The Oregon Ponderosa Mine by GIA
http://gia.edu/gem-encyclopedia The Oregon Ponderosa Mine by GIA. In this video, John Woodmark discusses the Oregon ponderosa sunstone mine. He reviews how sunstone gems goes from manufacturing to the market. Oregon sunstone, the official state gemstone since 1987, is natural copper-bearing labradorite feldspar. Some examples exhibit red to green dichroism, and fine specimens larger than five carats can sell for more than $1,000 per carat. The road to the Ponderosa mine gains in elevation as the scenery gradually changes from meadows to thick stands of tall ponderosa pines. Plush Oregon sunstones are found in the plush Oregon area. They’re rapidly gaining attention as natural and untreated products of the United States, due to their unique optical and physical properties. A Rare Spectacular Red Type of Botryoidal Druzy (Sparkling) Quartz Rock, Stone
One of my many spectaculat druzy (chrysolite?!) quartz rocks, this one is a beautiful rex. I'd like to rent out my rocks as museum or gallery pieces at malls, restaurants or mineral museums but this and a literal to or more are packed away in my small storage unit and it would be a huge, long, dirty, dusty painful task sorting through such a huge amount of rocks, and at the moment only have a poor phone and poor lighting to document them anyways to inspire anyone to sponsor me to make good videos of them or to rent them from me. I'm even in danger of losing my storage unit. Please consider donating to my crowd funding projects shown here at the bottom of my profile: https://www.fundme.com/en/users/116993 Uploaded June 3rd, 2012

Labradorite palm stone
A Labradorite is a precious gemstone with a Feldspar substance and is also called Spectrolite. Depending on the size of the stone, its colour is usually from off-white to black, or a glowing blue to natural green. Those shades of lighter blue or green are widely used for creating precious jewelleries. Labradorite derived its name from the Labrador Peninsula, which is an original source of Canadian variety of feldspar stone. It is a hard crystalline mineral that is reputed for its capability to display a wide variety of colours when light strikes it. It produces reflections of blue, green, yellow, violet, red and orange. The effect is known as “labradorescence”. It is believed to have a mystical and medicinal power. This gemstone is also found in Australia, Finland, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Newfoundland, Norway, Russia and the United States. You can use Labradorite for your beads, designs and carvings. It is absolutely stunning if you want to make art work pieces, bracelets and anklets. This is also widely used for ornamental and engraving containers. The Origin of Labradorite The natives of Labrador have used this precious gemstone for many centuries. The natives used Labradorite for decoration. It was believed that the “Mighty Being” pounded on the Labradorite to make him travel up to the sky. This then made the inhabitants call it “firestone” or “fire rock”. Another legend claims that the northern lights were trapped in the rocks along the coasts of Labrador. A drifting Eskimo warrior found these rocks and freed the lights with his spear. Many of these lights are still trapped within the stone today, which is why these are known the beautiful gemstone Labradorite. The native inhabitants also used the gemstone for medicinal purposes. It was believed to increase energy, and reduce stress and anxiety. Furthermore, the stone was said to protect its wearer from danger, and to communicate with supernatural forces. It was also used to detoxify the body and aid in anti-aging. The Moravian missionaries gave the gemstone its name. They were working for the Eskimo Inuit, one of the natives of Labrador. They brought the precious stone to Europe, where it was prominently used as jewellery in England and France. This was formed into necklaces, wristbands, bracelets, broaches and pins. In Finland, the trade name of Labradorite is Spectrolite. This was discovered during World War II in 1940. A group of Finns that were quarrying stones on the eastern border made traps to prevent attacks from Russian armoured tanks. As a result, they found these gemstones in some regions where they had blown up. Labradorite Associations - The gemstone is associated with crystals such as snow quartz and rainbow moonstone. - It is associated with the candle colour burgundy. - The Chakra is solar plexus and brow chakras. - Its element is ice. - It is also associated with plants and flowers such as snowdrop, gardenia, and blackthorn blossom. - It is also associated with herbal incenses such as basil, lemon, hyssop and tea tree. - It is associated with Planet Pluto, Uranus and the moon. - And the zodiac signs are Sagittarius, Leo and Scorpio. Labradorite has a completely different variation. This can turn out an intense experience, especially when it opens up the subconscious mind to bubble up with ideas. It may generate unexpected solutions that are usually surprising. These may be pleasant or not, which really depends on the spiritual preparation of an individual.

Rhodonite (About the Stone)
This video from The Potomac Bead Company discusses the stone Rhodonite. What is Rhodonite? Rhodonite is a naturally pink stone with black matrixes running through it known as 'dendrites.' The stone originates in Mexico, Colorado (USA), Brazil, and Peru, and is composed of maganese silicate. This makes the stone harder than some similar pink stones like Rhodochrosite. Some believe the stone can alleviate worry and heal the throat. Enjoy using this beautiful stone in your jewelry and beading designs! In the depth and intensity of its brilliant, azure blue tone we find the reflection of our soul's desires, our mind's true power, and our heart's deepest yearning. Azurite is for the intensely psychic -- the ones who peer through the veil into mysteries unknown. It is a stone for the deep delvers of spiritual truth. It is the perfect complement for mystics and psychics, making it easier to tune into and communicate lessons and messages from beyond. But on a more pragmatic level, Azurite is for the studious intellectual and seekers of knowledge. Azurite provides a clear lens for the mind to analyze, and a deep reservoir for the storage of information. Azurite is connected to the Third Eye Chakra, Throat Chakra and Heart Chakra. Azurite can help with communication issues, as well as being understood and understanding others more clearly. Use Azurite to stimulate the mind, awaken psychic powers and strengthen intuitive abilities. The healing power within Azurite is amplified when coupled with sound. Meditative sounds such as Gregorian chants, choral music and drums will have their soothing power intensified while Azurite is nearby. For those who are keen to divinatory pursuits, such as Tarot readers and psychic mediums, keep Azurite close by. It can help open up the channels needed to access divinatory information, as well as make it easier to communicate the information you have gathered. Azurite can be of assistance when delving deep into the subconscious and trying to discern past lives. It helps the mind remove the trappings of ego and dispel the illusory world to see what's hidden and things beyond. Did you know? Azurite is also known as Chessylite, named for the Chessy-Les-Mines near Lyon, France. Azurite was originally named for the Persian word lazhward which means "blue." It shares this in common with Lapis Lazuli, "lazuli" also coming from this root. #Azurite #CrystalMeanings #EluneBlue Azurite Meaning | Azurite Meaning and Uses | Azurite Spiritual Meaning | Azurite Stone Meaning | Azurite Uses | Crystal Meanings | Crystals for Communication | Crystals for Heart Chakra | Crystals for Intellect | Crystals for Intuition | Crystals for Mental Clarity | Crystals for Psychic Ability | Crystals for Public Speaking | Crystals for Third Eye Chakra | Crystals for Throat Chakra | Crystals for Wisdom | Elune Blue |

The serenity of its turquoise blue color discharges negative energies, calms, and allows truth and inner wisdom to surface and be heard. Is chrysocolla the same as turquoise? Chrysocolla can be found in copper deposits all around the world. The most notable Chrysocolla sources include Israel, the Congo (Zaire), Chile, England, Kolwezi, Katanga(Shaba), Mexico, Peru, Russia, and the USA (Arizona, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Michigan and Pennsylvania). I am happiest when I have stone in my hands. I am driven to seek it out, touch it, explore it, carve it. I believe that stone is as essential to our lives as water and air. Stone teaches patience, to think before acting or speaking. Its hardness slows me down, grounds me. Birds represent every human emotion from absolute revulsion to utter awe. I enjoy freeing them from blocks of stone. As a medium, the beauty of each stone compels the viewer to look closer. The emotion of the form leads to self exploration which I believe to be the purpose of art. When my sculpture elicits a spontaneous reaction, I know I have used my life well. General information about the sculpture. I have used different types of stone; Alabaster, Brazilian soapstone, African Kisii stone, and Quebec Serpentine. The soapstone has a hardness of one on the Mohs scale and damages easily. Alabaster dissolves in water and therefore fine detail is impossible to wet sand. I prefer to use Kisii stone and serpentine. The Kisii stone has a hardness of only two but it's fine grain takes detail very well. Serpentine has a hardness of three/four and cannot be scratched by fingernails like soapstone can. I also like how this stone has a fleshy appearance. The finer the grain of the serpentine the harder it is and the better it is for fine detail. I hope to try marble next. It has a hardness of four/five. Diamond has a hardness of ten. I buy the stone from Bedrock Supply in Edmonton. It comes in cut blocks or irregular chunks. I choose the stone for its colour and shape when I have a piece in mind but for birds I buy random shapes and let the stone tell me what it is. Sometimes a chunk of stone shows me the whole sculpture at once or I might only see a neck or beak to start with and the rest of the piece reveals itself as I work. There are times when I can't let the bird out of the stone fast enough. The equipment that I use consists of an air compressor with a 90 gallon tank and a seven horsepower motor, air chisel, die grinder, dremel, coarse and fine files, wood carving knives, saws, and sand paper. I sand the stone with 80grit then 100grit dry sand paper then use 220, 320, 400, and 600grit wet paper. When all scratches are gone, I wax the piece (Kisii stone), oil it with tung oil and then wax it (Brazilian soapstone and serpentine). It is hard to say how long a piece takes. Some pieces are inspired and only take a very short time and others I have to labour over. Sometimes I think about a piece for a year before I start to carve the stone and sometimes I get stuck on a problem half way through and have to leave it until I figure it out. So to answer the question, it can take me anywhere from one day to two months to a year. It all depends on the size and hardness of the stone, the depth of detail and the artistic inspiration. I have been sculpting since 1987, full time since 1997. I was given a piece of Jade jewelry when I was little and I remember thinking, this is what I want to do when I grow up. Jade is very hard and I would need different (costly) equipment than I have now but it's on the wish/goal list.

Unique Mexican Vascular Opal Gemstone from KGC
Gem: Vascular Opal Weight: 7.28 cts. Size: 17.54 x 11.93 mm. Color: Orange, Yellow and White Clarity: I Cut: Pear Locality: Northern Mexico Treatment: None Here is something new and fantastic! This is Vascular Opal! This material was found this year in northern Mexico. The name is derived from the red/orange vein formations that look like blood vessels in the yellow body of the Opal. This Opal is harder than traditional Mexican Opal, it cuts and polishes more like an Agate than and Opal. This material also fluoresces bright green under short wave UV! This stone will make a one of a kind pendant that will be fascinating! I have never seen an Opal quite like this before. It is such an exciting new material and is from a small mining production. This excellent new Opal is completely natural and untreated! Enjoy! Elestial Quartz- Lets Talk Stones
For more information on crystals and how to use them, please visit our online classroom, featuring on demand classes at prices you can afford! http://crystaliscious.com/chrystaliscious-portal/on-demand-classes-available.html Elestial Quartz carries the vibration of "the answer mode." Our attention is a lot like a radio, with many frequencies vying for airtime. The signal we are looking for seems to jump out and shout for attention when working with this stone. This places us in a receptive frame of mind, helping us to "get a bead" on all those elusive manifestations. Elestial Quartz can carry us to new heights in communication, especially with ourselves. Practicing with this stone, we begin to know our own mind in new and exiting ways. What was once unmapped territory and untapped potential burst forth with this stone; it becomes easy to get a visceral sense of how one thought leads to the next. Upon further examination, we see how our thoughts can lead us into a pleasant and rewarding experience. We also discover on new level how life seems to lack luster when we allow ourselves to think inadvertently. Seeing how advantageous it is to consciously steer your thoughts gives us the positive reinforcement it takes to make lasting changes in how effective our thinking processes allow us to be. Elestial Quartz can also be used to generate a map of your own behaviors. This is a natural outgrowth of your consciously driven perspective. You begin to see where you trip yourself up in self-sabotaging patterns. Then you stop doing that, and choose something better. Your potential becomes unlimited, the way you were always told it was. This is one of the quickest ways to improve your quality of life. Elestial quartz helps you synthesize all the disparate elements in a situation or idea into one cohesive whole. In the creation of artistic work, this means allowing the process to unfold little by little. Trusting that process doesn't have to be on blind faith. The wave of creativity is something you can follow, as a notion, a feeling, or a sensation. You begin to move forward with more confidence in your total capability. Elestial quartz is an ideal stone to keep in your workspace. It's vibration enhances the cohesiveness of your work team or project group. For more solitary work, an elestial quartz on your desk can help you maintain the focus that it takes to smoothly navigate lengthy creative projects. Along the way, you will benefit from the innovative ideas that spontaneously arise in your mind. Even more beneficial is the opportunity to witness ideas being born within your mind. This glimpse is for ones who have learned to cast aside all doubt. The way elestial quartz assists with this feat is through it's pragmatic emphasis. Your doubts may be valid, but do they help your or hurt you? That's one question you begin to ask yourself. When you realize that the best perspective is the one that allows you to accomplish your goals, the obstacles in the way of that become irrelevant. Then doubts become irrelevant as well; at this point, you can allow your true potential to shine through. Your focus is on what you want it on, no matter what the setting. You are on your way to great things.

Navajo 7 Stone Emerald Valley Turquoise Bracelet by Guy Haskie (#21)
The designation "Emerald Valley" turquoise does not really determine an exact geographic location or mine. Instead, turquoise originating from central Nevada which is of a lime to forest green color with exceptional hardness and unusual character is often labeled Emerald Valley, whatever the origin. Guy Hoskie has taken a gorgeous suite of Emerald Valley and placed it upon a classic cuff in the Navajo style of silversmith. These natural stones are unusual in color and character and are extremely hard. What beautiful work. http://www.twinrocks.com/products/8915-southwest-jewelry-baskets-navajo-jewelry-native-american-art-jewelry-pottery-weaving-rug-blanket-manta-necklace-turquoise-twin-rocks-trading-post-zuni-santo-domingo-fetish-hopi.html

Heating Calcite causes cleavage: By Mr. Hulsmann
As always, and despite being warned not to, a student licks the halite to see if it really is salty....another student asked if it could be cleaned...I quickly guessed that heat could do that, and hadn't yet considered the heating would be uneven thermal expansion and contraction which would leave to the mineral cleaving, cubically as it should.
