BK1856 unit 4 -1.3Ghz Universal Counter

11:52
This is the last of my B&K1856 counters. It is good looking (almost new looking) and functions well in each of its modes. The unit measures from 5Hz to 100Mhz on channel A, 80Mhz to 1.3Ghz on channel B, measures period, totalizes, provides an instrument check feature, has x10 attenuation at the push of a button, 4 ranges and provides numerous indications on its very large 8 digit display. A very nice instrument.

Manuel Castells: Power and counter-power in the digital society

01:58:16
How is power constituted in the digital society? Who is powerful – and how can power be countered and contested? The advent of digitally networked technologies has long been thought to foster democratisation and emancipation, to empower people that have previously been marginalised and neglected. Today, we know that the story is more complex: only a few companies dominate the internet ecosystem, democratic uprisings like the much-cited „Arab Spring“ have faced severe repressions. MAKING SENSE OF THE DIGITAL SOCIETY Manuel Castells | Power and counter-power in the digital society 12 December 2017 | Kino International, Berlin MORE INFO: https://www.hiig.de/en/events/power-counter-power-in-digital-society/ Already with his highly influential trilogy 'The Information Age', Manuel Castells has highlighted the ambiguities of this development. Traditional forms of power might erode, but new, distributed forms of power emerge, Castells argued back then. In this lecture, he will revisit the development of the last 20 years and explain the re-distribution of power and counter-power in the digital society. ABOUT MANUEL CASTELLS Manuel Castells is Professor of Sociology, Open University of Catalonia (UOC), in Barcelona. He is as well University Professor and the Wallis Annenberg Chair Professor of Communication Technology and Society at the Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He has authored 26 books, including the trilogy The Information Age: Economy, Society, and Culture, 1996-2003, published by Blackwell and translated in 23 languages. This trilogy is probably the most-influential piece of academic work addressing the transformation of contemporary society in the context of the Internet. MAKING SENSE OF THE DIGITAL SOCIETY The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) and the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb) are organising an academic lecture series on Making sense of the digital society. The high-profile series thrives to develop a European perspective on the processes of transformation that our societies are currently undergoing. Starting with an inaugural lecture by Manuel Castells on December 12, 2017 the series will continue throughout 2018. Further confirmed speakers are Marion Fourcade, professor of sociology at the UC Berkeley, Christoph Neuberger, professor of communication studies at the LMU München, Elena Esposito, Professor for Sociology at the University of Bielefeld and at the University of Modena-Reggio Emilia, and José van Dijck, author of the forthcoming book 'The Platform Society' and president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Synchronous PolyPhase Boost Converter for Cool and Powerful Applications

05:42
with Goran Perica, Applications Engineering Section Leader, Power Products http://video.linear.com/39?utm_source=3788&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=youtube Boost power conversion is important function in many industrial, automotive and commercial applications. Higher power level customers have to deal with issues of high ripple currents, high power dissipation and higher EMI levels. Linear Technology's LTC3788 (http://www.linear.com/product/LTC3788) breaks new ground in boost converter technology, achieving the highest efficiency with synchronous PolyPhase operation. Two separate synchronous boost channels allow the part to be used in single or dual output applications. The part can be used in PolyPhase applications with 2-, 4- and 6-phases. Also, the LTC3788 circuits can be smaller and less expensive, thanks to low power dissipation in synchronous rectifiers. Overall, LTC3788 can significantly improve the performance of high current, high power, boost circuits.

What is COUNTER-OFFENSIVE? What does COUNTER-OFFENSIVE mean? COUNTER-OFFENSIVE meaning

01:45
What is COUNTER-OFFENSIVE? What does COUNTER-OFFENSIVE mean? COUNTER-OFFENSIVE meaning - COUNTER-OFFENSIVE definition - COUNTER-OFFENSIVE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A counter-offensive is the term used by the military to describe large-scale, usually strategic offensive operations by forces that had successfully halted the enemy's offensive, while occupying defensive positions. The counter-offensive is executed after exhausting the enemy's front line troops and after the enemy reserves had been committed to combat and proven incapable of breaching defences, but before the enemy has had the opportunity to assume new defensive positions. Sometimes the counter-offensive can be of a more limited operational maneuver nature, with more limited objectives rather than those seeking attainment of a strategic goal. A counter-offensive as considered by Clausewitz to be the most efficient means of forcing the attacker to abandon offensive plans. Counter-offensives can be executed not only on land, but also by the naval forces and air forces. Strategic counter-offensives have been recorded by military historians in many wars throughout military history. Although not always known as such, because they are usually described by historians in conjunction with the defensive phase, such as the Battle of Moscow. A counterattack is the tactical and sometimes smaller operational equivalent of the counter-offensive.

CppCon 2015: Travis Gockel “completion T : Improving the future T with monads"

32:21
http://www.Cppcon.org — Presentation Slides, PDFs, Source Code and other presenter materials are available at: https://github.com/cppcon/cppcon2015 — std::future provides us a mechanism for asynchronous communication between a provider and receiver. However, the C++14 standard does not allow for actual asynchronous programming, as the only ways to interact with an std::future are blocking calls. The proposed then helps, but the interface is awkward and can be extremely slow when handling exceptions. Here, I will talk about completion a high-performance, async-only and monadic alternative to std::future and how it is used at SolidFire. — Travis work at SolidFire on a high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed system, where he is responsible for developing tools to make building systems easier and safer. He is a bit of a programming language nerd and is a big fan of where Rust is going (eventually). If you find Travis during the day without coffee or during the night without whiskey, there is a problem. — Videos Filmed & Edited by Bash Films: http://www.BashFilms.com

Bruce H. Lipton on Epigenetics & Why the Traditional View of Genetic and Biological Determinism

01:42:34
you’ll learn all about epigenetics and why the traditional view of genetic and biological determinism is incorrect. The environment plays a big role in genetic behavior, in part due to how we perceive it. The discussion expands to include a look at how our view of evolution changes thanks to these advances. We also get a better understanding of humanity’s progress and what we need to do to reach that next step in societal evolution. -- SUBCRIBE - https://goo.gl/i07UFS Bruce H. Lipton, PhD is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. Stem cell biologist, bestselling author of The Biology of Belief and recipient of the 2009 Goi Peace Award, he has been a guest speaker on hundreds of TV and radio shows, as well as keynote presenter for national and international conferences. Dr. Lipton began his scientific career as a cell biologist. He received his Ph.D. Degree from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville before joining the Department of Anatomy at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine in 1973. Dr. Lipton’s research on muscular dystrophy, studies employing cloned human stem cells, focused upon the molecular mechanisms controlling cell behavior. An experimental tissue transplantation technique developed by Dr. Lipton and colleague Dr. Ed Schultz and published in the journal Science was subsequently employed as a novel form of human genetic engineering. In 1982, Dr. Lipton began examining the principles of quantum physics and how they might be integrated into his understanding of the cell’s information processing systems. He produced breakthrough studies on the cell membrane, which revealed that this outer layer of the cell was an organic homologue of a computer chip, the cell’s equivalent of a brain. His research at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, between 1987 and 1992, revealed that the environment, operating though the membrane, controlled the behavior and physiology of the cell, turning genes on and off. His discoveries, which ran counter to the established scientific view that life is controlled by the genes, presaged one of today’s most important fields of study, the science of epigenetics. Two major scientific publications derived from these studies defined the molecular pathways connecting the mind and body. Many subsequent papers by other researchers have since validated his concepts and ideas. Dr. Lipton’s novel scientific approach transformed his personal life as well. His deepened understanding of cell biology highlighted the mechanisms by which the mind controls bodily functions, and implied the existence of an immortal spirit. He applied this science to his personal biology, and discovered that his physical well-being improved, and the quality and character of his daily life was greatly enhanced. Dr. Lipton has taken his award-winning medical school lectures to the public and is currently a sought after keynote speaker and workshop presenter. He lectures to conventional and complementary medical professionals and lay audiences about leading-edge science and how it dovetails with mind-body medicine and spiritual principles. He has been heartened by anecdotal reports from hundreds of former audience members who have improved their spiritual, physical and mental well being by applying the principles he discusses in his lectures. He is regarded as one of the leading voices of the new biology. Dr Lipton’s work summarizing his findings, entitled, The new updated 10th Anniversary Edition of The Biology of Belief, (Hay House Publishing, softcover, ISBN 978-1-4019-4891-7). His second book, Spontaneous Evolution, Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here. (Hay House Publishing, ISBN 978-1-4019-2580-2) and his third book, The Honeymoon Effect, The Science of Creating Heaven on Earth. (Hay House Publishing, ISBN 978-1-4019-2386-0)

The Congressional Hearings on Meade at Gettysburg in 1864 (Lecture)

01:31:02
General George Meade had to appear before a congressional subcommittee in Washington in the Spring of 1864 to answer several questions seemingly aimed at diminishing his performance at Gettysburg. The several loaded questions leveled at him, and his corps' commanders, who also testified, appear in retrospect to be unfair at best, and a witch hunt at worst. What were the intentions of the Committee on the Conduct of War? Did they simply ask questions that needed to be asked, or did they hope to raise doubts about the administration's ability to prosecute the war? Why burden the memory of a great Union victory with innuendo's that Meade could have done more? Ranger Troy Harman tackles these questions and more in this lecture, featured as a part of Gettysburg National Military Park's 2014 Winter Lecture Series.

THE NEW SCHOOL FOR SOCIAL RESEARCH | http://www.newschool.edu/nssr The Bottom Line on Climate Change: Transitioning to Renewable Energy World's leading climate economists look to the future of energy Willi Semmler, Professor of Economics, The New School for Social Research, speaks at The New School's Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (SCEPA) during The Bottom Line on Climate Change: Transitioning to Renewable Energy, a two-day conference featuring expert analysis of how the transition to renewable energy will affect the fragile U.S. and global economies. The conference is a continuation of SCEPA's 2010 conference The Economics of Climate Change. "Fukushima has heated up the debate on the transition to renewable energy and its economic impact," said Semmler. "Is green energy the answer to global warming, energy independence, and the prevention of Fukushima-like disasters? If so, will the switch kill jobs and raise taxes - or will renewable energy create a green recovery? We're looking to some of the world's leading climate economists to explore these questions." The Bottom Line on Climate Change brings together U.S. & E.U. government officials, geoscientists, policy analysts, politicians, business leaders and academics in New York to discuss how transitioning to renewable energy will affect the fragile U.S. and global economies. This year, panels focused on the future of nuclear power, the reality behind green jobs, the practicality of new technologies, and the tensions between developed and developing countries. Panels also included an Update on Trends in Global Warming Research, Climate Policies, Greeen Energy and Employment, How Fast is the Transition to Green Energy, and Nuclear Energy After Fukushima. Participants include Ottmar Edenhofer of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), James Hansen from the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Peter Schlosser from the Earth Institute at Columbia, Dr. Runge-Metzger from the European Commission, and a member of the German parliament. Trump to Middle East 'Drive out' extremists

01:47
U.S. President Donald Trump called on Arab leaders to do their fair share to "drive out" terrorism from their countries on Sunday in a speech that put the burden on the region to combat militant groups. Trump, who generated controversy with his push to ban many Muslims from entering the United States, described the fight against terrorism as a battle between good and evil rather than a clash of civilizations. "America is prepared to stand with you in pursuit of shared interests and common security. But nations of the Middle East cannot wait for American power to crush this enemy for them," Trump told leaders of 55 Muslim majority countries representing more than a billion people. "The nations of the Middle East will have to decide what kind of future they want for themselves, for their countries and frankly for their families and for their children," he said. "It's a choice between two futures and its a choice America cannot make for you. A better future is only possible if your nations drive out the terrorists and drive out the extremists. "Drive them out! Drive them out of your places of worship. Drive them out of your communities. Drive them out of your holy land and drive them out of this earth," he said. Trump's "America first" philosophy helped him win the 2016 election and has rattled allies who depend on U.S. support for their defence. The president, who is struggling to contain a brewing political scandal at home, made clear in his address that Washington would partner with the Middle East but expected more action in return. "Terrorism has spread across the world. But the path to peace begins right here, on this ancient soil, in this sacred land," he said in Saudi Arabia, the first stop on a nine-day tour that includes Israel, Italy and Belgium. The speech in a gilded hall bedecked with chandeliers is part of an effort to redefine his relationship with the Muslim world after Trump frequently attacked Muslims on the campaign trail last year and tried to ban many from entering the United States. "We are not here to lecture, we are not here to tell other people how to live, what to do, who to be, or how to worship," Trump said. Trump received a warm welcome from Arab leaders, who set aside his campaign rhetoric about Muslims and focused on his desire to crack down on Iran's influence in the region, a commitment they found wanting in Obama. Trump's signature phrase "radical Islamic terrorism" was not included in the speech, according to excerpts released in advance by the White House. Instead, he used the term "extremism", which refers to Islamism as political movement rather than Islam as a religion, a distinction that he had frequently criticized the administration of his predecessor Barack Obama for making. As a candidate, Trump proposed temporarily banning Muslims from entering the United States. In office he ordered temporary bans on people from certain Muslim-majority countries, which have been blocked by courts that ruled they were discriminatory.
