Modern Day Mining - Gold Rush Expeditions - 2017

11:01
In modern day America, the opportunity for mining is greater than it has ever been. There are so many historic mines still out there. Those mines provided more than a living for miners, they provided independence and freedom. Gold Rush Expeditions locates mines across the US. These mines were America's past success, and with a little work, they can be America's future success.

Starbright Mine - California - 2016

03:17
The Starbright Mine is an extremely mineral rich mine is California, with an untraditional layout. Consisting primarily of a large cut into the hillside, the back wall of the mine sports an extremely large exposed quartz vein. Coupled with several random deposits of very heavy black rock, the Starbright mine has the potential to produce a lot of gold and other precious minerals. Additionally, there are a few standing structures on the claim, including a small shack and an ore bin. Overall, a great mining prospect for a hardworking miner.

Mining 101: Ep 12. How Do You Find a Vein?

02:34
Chairman of Exeter Resource Corp. Yale Simpson explains how you find a vein that is worth mining. From wiki: The difference between 19th century and modern mining techniques and the type of ore sought is based on the grade of material being mined and the methods of mining which are used. Historically, hand-mining of gold ores permitted the miners to pick out the lode quartz or reef quartz, allowing the highest-grade portions of the lodes to be worked, without dilution from the unmineralised wall rocks. Modern mining using larger machinery and equipment forces the miners to take low-grade waste rock in with the ore material, resulting in dilution of the grade. However, modern mining and assaying allows the delineation of lower-grade bulk tonnage mineralisation, within which the gold is invisible to the naked eye. In these cases, veining is the subordinate host to mineralisation and may only be an indicator of the presence of metasomatism of the wall-rocks which contains the low-grade mineralisation. For this reason, veins within hydrothermal gold deposits are no longer the exclusive target of mining, and in some cases gold mineralization is restricted entirely to the altered wall rocks within which entirely barren quartz veins are hosted. Alaska Mine Exploring Adventure

16:13
Alaska is a place that I have wanted to visit for a long time. However, given the size of the state and given the time and costs to get there, I had the impression that one would need two to three months to see it properly and to make the trip worth it. I was never able to find a block of time like that and so Alaska always remained a project for the future… You know those people it is impossible not to hate out of jealousy because they have a relative that works for an airline and so they are always getting free flights? Alaska is a place that is great for someone like that who can’t devote a block of 2-3 months to exploring, but instead can break the visits up into a couple of weeks at a time using the free flights. Well, last year my sister started working for Alaska Airlines. So, now I’m one of those assholes with the free flights! Let the hate flow, I understand perfectly… Perhaps needless to say, Alaska is the first place I opted to go. The scenery was pretty incredible in Alaska and I could not have shared a video from Alaska without at least some of the scenery being a part of it as well. It was quite the expedition to get to the mine seen in the video, but, as you’ll see in future videos, this mine was not the only reason we flew out to that area. The need to fly out to mines is not unusual in Alaska. Surprisingly few parts of Alaska are connected by road and so flying is often the only practical way to get somewhere. A town may have roads in it, but the roads will not leave the outskirts of the town and go anywhere else. With such towns, everything has to be brought in on a ship if it is along the coast or flown in. I’ve read that one in five Alaska residents has a pilot’s license and that doesn’t surprise me. It probably would have been cheaper if I had gotten my lapsed pilot’s license up to date and rented the plane myself, but I would have been so busy looking at the views that I probably would have flown into a mountain. Better to let someone that knows the area do the flying anyway… Alaska is famous for its placer mines, but it had – and has – plenty of lode mines, such as the one in this video, too. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference. You can see the gear that I use for mine exploring here: https://bit.ly/2wqcBDD You can click here for my full playlist of abandoned mines: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L Thanks for watching! ***** Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We enjoy doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a century, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. So, yes, in short, we are adit addicts… I hope you’ll join us on these adventures! #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundMineExploring

The Abandoned Noble Mines in Pine Valley, CA

11:01
We spent the day in Pine Valley, CA hiking around the Noble Mine site exploring the various tunnels located on the various claims. I hadn't been back to this mining area in three or four years, but little has changed. Despite some of the 145-year old tunnels having bat gates installed in them, we were able to enter and explore (and document) some of San Diego County's fast-fading gold mining history. In this video, you will see dangerous collapses, a flooded vertical shaft, frogs in a mine tunnel, and our ingenious method of using a long extension pole and an attached mirror to see around corners in mine tunnels that we couldn't access. #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundExploration #NobleMines #PineValley #MountLaguna

Big Stopes & Collapses in the Abandoned Evergreen Mine

10:44
The Evergreen Mine contains several thousand feet of workings, if not more. It is evident from the tailings piles that this mine produce a very large amount of ore. However, limited documentation of the mine's history makes it difficult to report any sure-fire information on this mine. In the video you will see two large air tanks, ore chutes, big stopes, dynamite storage, ore cart rails and more! One adit that I entered was extremely dangerous. If you come across this site, please stay out! Abandoned mines are extremely dangerous, Mines of the West does not recommend entering abandoned mines. This video is for entertainment purposes only. Stay out stay alive!

Desert Gold Mines: Exploring the Ten-Mile Tunnel

05:27
The Ten-Mile Tunnel is an abandoned Arizona gold mine dating back to the late 1800s. Deep in the mine, I found an inclined shaft going both downward and upward. Later research on this particular mine revealed that this inclined shaft is approximately 1100 feet long. That warrants a return visit with more people so we can descend the inclined shaft to the lower levels and see what's down there. We've only just cracked the surface on this particular mine! Stay tuned! #ExploringAbandonedMines #AbandonedMines #MineExploring #UndergroundExploration

Some of the best Gold in a creek can actually be some of the easiest to get to...you just need to know where to look. I would rather fill up 1 bucket with good amounts of Gold then 20 with poor amounts. It's all about economy for effort. Exploring One Of The Biggest Abandoned Mines In Nevada: Part 3

16:45
After following the drift we ended the last video with to its surprising conclusion, we started moving back toward the main hub of this enormous abandoned mine. Along the way, we explored many of the side passages and raises that were bypassed on the route in through the main haulage adit located in this part of the mine. Following the very long hike up and out of the mine, we set up our camp for the night (we spent all day underground in this mine) and then headed above the mine to see some of its more interesting features above ground. You’ll see that we explore some of the mine buildings, including one that has an amazing collection inside of it. Although I was curious about what was inside of the modern mine buildings we discovered, I also had a specific destination in mind. One of my exploring buddies – Adit Addicts – had spotted what appeared to be a steam shovel abandoned above the modern mine we explored in this video. I wanted to see this machine to confirm what it was and also to film it if it really did turn out to be a steam shovel. As with the mine itself, it was quite a hike up into the hills above it. Fortunately, I was able to find the machine (although the GPS took me on a terrible route to do so) and it was indeed a steam shovel. Sort of... It was a steam shovel at one time, but had actually been converted over to run on an internal combustion motor. I had never seen anything like that before and it was pretty amazing to see one out in the desert mountains still next to the pile of dirt it had been excavating decades ago. The modern abandoned mine featured in this video is definitely not the first mine in this area and when looking around above the mine, it was fairly common to see old collapsed adits and old surface mining work. Many of these seemed to be more exploratory in nature though. This area has historically been a large producer of ores containing lead, copper and silver and a thriving town was once supported by the mines. However, today, there is almost no trace left of the ghost town or an aerial tramway that also used to be here. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! 434-San Jacinto Mtn, Gold Mine In The Sky....Somewhere!

14:36
In April, 1769, the San Antonio sailed into the splendid harbor of San Diego. The ship had been sent out from Mexico and had a few friars on board, a detachment of soldiers and a handful of colonists. Father Junipero Serra, was on board who founded Missions from San Diego to Monterey. The domination of the Missions, of which there were twenty-one, lasted till 1822, when Mexico declared her independence from Spain. But during all this time almost nothing was known about the matchless and beautiful mountain country of California that we now hold so dear, until the discovery of gold. Once hearing of the great strike, by sea and land they flocked in untold numbers to the new El Dorado, a legendary place in South America where the streets were said to be paved with gold, and wealth and riches were to be had in abundance. They came from all parts of the civilized world to California to seek for gold. The way was difficult and the majority knew little of gold mining when they arrived. Most of the people who rushed off to California in 1849 and later, went to get a start in the world. Money was difficult to obtain in the East. Everybody wanted to make a big strike and get rich all at once. What actually happened was that a great many steady and honest men became comfortably well off from the gold they dug. Millionaires, however, were scarce. Others who came in '49 stayed on for decades and lived just as poor as they were on the day they arrived. Beginning in 1848, brave men from all over the world came to seek their fortune in California. The good, the bad, the rich strikes and the failures of men who tamed the west by the work of their hands. The history of California, may be told in a few words. The event which changed the history of California was the discovery of gold by James Marshall, in January of 1848, that find opened California to forge a new era for the western US.............................. Exploring A Large Limestone Mine - Part 2

15:27
In this next section of the abandoned limestone mine that we explored, we dropped down to the level below the one where we started exploring. The level shown in this video was the primary haulage adit for this section of the mine (meaning that all of the other levels of the mine dropped ore and waste rock down - or hauled ore and waste rock up - to this level to haul out). The reason for this is that this level of the mine is at “ground level” at the base of the cliff and it was, therefore, easy for trucks to drive into the adit to recover ore from the ore chutes and to remove waste rock. The upper levels had ore carts and track as it was, obviously, not practical to move large trucks up the cliffs – much easier to just drop all of the limestone down to the haulage adit. I was surprised to still be able to see the tire tracks from the trucks inside of the haulage adit after more than fifty years, but the ground was very hard and not muddy. So, it was almost as if the tracks were frozen there and I suspect they will still be there another fifty years from now. Some viewers have expressed surprise in the past over the presence of vehicles run by combustion engines inside of the mines (such as LHDs or trucks), but it is important to remember that the mines are very well ventilated and undoubtedly there was a blower outside of the mine blasting a steady stream of fresh air into the mine to prevent the dust and exhaust gases from becoming a problem for the miners. As was mentioned in the first video in this series, there are many levels at this section of the mine, but the others are accessible only by rope and are filled with waist-deep mud. Since we didn’t have waders or technical climbing gear with us that day, we opted to bypass those levels. Almost certainly, there was nothing much that we missed out on. Any artifacts would be hidden beneath the mud and the adits would look very similar to the first adit we ventured into. Also, as you’ll see in the next video, this series of levels is only one section of the mine. There are adits punching into this limestone cliff all over the place – at least a dozen or possibly even more. Many of them have eroded shut or are inaccessible without technical climbing gear (as described above). However, by hiking along the base of the cliff, we were able to locate an absolutely enormous adit – again at “ground level.” This was a new section of the limestone mine for Alessio too and that will comprise the third video in this series. Interestingly, not long ago, Alessio sent me a message indicating that he had returned to this abandoned mine with some other Italians and they had discovered even more levels at this site that we had not discovered before! So, this mountain of limestone was really turned into Swiss cheese (Emmental cheese for those of you outside the United States) by the Italian miners. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference… You can click here for the full playlist of abandoned mines: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L Thanks for watching! These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We have fun doing it!

Eleven people were trapped underground following a coal mine cave-in in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Wednesday. The collapse occurred in a pit of Liujiamao Coal Mine at Shenmu County of Yulin City, at around 9 a.m. Wednesday. At the time of the accident, 49 miners were working underground and 38 of them succeeded in fleeing for life. The rescue work is hampered by the high density of poisonous gas underground and rescuers are mainly restoring the ventilation system.

Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed Part 2

04:42
This video is part 2 of "Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed". In this video, I process the dirt which I scraped up from a small 2 metre squared area of a dry creek bed ( gutter ) shown in the first video. Although the results we're not as good as I had hoped, they were still good. I ended up with around 5 grams of gold including a nice nugget...so around $250 (AUD) for half a days work was a good day indeed. Imagine what a few full days on a couple of hundred metres of that little creek ( washout gutter ) would produce...now that's payable ground. Happy prospecting. Aussie. Secret creek: My new gold spot!

02:31
On a total whim I travelled to a local creek on the way home from another prospecting spot. This was never meant to be a video but it was too good not to film. This is a creek I have wanted to pan for so long and have always passed it up, today I'm glad I made the stop! In 6 pans I pulled 0.25g! Every pan had 15-20 specs of gold, some just sitting on the surface! So the plan you ask? Ima sluice it ASAP!

Garrett ATX: Australian Sub-Gram Gold Nuggets.

08:13
In this short demonstration video, we check the response of the Garrett ATX on tiny gold nuggets in highly mineralized Australian ironstone clay/gravel which is typically encountered in our goldfields. The advantage that the ATX provides to Aussie prospectors over current PI machines is the ability to detect very low conductive, sub-gram nuggets with a DD coil. Most prospectors will be utilizing monoloop coils for their sensitivity on small gold, the penalty is that in hot and variable ground, the monoloop will experience unstable and variable thresholds to the point where it may become unusable. With the ATX stock DD, you now get stable operation in very hot ground on sub-gram gold. All this with a single setting (no complex switch settings) and the option of two modes of operation: Motion, and Non-Motion. Experienced prospectors will know that a test bed cannot fully replicate actual field conditions, such as varying mineralization, soil moisture content, soil air voids, ambient noise, ambient temperature, threshold settings, coil swing technique and the fact that the gold has been in the ground for many millions of years -- but this test bed demonstration will serve to illustrate the usefulness of the ATX with the standard DD coil in adverse environments. The ATX is no re-badged Infinium or Recon-pro, it is new technology that provides a real advantage on small gold in hot ground. This comes with no sacrifice to the ability to detect large nuggets at depth. We hope you enjoy this short demonstration and find it informative. More ATX goldfields videos to follow soon! Happy Prospecting! Warren and Colleen. www.nqexplorers.com

Exploring the Abandoned Oro Amigo Mine

11:14
The Oro Amigo Mine is a multi-level mine in the desert of southern Nevada. It features large stopes, flooded areas, vertical and inclined shafts, and twisting tunnels. The lowest level that I explored had obviously been flooded in the past with six inches of water. I discovered a rather ingenious method the miners used to keep the flooded tunnel dry -- a three-inch diameter pipe sticking about six inches out of the tunnel floor. I dropped a rock down this pipe and discovered it led to a faraway sump that was full of water. I also discovered two winzes leading down to even lower levels than the one I was on. The upper tunnel at the Oro Amigo Mine was not as extensive horizontally as the lower tunnel was; however, it had a large stope in it descending downward from the tunnel floor many, many feet. #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundExploration #Goodsprings #OroAmigoMine
