Model Railway Layout “Hawthorn Dene Colliery” in N scale by Les Richardson
This N gauge model railway layout represents the North Eastern Region’s Durham Coast mainline, somewhere around Easington in the late steam period. The British railway modeller Les Richardson, member of the Bingham Model Railway Club, has built this layout. The old Hawthorn Dene Colliery no longer winds coal, but it is still in use, mainly preparing household coal for merchants and for the nearby landsale yard. Colliery locomotives bring empties from the exchange sidings to the south for weighing and taking on to the screens, while full wagons are removed from the screens, weighed and taken to the exchange sidings. Buildings are typical of the area, though not modelled in the right places realative to each other. The layout is digitally controlled, using NCE Power Cabs. The semaphore Signal is by Dapol.

Running Coal Trains On My N-Scale Layout
I don’t have any coal mines or power plants on my layout. So how do I justify the movement of my coal trains? In this video, I tell you how.
We CUT out the Coal Mine! Layout update 5
Time to get down and dirty and cut up some scenery! Here, we relocate the King City Coal Mine...or at least give it a spin. We also remove a tunnel along with part of the main line track in order to reroute the main line. This will help us remove a lot of hidden track that is difficult to access and clean. Sometimes you have to tear things out to make them better!
Building the Coal Mine - Part 1
I have recently started work on the coal mine. We redesigned the track plan so coal trains can be loaded all at once. Im excited about this scene and look forward to making progress on it. Thanks for watching!

Animated Coal Tipple- N Scale
A coal tipple is where a coal mine interfaces with a railroad. In non CEO speak, it's where the coal is dumped into hoppers. This is my attempt so far at making a working model for my N scale (1:160) model railroad. I clearly need to work up a bit more enthusiasm for my narrations.

Model Railroad Building Walthers New River Mining Company, Weathering and more
This is a video showing the build of the Walthers New River Mining Company. In this video I cover the complete build with unboxing to detailing. The Walthers New River Mine was a really fun build and I would recommend it for any modeler railroad or not, just fun to do. I use other things in this build including walkways, add an additional door and several other detail items that help this building really pop out and look great. Tichy Open Grate Platforms, Walthers Fire Escape and Walthers Roof Details all add so much to the realism on this model. Scratch building some awnings to kicked it up a notch I think! Looking for some realistic duct work, I have in mind what I would like, may have to scratch this I guess, but, if you have any idea's or suggestions on manufactured duct work, please comment ok! A Great Model Railroad Club Layout, Old Boise N Scale MR
Our second layout this month is the large Old Boise N Scale Model Layout. The layout showcases a variety of industries in its Pacific Northwest locale. An exact era is not specified, as club members have the freedom to run a variety of equipment of different years and various railroads. This means you will see a number of different railroads in action. The layout includes logging, a paper mill, concrete facilities, agriculture, an intermodal facility, a steel plant, and a coal mine. You can visit this club in person if you are in downtown Boise. The feature has an article, photos, and video and includes a map of the layout. Thank you for viewing my Youtube channel. Please subscribe and a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video. Thanks again, Ross Trackside Model Railroading

St Lukes Model Train Show 2018 Part 2 Hornby Thomas End Of The Line
Part 2 of the St Lukes Model Train Exhibition 2018. This train show is attached to a church so there's always lots of hand of God shots to assist the trains. I was using a very small Sony camera I normally wouldn't use! Somehow it's done an amazing job in what is very tricky lighting conditions. This years train show was held in May to get away from the heat of Summer. In part 2 we will look at these model railway displays. JB Mining (John Bell) Beautiful HOe scale layout based on disused coal mine and rock crushing plant. The unusual scale taps into the 9mm N scale size track that can squeeze a lot of railway action into a small area. Defty (St Lukes Club Layout Rob Evans) Hornby Live Steam trains were playing up and the A4 Mallard is retired. Out comes the Flying Scotsman to save the day. Hornby Live Steam is a very specialized style of model railway. Difficult to run and rarely seen at train shows. Bears Ears (Steve Thomson) A HOn30 scale layout set in the American desert. Like JB Mining this layout uses a small gauge track incorporated with a HO scale locomotive. Often narrow gauge railways are represented like this. Age Continplated (St Lukes Club Layout) A beautiful historic Hornby Meccano Dublo train set that's not showing its age. The magic of this layout is the lack of plastic and sounds it makes as the trains do the circuit. I also look on eBay to see what's on offer with Hornby Dublo. If your very careful there is some great buys if your attempting to build up this style of model railway. Legeauxland 2018 (Richie Dulin) This layout is a complex LEGO amusement part that is interactive with the audience. Push a button to see the various park rides move. I revisit Legeauxland at a LEGO expo to see how Richie has incorporated the LEGO 3 In 1 Roller Coaster set into his display. Very awesome work. Thomas & Friends U Drive (St Lukes Club Layout) This 4 track U Drive layout features the Hornby Thomas & Friends trains. Thomas, Duck, and Toby fight it out and cause railway havoc. Children will spend hours racing one train against another or carefully drive their trains to the station to pick up passengers. I also investigate the end of the Hornby Thomas trains and look at the prices on eBay related to Thomas & Friends trains and train sets. Cheapaschips Junction (Chris Fraser) Really nice On30 scale switching / shunting / plank layout that demonstrates that everyday items can add details to great miniature effect. This layout is DCC controlled and the trains had sound chips. The layout was built up quickly from odds and ends. Best part was Chris was inviting children to us the DCC train controller to shunt the trains and switch the tracks. Camera chat about the Sony RX100 Mk4 that shot part 1 and 2 of the 2018 St Lukes train show. The camera was set on auto. Considering the difficult lighting conditions and often small subject matter this tiny compact digital camera did an amazing job. The problems I have had with this camera is related to hot days. The camera will shut down on a hot day when shooting video. Best aspect to the camera is how you can plug in a USB charging power pack to keep the camera shooting all day long. It's not my usual camera but it's proved to me it's not bad at shooting train shows. HO Gauge Appalachian Mountain Coal Mine Layout Part 1
Just a quick video of my layout in progress. It's a Norfolk Southern "Horsehead" railroad, to be set around a modern day Appalachian Mountain coal mine. I haven't quite figured out the season yet, but most likely mid to late summer for simplicity. This is my first model railroad layout. It's currently running DC, but will be converted to DCC as work progresses. It's a small 4x8 layout utilizing 18" radius curves for the mainline and 15" curves for the mining line, as well as a yard/staging area to add more than just continuous running.. To make the most of my limited layout size, I chose to go with raising the mining line to cross over the mainline to maximize track and to add a bit of depth to it to keep it from getting boring after a few operating sessions, as well as to add a bit more scenery, utilizing mountains, a plateau, a lake/pond, a gorge, and a river. To follow the build in a bit more detail, check out my thread on Model Railroad Forums @ http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19185 Thanks for watching. Model Railroad Layout about the Coal and Steel Industry of Germany in HO scale
In Germany, the Ruhr region is well known for its coal and steel industry. This model railroad layout is a detailed replica of that landscape in HO scale. It is a very large model railway layout with more than 100 trains. Famous buildings, large industrial plants and cities are presented in this miniature world.

Cab ride along one of the largest model train layouts about Germany’s coal and steel industry
In 2008 this superb model railway layout was opened in the city of Oberhausen, located directly in the heart of Germany’s coal and steel industry, the so-called Ruhr area. Then, this permanent model railway exhibition represented cities, landscapes, steelworks, coal mines and the rail transport in the 1970‘s. The model railroad layout was constructed in HO scale or H0 gauge and covered an area of more than 420 square meters. Due to financial problems, this model railroad exhibit was closed two years after the opening. Fortunately in September 2012, this large model railway layout was sold to a new owner, who re-installed the whole layout and made it accessible to visitors again. Today, this fine layout is a part of the railway museum, called „Modellbahnwelt Odenwald“, located near Frankfurt/Main, Germany. The miniature world was built according to original track plans, stations and landscapes, for example, the Oberhausen central station, the port of Dortmund, the blast furnace plant of Oberhausen, colliery and coking plants. On the layout, there are many replicas of well-known buildings in the Ruhr area. Furthermore, a special highlight is the photorealistic background system of the model landscape. The model railroad was designed as a two-wire digital system, which is used by model trains of Fleischmann, Roco and from many other manufacturers, except Märklin. Locomotives, light effects and trains are managed by the digital model railway control system „TrainController“. Enjoy Pilentum’s train journey of at least 80 minutes on a several kilometers long track system.

HO Gauge Appalachian Mountain Coal Mine Layout Part 3
My appoligies in advance for the crudity of this video. I don't have a good video editing program that can piece together .AVI movies (Movie Maker tends to only recognize them as sound files). Also, my camcorder doesn't like indoor lighting too well. Anyway, on to the updates. First (and most importantly) I've gotten a lot of bugs worked out of the trackwork (my first layout, and I'm making quite a few mistakes that I'm having to go back and fix). I still need to build up my collection of quality rolling stock (the 4 hoppers in the yard are having some derailment issues, and the juice cars belong to the club. I damaged them during transport from the county fair and need to fix them) to add a bit more interest than short trains. Secondly, I've added one of the mountains, giving the mainline train a chance to "hide" for a brief period of time. It's not finished, but it's a start. I'll be doing final formations of the mountain once the second mountain is in place. Lastly, the mainline has been ballasted. I'll still have to go back and touch up a few spots, but it's mostly done. I've also added a Dash 9 to the locos I've got.
