Top 10 Countries With The LARGEST Gold Reserves!

Check out these 10 countries with the largest gold reserves in the world! This top 10 list features some of the richest and wealthiest countries on earth that have tons of gold bars stacked up somewhere! India According to the World Gold Council, the Bank of India currently holds 557.7 tons of gold. It is one of the largest stores of gold in the world! This makes up 9.9 % of the country’s total foreign reserve. Foreign exchange reserves is money or other assets held by a nation’s central bank so they can back the national currency. India, home to 1.25 billion people, is the number one largest consumer of the precious metal. Furthermore, India is one of the most reliable drivers of global demand. For example, India’s festival and wedding season, which runs from October to December, has historically been a major market for gold. And probably, one of the most interesting facts about India and gold is that India rarely invests much in gold. This is because as a country, India operates under the belief that buying gold leads to a deficit. And their belief must be proving right as things also seem to be improving for India. For instance, if you look at the last few years, India has increased its gold reserves from 557.74 to 557.77. While this might not seem like a lot, India is also at its highest point in history! In addition to what the country holds, Indian households which are considered the world’s largest hoarders of gold, hold a record 23,000-24,000 tons, which is worth about $800 billion. 9.) Netherlands In the past few years, the Netherlands has held 52% of its foreign reserve in gold. The Netherlands has a reported 612.45 tons. In 2016 it was reported that the bank was looking for a place to store all its gold because they were going to renovate the vaults and needed to moving it. The Dutch central bank is planning to move the country’s gold reserves from the center of Amsterdam to a new complex called the Cash Center. Like most countries, Dutch gold is also held in banks around the world to reduce risk. Security measures to guard the gold 24/7 have become a problem in Amsterdam. 189,000 kilos of gold will be moved at the beginning of 2022. Maybe this is one reason that over the last decade and a half, the Netherlands was selling off tons of gold in order to reduce its reserve. However, there weren’t that many buyers out there and they sold less than the country wanted. More recently the country has had less ambition to sell gold. Currently, the country holds the same amount of tons, 612.45 that they have over the last few years. However, the country has increased its percentage of foreign reserves to 61.2 %. 8.) Japan Japan is another country which had been increasing its gold reserves since the 1960’s. Their official gold holdings were reported at 765.2 tons. About 2.4% of Japan’s gold today is in foreign reserve. Historically, Japan has always held a bit more gold than other countries. This was true until 2011, when they began to sell some of their reserve in order to pump money into the economy after the tsunami and the following Fukushima nuclear disaster. But even with selling, Japan’s central bank has been one of the most aggressive practitioners of quantitative easing. For example, in January of 2016, it lowered interest rates below zero, which has helped fuel demand in gold around the world. 7.) Switzerland Prior to 1997, Switzerland was steadily building its gold reserves. In 1997, the decision was made to sell some of those reserves to bolster the Swiss currency and diversify the foreign reserves. The percent of foreign reserves in Switzerland is currently 6.7 %. Switzerland actually has the world’s largest reserves of gold per capita and currently has reported 1,040 tons. Over time, many citizens in the country started to feel like the bank was getting rid of too much gold. They then banded together with the “Save the Swiss” movement. However, once everyone was able to vote in 2014, the vote came to a no, and gold continued to be sold. During World War II, Switzerland became the center of the gold trade in Europe, making transactions with both the Allies and Axis powers. Today, much of its gold trading is done with Hong Kong and China. Around last year, the Swiss National Bank made a $5.9 billion profit, reportedly from its gold holdings. The Kensington Mine: Happy To See A Collapse?

16:56
This large, ambitious adit was driven more than 6,000 feet into the hills you saw in the introduction to the video in search of rich silver ore. Those hills, by the way, are absolutely covered in Nevada mining history from the 1800s. Foundations, collapsed adits and shafts, gated shafts, small open adits, crumbling stone buildings, can dumps… There are essentially limitless exploration possibilities here for those interested in history and ghost towns. I have not been able to verify this information, but I have read that the adit we explored in this video was started in the 1870s and that a tram ran down the mountain to the mill seen in the introduction. The most striking moment in exploring this abandoned mine for us was when we reached the collapsed section of the adit and first heard the roaring sound described in the video. It was a huge volume of water! From our perspective inside of the adit, it sounded like the Niagara Falls was cascading down behind the, apparently, thin caved section between us and the torrent of water. As I explained in the video, we know that there were several crosscuts driven from this adit underneath other mines. Some of these crosscuts had raises pushed up to connect with the lower workings of these other mines. As such, the adit we explored is now acting as a massive drain tunnel for multiple mines. So, it is no wonder that we heard so much water roaring down back there! I have never heard of a situation like this before involving multiple mines and have certainly never heard this volume of water in a mine before. I would be very curious to see how it looks behind the caved section and to learn where all of this water flows. Anyone want to volunteer to find a way in? Oh, and here is the link to the YouTube channel for Mines of the West: https://www.youtube.com/user/GramVideos95 ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that niche of our history is gone forever. But, guess what? We have fun doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a hundred years, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. Golden Gamble. Gold mining in the Philippines, a dirty business

25:41
More films about the Philippines: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/philippines/ - The use of child labour in the Philippine’s Paracale, or ‘Goldtown’, is widespread - Extracting gold involves diving into mud-filled shafts and using toxic mercury - Poverty and lack of alternative jobs force people into this highly dangerous work - Many die young due to work accidents or breathing problems, others develop chronic illness The Philippines’ town of Paracale was dubbed “Goldtown” for its rich deposits of the precious metal. Despite government attempts to regulate mining, illegal pits are still commonplace. They lack even the most basic health and safety and workers are exposed to toxic mercury fumes. Dirty water causes skin diseases and they live with the constant threat of being buried alive. Workers continue to take these risks day after day, because there is no other source of income. Many of the gold miners are children whose families can’t afford to send them to school. Some gold is panned on the surface, but a lot has to be extracted from underground. To do that, prospectors dive into narrow, mud-filled shafts, uses snorkelling masks and long tubes too breathe. If the mine collapses, they have no chance of escape. They have a saying here, ‘while you’re down the mine, you have one foot in the grave’. Several miners have already died that way, others from respiratory diseases caused by inhaling mercury fumes. The toxic metal is used in gold extraction with no safety precautions, so it poisons the air, the ground and the water, causing long-term harm to the whole community. Another danger to the inhabitants of Paracale comes from disused mines, abandoned and left open, waiting for unsuspecting victims to fall in. The business takes its toll on workers, their families and the community. They have been known to demonstrate, demanding safer working conditions, better pay and other job opportunities, but change is slow. Meanwhile, extreme poverty among people who produce one of the world’s most precious metals leaves them no option but to continue with this pitiless occupation. After a long-ish chat to 'Shortman' about how we often find new prospectors digging like hell just off the sweet spot, I thought it would be cool to show the new comers amongst us 3 of my favourite spots to dig for gold in a new creek. If you are a bit stumped on where to find gold, this video is for you. It shows 3 places gold commonly accumulates and why it ends up there. This is not a comprehensive list, there are many spots you could find the elusive 'yella" but these are good spots to start. In future videos I will cover many more spots that gold likes to hide!

After more than a decade of illegal mining, the country is facing an environmental disaster. "First the miners burn down the rainforest. Then they dig a giant crater, hosing away the muddy earth and polluting rivers and forests." There are over a thousand illegal mines like this in French Guyana. They’'re steadily destroying the rainforest’'s ecosystem. "“They will never be able to stop it because the jungle is so big and we are so tenacious”," states one miner. Most of this illegal gold is mixed together with gold from other sources and ends up abroad. "“There needs to be much greater political impetus behind regulating this very destructive trade”," states MEP Caroline Lucas. Underground Forest Of Timbers In Abandoned Mine – Part 1

19:29
This abandoned copper mine is one we wanted to visit because we have seen explorers visit the main adit (including Adit Addicts, my exploring buddy for the day), but had never seen that anyone had documented the numerous upper adits of this particular mine. The main section of the mine is quite impressive and it is certainly understandable why explorers focus on it (I cover the ground level as well so that you can have a sense of it too in case this is your first time seeing this mine). In the interest of completeness though, we wanted to cover all that there was to see here. Also, the overlooked abandoned mines or even the overlooked sections of abandoned mines often yield the best historical treasures. I’ll discuss the guts of this mine in more detail when I get to the main section in the next video, but, as I mentioned above, this was a copper mine and, from what we could tell, all of the production took place around the turn of the last century (the 1900s). Apparently, the mine was only active for several years, but they certainly made the most of that time. Although I just explore the ground level in the main section of the mine (in the next video), I will link to other explorers that have visited all of the levels in the main mine so that you can see what it looks like. Teamwork between mine explorers will get all of these old mines explored and documented! Buca Della Vena Mine – Part 2: Discovered Underground Mine Train!

21:47
Sure, we’ve come across ore carts and trammers before while exploring at abandoned mines. However, finding an intact underground mine train parked with the ore carts still hooked up to the trammer (what miners call the electric locomotive) is something that I have never seen before or since. I’ll give away some of the secrets of the upcoming videos by saying that there is a second part to this train just a short distance farther down the track. I wonder if the operator of the trammer/locomotive felt a twinge of sadness when it was parked underground for the last time? I mentioned in the description and comments of the last video that I would talk more about the history and geology of the abandoned mine in this description. The below is a translation from Italian to English and the translation is not perfect. However, it conveys the relevant information. So, quoting directly, here you go.. “The Buca della Vena Mine (formerly Stazzema Mine) was part of the 15th-16th century Vene Ferralis, although it is believed that works were held there already during the Medicean period. Work restarted between 1850 and 1860, and in 1938 the Pignone of Florence company began excavating. Since 1957, the SIMA company (subsidiary of EDEM) continued to work regularly in the tunnel searching mixed mineral barite-pyrite until 1990. The field is described as a mineral body almost unique with barite, pyrite and iron oxides of good quality. It is oriented NNE/SSW, in the contact zone between shale Unit Fornovolasco, white dolomite and grezzoni. Considerable scientific interest was aroused by the discovery of rare or unique in the world mineralogical species. Minerals mainly extracted are: - barite used for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petroleum industry and as nuclear power plants insulation - pyrite for chemicals and iron and steel - iron oxides for steel products” Although the mine being explored in this video apparently dates back to the Medicean period, I passed ancient workings while pushing up the canyon walls that date back to the Romans and even the Etruscans. In other words, the iron ore deposits here have not exactly been a secret for thousands of years. The section of the Buca della Vena Mine featured in this video hosted very dark rock and huge open chambers. So, even with multiple lights, it was a struggle to fully illuminate it. While there are certainly some even more impressive pillars and massive chambers to come, the rock is lighter and so that should not be much of an issue going forward. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference. Historic South Pass City and Carissa Mine – A Wyoming Ghost Town – near Lander, Wyoming

12:48
Historic South Pass City and Carissa Mine – A Wyoming Ghost Town – near Lander, Wyoming. South Pass City sprang up when gold was discovered in the area in 1866. Up to three thousand people called this town home in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, approximately 35 miles south of Lander. Unfortunately, major gold deposits were never found and by the mid 1870’s the town dwindled to just 100 people. Over the next century the town declined further until the last pioneer family moved in 1949. The town fell into disrepair until the end of the 20th century when efforts were taken to renew the community. The Carissa Mine was the primary economic engine for South Pass City. In 1928 new money helped build a modern mill and support buildings but the precious metals were exhausted in a couple of decades. The gold mine and mill closed permanently in 1949. Historic Peggy Gold Dredge - Madison River Valley, Montana MT

08:39
"The Peggy", a historic gold dredge, still survives in the harsh Montana environment. We were fortunate to have met a representative of the land owner who granted us access to bring you this unusually intact relic of Montana mining history. In 1938 the Gold Creek Mining Company installed an electrically powered, connected-bucket dredge on Washington Bar. The dredge, called The Peggy, operated each season from August, 1938 to November, 1942. During the five years of operation a total of 9,182 fine ounces of gold was recovered (Winchell 1914; Lyden 1948). This sequence was captured with a Canon Vixia HFS-100 video camera and a GoPro Hero3 Black on a DJI Phantom quad copter (drone). It was edited with Adobe Premier Pro 6. Pioneer City - A Montana Ghost Town - Near Gold Creek, Montana MT

07:48
In the 1870's, Pioneer Mining District had about one thousand people living in the area. Pioneer City was the main town and service center. It had a post office, four breweries, six saloons, four general stores and two hotels. By the late 1870's, gold worth over 333 billion (in today's dollars) was extracted from the area. When placer operations were no longer profitable, three dredges were used to dig down to bedrock. The town was moved and rebuilt to accommodate the destruction of the Mosier dredge. Most of the buildings in the new Pioneer City were ultimately destroyed by the dredge anyway. The buildings that survived the dredge couldn't survive dynamite and a bulldozer that was used to expand a cattle pasture. What remains today are the ruins of a few miners cabins. A poem from a bartender published in the "Missoula and Cedar Creek Pioneer" on April 27, 1871: Take pity, Miss Fanny The Belle of Pioneer And grant some indulgence To a vendor of beer Whose heart rending anguish Will bring on decline Oh, God of creation, I wish you was mine. We'd live in a parlor Behind the saloon With sour-krout in plenty For our honeymoons; We'd have schnapps by the bottle To make it go down And live in more splendor Than any in town. There is Fowler and Fischer And Wallace of yore There's cows and there's chickens And many things more But none like your Perry That sells lager beer His tender heart is breaking Each day in Pioneer. So now my dear Fanny If you will incline To join me in wedlock Just drop me a line And great expectations With me you will share Not to mention the sour-krout And oceans of beer. Detecting Aluvial Gold?

08:20
I have a theory, that you can use a detector to locate either small gold pickers, lead such as bullets or mineralised ground in alluvial streams. These things indicate often larger deposits of gold and if correct could help sniff out nice little hidden pockets of gold. But as always with experiments it needs work. I need more experience with the Makro Gold Racer and I need to test this theory more to confirm or deny its feasibility. At any rate it did lead us to some nice gold so its a promising start!

I Found GOLD Under Waterfall!

08:49
Here is that video of myself doing what you all wanted to see - to find gold under that Gold bearing Waterfall! I love this place because its secluded, beautiful, NOT a claim, and of course; FULL OF GOLD! The reason why this video is so short is because the underwater Go-pro camera I was using was shutting off without me noticing (probably from the cold water). I did however manage to put together a neat little video with the footage that was usable, and a bit of the gold that was found with it! I wish this gold bearing waterfall adventure was much longer but sometimes you just have to use what ya got! Behind the scenes? This one - also known as the Evans, Lewis & Company - has been worked off and on for a while – the most recent work I am aware of was in the 1980s. However, the mine is much older than that as I have seen records pertaining to the Evans Mine that date back to 1864.

Historic Mosier Gold Dredge Ruins - Gold Creek, Montana MT

03:06
A few miles south of the town of Gold Creek in western Montana, near the ghost town of Pioneer City and Wall City, are the ruins of The Mosier, an old gold dredge. The Pioneer Placer Dredge Company, Inc. used this sturdy "California-type" electric chain-bucket dredge. The dredge was in operation from 1933 until the operation was stopped by Federal order at the advent of World War II in 1939. The four story Mosier was shipped in by rail on 46 box cars and took two years to assemble. Historic pictures of The Mosier during construction and operation can be viewed on-line from the "archives and special collections, digital collections" at The University of Montana Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library. Three dredges worked in Gold Creek; the Stewart (too small for the task), the Mosier, and a third dredge that is still intact (see video link below). Your comments about these dredges would be appreciated. Homeschool Homestead: The Hong Kong Commentary

19:07
We've been a homeschool homestead for 12 years now and I guess it was inevitable that we eventually spill our guts about it. The world doesn't need more kids that know the exact same facts from the exact same textbooks. We need kids with curiosity, passion, work ethic, kindness and a variety of life experiences. Friends from Hong Kong filmed with us last spring and made a cool short documentary. They really focused on the homeschool aspect of our off grid homestead. The film is part of a mini-series airing on Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and you can watch the original here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLzc25U-JzE&feature=youtu.be Of course it's in Cantonese so we had to dub in the english. I'm pretty sure we captured the intent although.... on a few occasions we did use a little imagination. Check out Yeah Man's facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/yeahmanhk If you're thinking about homeschool on the homestead, or in the city.... You can do it.

Memos reveal EPA worked with environmental groups to kill Alaska gold mine project

01:54
The Environmental Protection Agency came under fire Thursday after new emails surfaced that allegedly show government officials worked in secret with tribal leaders and other environmental groups to preemptively oppose the controversial Pebble Mine project in Alaska before a review was even conducted. The internal memos published by The Washington Times show EPA officials working behind the scenes as early as 2008 to kill the gold and copper mine project -- two years before any scientific study or survey was conducted looking into the environmental impact. "As you know I feel that both of these projects (Chuitna and Pebble) merit consideration of a 404C veto," EPA official Phillip North wrote, according to the emails. North, according to the Times, pushed to have the mine's veto added to the agenda of a 2009 agency retreat. But the EPA announced in 2011there would be a neutral and scientific review of the mining project. At the time, they said that concerns raised by environmental groups and local tribes would be investigated, but that no decision had been made. "Alaska is a long way from Washington, D.C.," Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla., told Fox News. "There is no reason for Washington, D.C., to run affairs in Alaska." Lankford says the EPA pre-judged the case and didn't wait for a full scientific review. "They are to be neutral in this, and they are definitely not neutral in this," he said. In a statement Thursday, the EPA said the emails in question were "authored by a low level staffer stationed in Alaska who had no decision making authority for the Agency. "Additionally, the focus should be on what the agency has actually done which is taking a deliberative approach based on the science. In fact, the agency leadership had not made a decision on whether to proceed to 404(c) action until the scientific analysis was complete," the EPA said.

Memories of Red: Gold Mining in Romania's Rosia Montana

03:07
Learn more: http://pulitzercenter.org/projects/romania-hungary-mining-toxic-waste-rosia-montana-gold Pulitzer Center grantees Dimiter Kenarov and Nadia Shira Cohen traveled to the Rosia Montana region of Romania, where plans are underway to open the biggest open-pit gold and silver mine in Europe. One of the oldest mining sites in the world, Rosia Montana village offers archeologists and historians valuable insights into its 2,000-year mining tradition. Should the mining plans be approved, the surrounding mountains and nearby valley will be transformed into four gigantic mining pits and a dam holding cyanide-laced tailings, which could lead to a bigger environmental liability than the toxic sludge in Hungary in case of design failure. The mining debate has polarized Rosia Montana that no compromise seems possible in the near future. Dimiter Kenarov and Nadia Shira Cohen wade through the hidden toxic waste in European Union's newer member states, where EU's high environmental standards are still very difficult to enforce. This report is part of Pulitzer Center-sponsored project "Toxic Europe" (http://bit.ly/zHMUdw).
