The following video features various news and talent opens from KENS-TV, San Antonio's CBS affiliate, from c. 1979 to present.
As many of the older opens imply, KENS historically was the market's top-rated news station, especially when it was locally owned by Harte-Hanks Communications (who later exited mass media to focus on its direct marketing business). However, under Belo (who bought the station from Harte-Hanks in 1998) and subseuqently Tegna ownership, the station has slipped down to a still strong and competitive second. KENS has used the "Eyewitness News" brand since circa 1970, with a 1998 modification to include the station's branding "KENS 5" (always pronounced as a word).
