How to play STRIMKO

02:23
If the music doesn't work try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWpdp58NOo0&fmt=6 Strimko is a logic puzzle with numbers, just like Suduko. It is based on Latin squares described by Leonhard Euler in the 18th century. The rules are simple: each row and column of an n x n grid must contain the numbers 1, 2, ..., n exactly once (just like in Sudoku ), and each "stream" (connected path in the grid) must also contain the numbers 1, 2, ..., n exactly once. Strimko is created and developed by The Grabarchuk Family. It's basically a generalization of Sudoku as Sudoku can be thought of as having 9 streams. You can play the addicting game at their website: http://www.strimko.com

The ATBASH cipher actually got it's start in Hebrew text - notably in Jewish Mysticism, as it's used in translations of their religious books. The name itself is is actually an acronym of four Hebrew letters: Aleph-Tav-Beth-Shin (אתבש). The way the Atbash Cipher works is by mirroring the alphabet. By writing A to Z on a piece of paper and Z to A just below it, you've crafted an Atbash Cipher! This means that if you decode one letter B=Y, you've decoded the reverse as well Y=B. Due to the low difficulty of this encryption method, it's not often used in situations where data must remain secure - but it does make a great way to casually encode messages between friends! http://wp.me/a4aWg3-8H

Cryptarithmatic Problems Artificial Intelligence | Solved Example | (Eng-hindi) | #9

11:39
Cryptarithmetic is a type of mathematical game consisting of a mathematical equation among unknown numbers, whose digits are represented by letters. The goal is to identify the value of each letter. In this video we learn tips and tricks to solve these verbal arithmetic problems. Cryptarithmetic is the science and art of creating and solving cryptarithms. A cryptarithm is a genre of mathematical puzzle in which the digits are replaced by letters of the alphabet or other symbols. The invention of Cryptarithmetic has been ascribed to ancient China. This art was originally known as letter arithmetic or verbal arithmetic. In India, during the Middle Ages, were developed the arithmetical restorations or "skeletons" a type of cryptarithms in which most or all of the digits have been replaced by asterisks. The word cryptarithmetic ("cryptarithmie" in French) was introduced by M. Vatriquant, writing under the pseudonym Minos, in the May 1931 issue of Sphinx, a Belgian magazine of recreational mathematics published in French from 1931 to 1939. A type of alphametic addition puzzle termed "doubly-true" was introduced in 1945 by Alan Wayne. It is made up of "number words" that, when read, also form a valid sum. Wordplay Solves the June 26, 2017 Times of London Cryptic Crossword

58:44
As part of the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter novels, cryptic crossword setter Brian Greer made two puzzles for June 26, 2017: a cryptic for The Times of London and his debut American-style crossword in The New York Times. This was the first time that a single setter made a similarly themed crossword for two different papers that ran on the same day. Wordplay columnist and Harry Potter fan Deb Amlen invited The Times of London to do a "puzzle swap": The crosswords editor at The Times live-solved the American puzzle and Deb, Brian and New York Times Crosswords editor Will Shortz solved the cryptic crossword that ran in The Times.

Recreational Literature. Can you identify these 72 quotes http://highhopes.com Mad Countess Quote Puzzles present quotations below the faces of Say it again Sam and Don Quotee. One attempts to identify the person responsible for the quote or at least something associated with it. When the card is turned 180 degrees, these faces turn into the new faces of The Mad Countess and Speak no Evil, and they give information about the quotes. Feel free to watch all of these on YouTube and share them with others or in classes. (You may want to tape a strip on the upper part of the screen to cover the upside down answers!) Examples can be taken from pages at http://highhopes.com/1aqnumberpuzzleexample.html for sharing or press releases. Solve Geocaching Puzzles with Chris Hache - Substitution Cipher - Alphabet

09:30
In this lesson we will look at a substitution cipher that uses one alphabet to substitute for another. You first need to understand where to find the alphabet that you need to decipher. Then, you need to figure what alphabet you are trying to decipher. Remember, any alphabet is just a series of agreed-upon drawings, so this would work for other existing languages or even made-up ones. Google is your friend – make sure to check for your alphabet using “images” to quickly see which “drawings” will match. Try a few letters – see if it makes sense. If it does, keep going! If it doesn’t, try to see why it doesn’t (maybe it’s a puzzle within a puzzle…) Additional information and tools (please let me know of any broken links): i. Wikipedia page about substitution ciphers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substitution_cipher ii. A site that has many cipher examples - http://luthorien.altervista.org/Tools/ iii. Information about the Runes alphabet - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runes iv. Elder Futhark Font - http://www.dafont.com/elder-futhark.font
