Sebastian Junger: "Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging" | Talks at Google

01:04:48
Sebastian Junger visits Google to go into detail of combining history, psychology, and anthropology from his book, TRIBE. It explores what we can learn from tribal societies about loyalty, belonging, and the eternal human quest for meaning. It explains the irony that-for many veterans as well as civilians-war feels better than peace, adversity can turn out to be a blessing, and disasters are sometimes remembered more fondly than weddings or tropical vacations. TRIBE explains why we are stronger when we come together, and how that can be achieved even in today's divided world. Get the book here: https://goo.gl/ET6HBH Moderated by Jordan Thibodeau.

Poison vs. venom: What's the difference? - Rose Eveleth

While both of these animals are capable of doing some serious damage to the human body, they deliver their dangerous toxins in different ways. Rose Eveleth sheds light on the distinction between poison and venom (and why you shouldn't treat either one like you've seen in the movies). Lesson by Rose Eveleth, animation by TED-Ed.

**Award-Winning** Horror Short Film | Snake Bite | Omeleto

Four boys find their friendship tested when one is bitten by a deadly snake. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to Snake Bite is used with permission from Tim Hyten. Learn more at http://omele.to/2ycY126 and http://omele.to/2kG8obK. Filmmaker Tim Hyten tells the story of four boys, who find their friendship tested when one is bitten by a snake. Dylan and Tyler see a snake and wonder if it's poisonous. Cole tells them it's harmless. As they try to catch it, Xavier jumps out and kills it with a machete. He tells them they need to find some real snakes. Dylan is upset and starts to bury it. Suddenly, a red-and-black snake appears and bites him. The boys are frantic. Dylan and Tyler describe the snake to Cole and he looks it up. If the tail is black, Dylan is fine. But if it's red, it's the Black Widowmaker and the venom will kill him in less than 10 minutes. Xavier tries to slow down the venom with a tourniquet. Then, Tyler tries to suck the venom from the leg. Dylan tries to stay calm. There's no time to go back to camp and tell the adults. Xavier has an idea and grabs the machete. Tyler and Cole tell him to stop, but Xavier insists there's no better option. Dylan starts screaming -- he refuses to chop off his leg. Xavier reasons if they do nothing, Dylan will die. Cole lists a bunch of reasons Dylan could survive, but Xavier insists it's unlikely. They leave the decision to Dylan -- they can either take him back to camp and there's a good choice he'll die, or they can chop off his leg. Dylan tells them to chop it off. They tells them it's a good choice. Xavier grabs the machete and Tyler tells him a little higher -- just to be safe. As he raises his arms, Cole tells him to swing with his eyes open so he doesn't miss. At the last moment, Xavier says he can't do it. Tyler tells him to man up and chop off the leg. He just can't, so Tyler switches places with him. Tyler aims and raises his arms as Xavier holds Dylan down. Then, Dylan sees the snake with a black tail -- it's not poisonous. But before he can tell them, Tyler begins to swing down. A/cme minute: Relative Positioning

02:57
Our body position relative to our patient and /or bystanders is known as, "Relative Positioning." Inside position is the area directly in front of the patient, between their shoulders. It is the most vulnerable position for emergency rescuers. Whenever possible we should avoid inside position. Ironically, this is where we most often find ourselves during a medical response or bystander interview at an emergency scene.

Despite the official "truce", war is still going on and 11 days ago she tripped on a mine, trying to help a wounded fighter. Her one leg had to be amputated and another one iwas seriously injured. But she is full of opitimism and doesn't regret anything. "If I was in this situation again, I would do the same!" she says. After getting a prosthetic, she is planning to return to the army.

TesseracT - Smile (Single Version)

03:30
New album from TesseracT frontman Daniel Tompkins - 'Castles' https://danieltompkins.lnk.to/Castles TesseracT release new single and music video - "Smile" Pre-order / pre-save new album Sonder https://tesseract.lnk.to/Sonder Vocalist Daniel Tompkins explains the lyrical concept & inspiration behind the song: "Lyrically ‘Smile’ carries a strong and forward sense of irony as we explore and darkest side of the human condition. The song will witness the manifestation of an ’entity’. Consciousness survives through constant manipulation only to propagate pessimism and hopelessness. Our entity observes, consumes and evolves, bearing witness to human existence, mimicking our presence in colossal form." Recorded at both 4D Sound Studios, Brighton and Celestial Sound Studios, Notts UK and produced by Acle Kahney during late spring this year “Smile”, described by the band as their most collaborative track of recent times, here, the vocals play a key part in shaping the structure of the song, the bass shaping the verses, so, allowing the band to explore new perspectives. Bassist Amos Williams explains further: “We chose this track as although it is part of a greater theme, and is in fact towards the end of a story arc, it stands alone very well. We have a solid idea of where we would like to take this track on the next album as it is in no way finished. It is merely one step in a journey. "The verses and choruses stand very far apart from each other. There is a tension we wished to build through a minimalist approach, with small phrases that repeat against accompanying parts of different lengths. These undulate, seemingly getting lost against the nonconventional phrasing of the drums. All this is nothing new to TesseracT fans, but this time we have looked to really align the lyrical and musical messages." Deliverance - As Above-So Below (2019 Retroactive Records)

04:51
Buy this CD and other Rock and Metal albums at http://boonesoverstock.com Band: Deliverance Title: As Above~So Below (Retroarchives Edition) Label: Retroactive Records Product ID: RRCD1485 Format: CD, 4 panel jewel case, new cover Barcode: 637405138993 Release Date: March 26th, 2019 ABOUT THE ALBUM This 2019 CD reissue features all new artwork (thank you, Scott Waters of NoLifeTil Metal) that reflects singer, Jimmy Brown’s original vision for the original release but was never accomplished. The mastering of the reissue is the same as the original 2007 release (it was so good, there was no need to change it). Since their thrashing 1989 debut, Deliverance has been breaking new ground wherever and whenever they decide to make their metal presence known. The video for “Weapons of Our Warfare” was the first Christian video to ever get airplay on Headbanger’s Ball. And, when the band stepped away from speed metal and thrash in favor of progressive metal in the mid 90’s, they ascended to musical and artistic brilliance without peers. From the very beginning, Deliverance enjoyed both commercial and critical success that allowed them to dominate the Christian market as the most distinguished heavy metal band on the scene, period. Over a decade of aggressive touring, exposure in the mainstream markets, and 12 albums later, Deliverance continues to hold icon status among legions of metal enthusiasts world-wide. In spite of years of rumor-filled message boards and relentless requests from fans, this is the first new Deliverance album from vocalist Jimmy Brown and company since 2001. Never has Retroactive Records been privileged to release an album met with such fan appreciation and unbridled anticipation! Jimmy knew how high fan expectations would be for a new release, and has worked relentlessly with the band for over a year to deliver Retroactive Records an album that would not only delight, but astound fans….an album that would hold up under the most scrutinizing fan critique. Jimmy’s goal was to create the greatest Deliverance record of all-time; a culmination of a brilliant career, while continuing to break new ground. As Above ~ So Below is a prayer that things would be on earth, as they are in heaven. Musically, this 13th album represents a unilateral step forward in the heavy music genre; few groups have ever blended epic thrash / speed metal with the elegance and beauty of progressive metal (later period Deliverance) with such devastating skill and brutality. Never has a Deliverance album alternated so many moments of beauty (e.g.The Omen inspired opening track) with beastly moments of metallic fury and spine snapping riffs that would seem right at home on a Slayer, Believer, or early Deliverance album. The end result is one of the heaviest Deliverance albums yet. Jimmy continues to deliver vocal melodies that are as commanding as a thundering voice from above. What no one could have anticipated is that the band would deliver one of the most enormous-sounding metal records ever made. In our minds, it seems like the album is a piece of heaven here on earth, which, ironically means that the album is an answer to it’s own prayer! CUSTOMER REVIEW Big D. One of the forefathers of the christian thrash/speed movement are finally back after, what, six years? This one delves back into the Stay of Excecution/Learn years with just a hint of the thrash that they are still so fondly remembered for on their fist two albums. Seems Jimmy Brown, who is the machine driving D, just doesn't want to play speed demon anymore. Vocally, it's a little more gritty then his latter work but the Bowie influence is still the biggest factor and again it works very well with the style overall. Always able to find good rhythm players to back his riff monster outings the sound here is a sort of progressive/light thrash metal. Lyrically it's kind of all over, addressing skeptics of christianity, personal pleas to be more like Him above, and what sounds like a bite at those who use religion for personal gain. The lyrics show as much change and growth as the music from the first two albums. D started with just blatant and often direct quotes from the Bible to more allegory and introspection, yet their is really no question where they stand and hope is shining through. I highly recommend this for any lover of metal in a progressive fashion. If it was any more technical and a little faster it would start moving into the Nevermore range. I love it and give it 4.5 stars as I really would like a song or two of just outright speed as in the old days. Dr. Peter Beter Audio Letter 10: World Governement; Monetary Chaos; World War 3 - March 19, 1976

52:50
Dr. Peter David Beter - Audio Letter No. 10 - March 19, 1976 Text: http://www.peterdavidbeter.com/docs/all/dbal10.html MP3: http://archive.org/download/DrPeterBeter_AudioVideoLetters/drpeterbetter_audioletter_10.mp3 (1) World government and the destruction of family life (2) World monetary chaos and the coming crash here in America (3) World War III and the planned declaration of national emergency " Hello, everybody, this is Dr. Beter. Today is March 19, 1976, and this is my monthly AUDIO LETTER(R) No. 10. In his Farewell Speech as our nation's outgoing first president, George Washington warned us with the words: "Let there be no change by usurpation, for though this in one instance may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed." He would, no doubt be shocked to know that today, nearly two centuries later, his words are more truthful, more urgent, and more up-to-date than all the oceans of meaningless words being poured into the ears of the American public by current presidential hopefuls. "Change by usurpation" has become the order of the day as the rights of the people are usurped by our Unseen Rulers in order to change our way of life; and if the Rockefeller Brothers succeed in their accelerating plan to destroy our Republic right before our very eyes, their New World Dis-order in alliance with the Soviet Union will engulf us soon with blinding speed. But my friends, WE MUST NOT GIVE UP; because in the decisive days we are now entering, the Rockefeller Brothers will in many ways be more vulnerable than ever before because their complex program of conquest is now behind schedule, some parts of it as much as one year behind, and they now have to play a deadly game of catch-up ball. They are being forced now to speed up and compress the timing of very major events in the very next few months in an attempt to get back onto schedule and the hour is now very late for them, as well as for you and me! They are behind because they have stumbled repeatedly in the past two years. First they stubbed their toe by leaving a trail in the Fort Knox Gold theft, which has profoundly disrupted and now ruined some of the planned final stages of David Rockefeller's world gold corner. Then, for that and other reasons, Nelson Rockefeller failed to seize the presidency according to plan between March and June 1975; and beyond that, he has stubbed his toes two more times in the early fall and around Christmas 1975. John D. Rockefeller III, for his part, is being forced to close up shop at the New York office which published the huge "Bicentennial Declaration" ads one year ago calling for a "Second American Revolution--the reason being our success in exposing its connection with the secret new Rockefeller Constitution. The work is continuing but it is concentrated now in the "American Revolution Bicentennial Administration", a federal agency here in Washington headed by John Warner, who is on John D. Rockefeller III's committee of the "Second American Revolution"--the name given to a book written by John D. Rockefeller published in early 1973. As for brother Laurance, he is occupying himself with the Food Stamp Program and other preparations for war. The Stock Market, while it is extremely sick now generally, is being kept healthy looking to the general public by means of the Dow Jones industrial average, which is made up almost totally of Rockefeller companies. Until the other elements of their game plan can be put back on the track, the dramatic crash of the Dow is being held in abeyance. The biggest of these other elements, of course, is the coming war; and it, too, is over a year late now having been delayed first by Egyptian President Sadat and then thrown into a cocked hat last summer by Indira Gandhi's crack-down on the CIA. Because of these things among others, the Rockefeller Brothers are faced with a complex juggling act that must orchestrate our economic collapse here in America, world-wide monetary chaos, foreign intrigues, political maneuvering here at home, and igniting the first stage of World War III in the Middle East.[...]"

Secret Door (Bonus Track) The goth-inspired Arkansas rock band Evanescence, with its Linkin Park-meets-Tori Amos sound backed by chugging guitars, easily made it to the top of the charts in 2003 with its Wind-Up Entertainment debut album, Fallen. Singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody formed the band at the end of the '90s after meeting in their early teens during a "youth camp," Moody said in a statement. "I heard Amy playing Meat Loaf's 'I'd Do Anything for Love' at the piano. So I went over to meet her, and she started singing for me. I was pretty much blown away, so I suckered her into joining a band with me." As a duo, Evanescence didn't perform live, instead opting to release EPs and the full-length Origin. Lee told the BBC that Evanescence was mastering demos in Memphis, TN, when she and the band were discovered by producer Pete Matthews. He shopped the songs to record companies in New York, and Evanescence — rounded out by bassist Will Boyd, guitarist John LeCompt, and drummer Rocky Gray — eventually landed a contract with Wind-Up, the home of Creed. The soundtrack to the 2003 Ben Affleck action movie Daredevil brought success to Evanescence; the begging "Bring Me to Life," which appeared on the soundtrack along with the ballad "My Immortal," became a hit. (Paul McCoy, of labelmates 12 Stones, rapped on "Bring Me to Life," which originated as a piano ballad.) The songs proved to be a head start to Evanescence's future hit album Fallen, produced by Dave Fortman (Boy Sets Fire, Superjoint Ritual) and released in March 2003. Evanescence ran head first into controversy promoting Fallen. Originally, it was released in the Christian and secular markets; however, the band's use of profanity during an interview with Rolling Stone prompted its label, Wind-Up Records, to recall Fallen from Christian stores. Ironically, 12 Stones are also labeled Christian. Fallen surpassed double-platinum status, reaching the Top Ten in the United States, including the Top Contemporary Christian Albums chart, the Top Five in Canada, and number one in the United Kingdom. It spent more than 100 weeks on Billboard's Top 200; Evanescence also managed to pick up two Grammys (Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance) for the 2003 awards. During a European tour late that same year, however, Moody abruptly left the group over apparent creative differences. Ex-Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo soon replaced him in the band; he clicked with Lee and the two became cohesive songwriting partners who worked to further define Evanescence's classically influenced hard rock identity. The band continued to tour nonstop for the next year, and they issued the live album Anywhere But Home (recorded at a show in Paris) in November 2004 to hold over fans hungry for their follow-up. It also went platinum. More internal band drama ensued — including Balsamo recovering from a stroke suffered in fall 2005 and Boyd's departure the following summer — before that album, The Open Door, finally appeared in early October 2006. Tim McCord (ex-the Revolution Smile) joined up in Boyd's place that August, switching from his usual guitar to bass. Spearheaded by the single "Call Me When You're Sober," the album displayed a broader emotional range amid the band's evolving sound. Evanescence played several intimate theater dates immediately following the record's release before moving on to larger arena shows.

Sonic's World 20YFN Episode 19

Amy: Here's the first part of our new saga, "Completing Project: Shadow," and don't worry, the whole thing will not be this boring and depressing. This is what I think happened regarding Maria's death. By the way, I came up with what NIDS is based upon the root words included. Neuro means nerve so Neuro-Immune-Deficiency-Syndrome implies that it is a problem with the nervous system that includes an immune deficiency (mostly marked by difficulty fighting off disease). Also, an ironic (and completely random) fact, the word "ark" literally means box, but yet the space colony ARK is spherical. Crystalina belongs to us. Everyone/everything else belongs to Sega. The first song is Splash Hill Zone Act 3, from Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Episode 1, and belongs to Sega. The other songs are Clair de lune and Reverie, both by Debussy.

April 9th, 2014 Syracuse University “The Walking Dead and Assisted Suicide” Dr. William J. Peace with an introduction by Rachel Zubal-Ruggieri http://crippingthecon.com [Video description: Bill Peace speaking about The Walking Dead dressed as a zombie. Immediately after Dr. Peace's presentation is footage of the ZOMBIE WALK AND ROLL on the SU Quad. This footage is not captioned, and features images of actors as well as students, faculty, staff, community members and others dressed as zombies walking and rolling across the Quad. Questions regarding why and how zombies are connected with critical reflections on the rights of people with disabilities are welcomed and encouraged, as the idea of whose lives are worth living is central to both Dr. Peace's presentation (in zombie makeup) and the zombie walk and roll, itself.]
