. The R34 is not a particularly quiet vehicle. Get it up on boost, however, and the car hauls reasonably well to its 7000 rpm cut-out; our automatic trans test car accelerated from a standing start to 100 km/h in a hand-timed mid-to-high 7-seconds (with two people on board). Note that, despite being more compact than its predecessor, the R34 25GTt auto weighs some 1430kg - around 50kg heavier than the R33!

Say Hello to the Tow Plow: A New Weapon Against Snow Covered Hwys

00:35
http://www.tranbc.ca Say hello to the latest weapon against snow covered highways in B.C., the Tow Plow, a new technology used to maintain our roads. This unit is actually two plows in one; it allows one truck and operator to do the equivalent of two passes, which translates into cleared roads, faster! While the tow plow may look very wide and difficult to handle, it is more responsive than the traditional wing plows; the operator can quickly manoeuvre around obstacles on the road like signs or parked cars. This is fairly new technology, and you can expect to see them on selected B.C. highways this winter. TranBC allocates approximately $356 million each year for highway maintenance with maintenance resources across British Columbia and in every corner. They are busy each and every day maintaining 42,000 km of road and 2,700 structures. For more information on our Highway Maintenance Program go to http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/BCHighways/contracts/maintenance/hwy_maintenance_contracts.htm

DIY: How to Repair Paint Stone Chips

02:58
Video tutorial on how to repair stone chips on a vehicle's paint. These stone chips can be very unappealing, not to mention high risk areas for rust on your vehicle's body. This technique can be used on small chips, large stone chips, scratches, key marks, and even scuffs. It does take a little practice and a steady hand to get this right. This particular tutorial was done on a black car with no metallic. Cars with metallic paint, be sure to mix the paint thoroughly as the metallic maybe more noticeable in some spots if not done correctly. This particular tutorial was done on a 1997 BMW 540i. You'll see marines actually standing on line and walking grounds to make sure everything is free of mines.." (Q: What's your assessment of the risk from remaining al-Qaida and Taliban forces in this general area?) "We do know that there are pockets of resistance, as you will, so we are maintaining our vigilance." 0054 Wide shot military vehicles lined up next to runway 0057 Troops on tarmac talking 0100 More APCs 0103 Troops discussing operation 0106 Close shot gun 0110 Troops de-mining runway 0117 Troops resting 0120 Close shot soldiers sitting next to tanks reading books 0125 Vision Ends STORYLINE U-S marines have taken control of Kandahar airport, a week after the Taliban lost the city to the United Front. A land convoy and helicopters took over the airport, and immediately began clearing it of unexploded ordnance which littered the landing strip. The airport is to become an arrival point for U-S military flights and humanitarian aid that will be desperately needed as the bitter Afghan winter sets in. Before Kandahar fell, there had been fierce fighting at the airport, which went on even after the city was taken. VOICE-OVER: 02 U-S troops guard Kandahar airport, the long battle for the airfield finally over. 07 Their task now is to make the runway here safe. 11 When they arrived here, they found the airfield badly damaged by American bombing raids. 16 The tarmac is littered with explosive devices left behind by the Taliban and their allies. 22 The surrounding area is reported to be heavily mined - and there are also fears that opposition fighters may not be far away. 30 UPSOUND 54 It's taken a week to secure the airport. 57 That's how long it's been since the city it serves was taken from the Taliban. 0102 But when United Front soldiers reached the airstrip soon afterwards, they encountered fierce resistance and withdrew. 0108 Once the U-S marines have completed their work, military flights can start to land here. 0114 Kandahar will also be used to bring in plane loads of humanitarian aid, which will be badly needed when the bitter Afghan winter sets in. 0125 Vision Ends You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/79e06a77040e997eb134f31fdfac87cd Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

Full Show: Justice Not Politics

56:47
Bill invites James Balog, one of the world's premier cinemaphotographers, to his table to explain how "the earth is having a fever." At tremendous risk to his own safety, Balog has been documenting the erosion of glaciers in Switzerland, Greenland, Iceland, and Alaska. He joins Bill to share his photos and discoveries, describing his process and transformation from climate change skeptic to true believer. Balog's soon-to-be-released film, Chasing Ice, is a breathtaking account of climate change in action. Afterward, Bill explores a judicial system under partisan attack. Thirty-eight states now elect their high court judges. Over the last decade, $200 million -- much of it secret and tied to partisan agendas -- has poured into these judicial campaigns. In Florida, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, for example, justices are being targeted by radical groups that abhor judicial independence and want the courts to reflect their own political biases. In Iowa, a state whose judicial system has been praised for its fairness and impartiality, the political and religious Right ousted three justices in 2010 over marriage equality, and is now trying to take down a fourth over the same issue. But this time a bipartisan coalition called Justice Not Politics is fighting back. Its co-founders -- Democrat Sally Pederson and Republican Joy Corning, each of whom served Iowa for eight years as lieutenant governor -- talk with Bill about what's at stake when justices are at the mercy of partisan passions and money in politics.

This World Polio Day, we want to say thank you

03:01
Across the Middle East, countless people have been working tirelessly to stop the polio outbreak that paralysed 28 children in Syria and Iraq in 2013 and 2014. This World Polio Day, we say thank you to all those who have done so much to protect children against this paralysing disease across Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. World Polio Day is an opportunity to reflect on the incredible progress made towards polio eradication in the past year and to pay tribute to those whose efforts made this progress possible. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by national governments and spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)working towards a future where no child will ever again be paralysed by polio. The race against polio | UNICEF

World Polio Day is a day when we celebrate the health workers and volunteers who are going to great lengths to fight polio. Never before in the history of polio have so few children in so few countries contracted the crippling virus – but we cannot rest until the number of cases is zero. More than 1.7 billion doses of polio vaccine were delivered to children last year alone and continued focus is key to the complete eradication of polio. My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: George H. W. Bush Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Prior to assuming the presidency, Bush served as the 43rd Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. A member of the Republican Party, he had previously been a Congressman, Ambassador and Director of Central Intelligence. During his career in public service, he was known simply as George Bush; since 2001, he has often been referred to as "George H. W. Bush", "Bush 41", or "George Bush Senior" in order to distinguish him from his eldest son, George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States. He is the nation's oldest living president and vice president, as well as the longest-lived American president in history. A scion of the Bush family, he was born in Milton, Massachusetts to Prescott Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Bush postponed his university studies, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday, and became the youngest aviator in the U.S. Navy at the time. He served until September 1945, then attended Yale University. Graduating in 1948, he moved his family to West Texas, where he entered the oil business and became a millionaire by the age of 40 in 1964. Soon after founding his own oil company, Bush became involved in politics and won election to the House of Representatives from Texas' 7th district in 1966. In 1971, President Richard Nixon appointed Bush as Ambassador to the United Nations, and in 1973, Bush became the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The following year, President Gerald Ford appointed Bush as the ambassador to China and later reassigned Bush to the position of Director of Central Intelligence. Bush ran for president in 1980 but was defeated in the Republican primary by Ronald Reagan. Reagan chose Bush as his running mate, and Bush became vice president after the Reagan–Bush ticket won the 1980 election. During his eight-year tenure as vice president, Bush headed administration task forces on deregulation and fighting the War on Drugs. In 1988, Bush ran a successful campaign to succeed Reagan as President, defeating Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis. Foreign policy drove the Bush presidency: military operations were conducted in Panama and the Persian Gulf; the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, and the Soviet Union dissolved two years later. Although the agreement was not ratified until after he left office, Bush also signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which created a trade bloc consisting of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Domestically, Bush reneged on a 1988 campaign promise and, after a struggle with Congress, signed an increase in taxes that Congress had passed. In the wake of a weak recovery from an economic recession, along with continuing budget deficits and the diminution of foreign politics as a major issue in a post-Cold War political climate, he lost the 1992 presidential election to Democrat Bill Clinton. Bush left office in 1993. His presidential library was dedicated in 1997, and he has been active—often alongside Bill Clinton—in various humanitarian activities. With George W. Bush's victory in the 2000 presidential election, Bush and his son became the second father–son combination to serve as president, following John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Bush's second son, Jeb Bush, served as the 43rd Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007.

It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The Irish Sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic Sea lies to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers five-eighths of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic, and includes over 100 smaller islands, such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight. The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, a Germanic tribe deriving its name from the Anglia peninsula, who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.England's terrain is chiefly low hills and plains, especially in central and southern England. However, there is upland and mountainous terrain in the north (for example, the Lake District and Pennines) and in the west (for example, Dartmoor and the Shropshire Hills). The capital is London, which has the largest metropolitan area in both the United Kingdom and the European Union. England's population of over 55 million comprises 84% of the population of the United Kingdom, largely concentrated around London, the South East, and conurbations in the Midlands, the North West, the North East, and Yorkshire, which each developed as major industrial regions during the 19th century. The Kingdom of England – which after 1535 included Wales – ceased being a separate sovereign state on 1 May 1707, when the Acts of Union put into effect the terms agreed in the Treaty of Union the previous year, resulting in a political union with the Kingdom of Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain. In 1801, Great Britain was united with the Kingdom of Ireland (through another Act of Union) to become the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1922 the Irish Free State seceded from the United Kingdom, leading to the latter being renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Interrogating these sensors relies on the ability to accurately determine the sub-nanometre movements of the cantilever. Here we investigate a technique based on the combination of integrated silicon photonics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) to create an optically resonant microcavity and demonstrate its use for monitoring of the position of cantilevers on the picometer scale under ambient conditions with dynamic range extending over several microns. The technique is interferometric, and we show it to be sufficiently sensitive to measure both the first and second modes of cantilever Brownian motion. We anticipate that application of this technique will provide a physically robust, picometer precision, integrated cantilever movement read-out technology which can take cantilever sensors from laboratory controlled environments into real world conditions, allowing everyday applications. so this is it. this is just one of 1000s of products anyone that wants to kill my families will pay not only in Australia Spiros papadakis"

Unmanned aerial vehicle

01:46:01
An unmanned aerial vehicle , commonly known as drone, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard. Its flight is controlled either autonomously by onboard computers or by the remote control of a pilot on the ground or in another vehicle. The typical launch and recovery method of an unmanned aircraft is by the function of an automatic system or an external operator on the ground. Historically, UAVs were simple remotely piloted aircraft, but autonomous control is increasingly being employed. This video targeted to blind users. Ukrayina; Ukrainian pronunciation: [ukrɑˈjinɑ]), sometimes called the Ukraine, is a country in Eastern Europe. Excluding Crimea, Ukraine has a population of about 42.5 million, making it the 32nd most populous country in the world. Its capital and largest city is Kiev. Ukrainian is the official language and its alphabet is Cyrillic. The dominant religions in the country are Eastern Orthodoxy and Greek Catholicism. Ukraine is currently in a territorial dispute with Russia over the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. Including Crimea, Ukraine has an area of 603,628 km2 (233,062 sq mi), making it the largest country entirely within Europe and the 46th largest country in the world. The territory of modern Ukraine has been inhabited since 32,000 BC. During the Middle Ages, the area was a key centre of East Slavic culture, with the powerful state of Kievan Rus' forming the basis of Ukrainian identity. Following its fragmentation in the 13th century, the territory was contested, ruled and divided by a variety of powers, including Lithuania, Poland, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Russia. A Cossack republic emerged and prospered during the 17th and 18th centuries, but its territory was eventually split between Poland and the Russian Empire, and finally merged fully into the Russian-dominated Soviet Union in the late 1940s as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1991 Ukraine gained its independence from the Soviet Union in the aftermath of its dissolution at the end of the Cold War. Before its independence, Ukraine was typically referred to in English as "The Ukraine", but most sources have since moved to drop "the" from the name of Ukraine in all uses.Following its independence, Ukraine declared itself a neutral state; it formed a limited military partnership with Russia and other CIS countries while also establishing a partnership with NATO in 1994. A compass is a simple type of magnetometer, one that measures the direction of an ambient magnetic field. The first magnetometer capable of measuring the absolute magnetic intensity was invented by Carl Friedrich Gauss in 1833 and notable developments in the 19th century included the Hall effect, which is still widely used. Magnetometers are widely used for measuring the Earth's magnetic field and in geophysical surveys to detect magnetic anomalies of various types. They are also used in the military to detect submarines. Consequently, some countries, such as the United States, Canada and Australia, classify the more sensitive magnetometers as military technology, and control their distribution. Magnetometers can be used as metal detectors: they can detect only magnetic (ferrous) metals, but can detect such metals at a much larger depth than conventional metal detectors; they are capable of detecting large objects, such as cars, at tens of metres, while a metal detector's range is rarely more than 2 metres. In recent years, magnetometers have been miniaturized to the extent that they can be incorporated in integrated circuits at very low cost and are finding increasing use as miniaturized compasses (MEMS magnetic field sensor).

They constitute the world's largest ethnic group, making up about 18% of the global population. The estimated 1.3 billion Han Chinese are mostly concentrated in mainland China (about 92% of the total population) and in Taiwan (about 95% of the population). Han Chinese also makes up three quarters of the total population of Singapore. The Han Chinese trace a common ancestry to the Huaxia, a name for the initial confederation of agricultural tribes living along the Yellow River. The term Huaxia represents the collective neolithic confederation of agricultural tribes Hua and Xia who settled along the Central Plains around the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River in northern China. The two tribes were the ancestors of the modern Han Chinese that gave birth to Chinese civilisation. In addition, the Huaxia (literally "the civilised Xia people") was distinctively used to represent the Huaxia as a civilised ethnic group in contrast to what was perceived of different ethnic groups as barbaric peoples around them. In many overseas Chinese communities, the term Huaren (華人; Huárén) may be used for people of Chinese ethnicity as distinct from Zhongguoren (中国人) which refers to citizens of China. The term Zhongguoren also includes people of non-Han nationality. Han people (漢人; Hànrén) may also be used for people of Han Chinese descent around the world. The Han Chinese are bound together with a common genetic stock and a shared history inhabiting an ancient ancestral territory spanning more than four thousand years, deeply rooted with many different cultural traditions and customs. The Huaxia tribes in northern China experienced a continuous expansion into southern China over the past two millennia. Huaxia culture spread from its heartland from the Yellow River Basin southward, absorbing various non-Chinese ethnic groups that became sinicised over the centuries at various points in China's history. The Han dynasty is considered to be the one of the first great eras in Chinese history as it made China the major regional power in East Asia and projected much of its influence on its neighbours while rivalling the Roman Empire in population size and geographical reach. The Han dynasty's prestige and prominence influenced many of the ancient Huaxia to begin identifying themselves as "The People of Han". To this day, Han Chinese have since taken their ethnic name from this dynasty, and the Chinese script is referred to as "Han characters".
