Hey guys! I attended a HBCU, which is a Historically Black College or University. During my years there the Greek Organizations were heavily influential on the yard. We watched their step shows and cheered for the newbies....Ahhhh, those were the days. Although I AM NOT and have NEVER been affiliated with a Sorority or Fraternity, I thought it would be a nice gesture to do some inspired looks using the organizations colors. I know February has come and gone but, all my history doesn't fit in one month :o) Thank you for Watching! Alpha Phi Alpha is the first Black, inter-collegiate Greek-lettered fraternity. It was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Its founders are known as the "Seven Jewels". It employs an icon from Ancient Egypt, the Great Sphinx of Giza, as its symbol. Its aims are "manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind," and its motto is First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All. Its archives are preserved at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. Chapters were chartered at Howard University and Virginia Union University in 1907. The fraternity has over 290,000 members and has been open to men of all races since 1940. Currently, there are more than 730 active chapters in the Americas, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The Founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown, wanted to organize a Greek letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service. The Founders deeply wished to create an organization that viewed itself as "a part of" the general community rather than "apart from" the general community. They believed that each potential member should be judged by his own merits, rather than his family background or affluence...without regard to race, nationality, skin tone or texture of hair. They desired for their fraternity to exist as part of an even greater brotherhood which would be devoted to the "inclusive we" rather than the "exclusive we".

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is being sued by former member Priyanka Banks, who starred in the VH1 reality series Sorority Sisters. I remember when this show first premiered, I knew it would be a problem. And it was. Members of the Black Greek Letter Organizations represented on the show called on advertisers to pull out from the show, which showed the ladies arguing, fussing, and fighting (as VH1 always does.) So the show was dumped after just a few episodes. But not only was the show dumped, the members of DST who participated in the show were also expelled from the sorority. This is one woman's story. Continuing my series on AKA and the Idolatry of Sorority Membership. I'm going go into Greek life and culture and why you as a Christian should take these things into consideration before you yoke yourself to an organization which has members which do such things. I will discuss Churchianity, False Christianity and Ecumenicism and how it is encouraged in AKA. I have done videos on Churchianity and false Christianity before, but I saw this demonstrated time and time again with members of AKA who were on the outside very spiritual, called on the name of Jesus, and knew every Christian cliché in the book, but many were full of nothing but dead men's bones and spiritually dead. Many of US went to parties, were fornicating and participated in ungodly lifestyles and acts, and called people brother or sister who were in false religions and were christian hypocrites, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. You cannot be LUKEWARM! You must be either hot or cold, God is going to spit you lukewarm Christians out of his mouth if you continue to live in sin while professing his Name, REGARDLESS of your organizational affiliation. Blogs on Churchianity I have written: http://setfreefromtheic.wordpress.com/tag/churchianity/ Press release for 2010 St Louis Boule Ecumenical services http://www.aka1908.com/pdf/2010_boule_female_theologians_4_27_10.pdf The goal here is not to condemn members of AKA or any sorority or fraternity, it is just to use my testimony to maybe help someone see what I now see about my membership. I know that these orgs have many people who join for many reasons. I don't know why you joined if you did, or if you allowed yourself to be hazed, or hazed people like I did, I can only speak for me, but in the same turn I know I speak for many. Since its founding on December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supplied voice and vision to the struggle of African-Americans and people of color around the world. Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of Brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The visionary founders, known as the "Jewels" of the Fraternity, are Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. The Fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice, both educationally and socially, at Cornell. The Jewel founders and early leaders of the Fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha's principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. Alpha Phi Alpha chapters were established at other colleges and universities, many of them historically black institutions, soon after the founding at Cornell. The first Alumni Chapter was established in 1911. While continuing to stress academic excellence among its members, Alpha also recognized the need to help correct the educational, economic, political, and social injustices faced by African-Americans. Alpha Phi Alpha has long stood at the forefront of the African-American community's fight for civil rights through leaders such as: W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and many others. True to its form as the "first of firsts," Alpha Phi Alpha has been interracial since 1945.

From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Ruth Ezell traces the history of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. APA was founded in December of 1904 by black students at Cornell University. Within a few years the African-American based fraternity spread to other ivy-league schools across the country as well as other colleges and universities, such as Howard University, Lincoln University, etc.

The Poem “If” was written by Rudyard Kipling in 1895. The song “Mr. Bojangles” was written by Jerry Jeff Walker in 1968. This video combines the two in a manner of inspiration as they have become endearing to many in the black communities particularly many HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges & Universities). Both works of art depict stories of adversity, hope and despair. Mr. Bojangles in the black communities became popular when performed by Sammy Davis Jr. This is a Mr Bojangles instrumental version. However, Walker originally wrote the song about a white tap dancer down on his luck in a New Orleans jail cell. He identified himself as “Mr. Bojangles” which was a nickname for Bill Robinson, an early and successful black tap dancer. The Poem If has become popular as many historically Black students, fraternities & sororities have learned to recite it. Many of the Divine Nine: Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Kappa Alpha Psi, Iota Phi Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Theta and Sigma Gamma Rho. The Poem suggests many attributes and qualities essential to the character of man. This video, inspired by the events in Charlottesville VA along with Heather Heyer, depicts many of the atrocities, history and challenges particular to the African-American male he had to overcome and many of the hurdles we still face. Many of us are descendants of slaves, men who were stolen and sold, shipped across oceans, brought America, enslaved, separated from their wives and children. This happened to millions of families over hundreds of years yet we question the current day plight of these men and why there is still struggle. Is it not obvious? Yet the spirit of this video shows the resiliency, determination and perseverance of the true measure of a man! No, you are not just the son of man… you come from Kings & Queens! Ultimately, race is a fiction. It is a man-made concept created by one particularly race to claim superiority in a delusional effort at world dominance. We are ALL made in the image and likeness of a Divine Spirit! We man be sons of men but we are also Suns of God! WE ARE ONE! PLEASE SHARE TO THOSE WHO NEED… 1 S.O.U.L. is an acronym for “One Source Of Universal Love” parent company for Concept YOUtopia, Kings & Queens Inc and OMtrepreneurs! "Many rivers...
