This video provides an overview of the stereochemistry of organic compounds and defines what exactly a chiral carbon center is. This video also shows you how to assign R and S configuration to a chirality center whenever the hydrogen (4th group) atom is in the front, back, or neither. It also discusses nomenclature - how to name organic compounds using R and S absolute configuration. It provides a lot of examples and practice problems. Finally, this video discusses how to classify a pair of molecules or compounds as diastereomers, enantiomers, meso compounds, constitutional isomers, same compound, or different compounds, or even cis trans geometric isomers.

This short primer shows you how to assign the absolute configuration of a stereocentre/ stereogenic centre as (R) or (S). There are three steps in the process: work out the priority of the four groups, orient the molecule so the lowest priority group is away from you, then 'read' the three groups pointing towards you from highest to second highest to third highest priority. If this sequence takes you in a clockwise direction, you have the (R) stereoisomer; anticlockwise and it's the (S) stereoisomer. We also briefly look at distinguishing (E) and (Z) alkenes.

It shows you how to identify the chirality centers or carbon atoms with 4 different groups as well as determining the number of stereoisomers using the formula 2^n where n is the number of stereocenters or asymmetric carbon atoms. This video also helps you to identify a pair of meso compounds which are identical to each other and a possess an internal plane of symmetry. It also discusses how to find a pair of enantiomers which are non-superimposable mirror images of each other such as your left hand and your right hand. Enantiomers lack an internal plane of symmetry. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems.
