The Collapse Of Tourism In Egypt (2012)
Tourism on Trial: In Egypt security problems have collapsed the tourism industry, one of the cornerstones of its economy. As radical Islamists push for strict regulations on tourists, Egypt's population is struggling. The lack of tourist business has afflicted over 3.5 million people who depend on the traffic for their income. But while they had hoped that the end of the revolution would bring tourists back, there is now another threat looming on the horizon. It may sound bizarre, but the radical Islamist Salafists believe that tourists should only be able to see the pyramids through a veil of wax, arguing "there is a religious decree against keeping them as they are". Unfortunately for the tourist industry, they hold 25% of the seats in the new democratically elected parliament. Under the Salafists public displays of affection would also be banned, as would men and women swimming together. In fact, their decrees would probably force Egypt's most famous beach resort, Sharm El Sheik, to close down. But as tour operator Abdis Salaam says, those in the industry are braced for a fight: "We will stand up against them. We are prepared to create a new revolution if our livelihood is affected." A Death List: China's Three Year Great Famine
Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Many books about China's Great Famine of the 1960s have been published. Sichuan has reportedly ranked the province with the most fatalities. 12 million people died in the Great Famine. In Xingjing County, 50,000 out of a population of 90,000 died of starvation. At the time, people ate people. Cannibalism was a common phenomenon. It was like a hell in the human world. However, such a serious incident in China's history has never been reported by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). China-based blog writer Shi Fenggang has done research in Xingjing County about the Great Famine. Shi gradually revealed the shocking death figures. Recently, Shi published articles on canyu.org about a conversation with a 68-year-old Hu Qingsheng in Shiyang Township, Tianquan County, Ya'an City. Hu recalled appalling facts about the Great Famine. Hu said that he was 14 years old and completely mature when the "people's commune" launched. His family belonged to the "Sixth Canteen of Shiyang Commune Labor Management District." At the beginning, there was food in the Canteen. In late 1959, the food diminished more and more and many people starved to death. What left the deepest impression on him was when, in late 1961 his neighbor killed his spouse and ate her. Then on a boat his neighbor shouted, "Good-bye forever!" and plunged into the river, drowning himself to death. Hu says, at the time, the most severe area was not in Tianquan County, but in Xingjing County and Lushan County. Xingjing County was the worst. 50,000 out of a population of 90,000 died of starvation. Hu says that according to his investigation, he can refute the propaganda which says, "No people died of starvation in Sichuan, and less than 1 million people died in the entire country." Hu believes that, with the passage of time memories of the three year Great Famine recede into the distance. Some of the survivors have passed away, some were aging but rarely did any publicize the facts. Thus society gradually forgot the incident. However, as witness and survivor, he takes responsibility to tell young generations about his experiences of hardship. Hu collected names of the deceased in the Sixth Canteen during the three year Great Famine. The list is a collection of names from the fifth, sixth and seventh villages in Shiyang Township. Tie Liu, China-based writer and a "Senior rightist" told NTD that he was held in a labor camp during the Great Famine. Tie Liu: "At that time, half the population in the whole county died. 50% of people survived. I was in a labor camp at Shatian farm. My weight went from 60 kilograms to 40-45 kilograms. In the beginning, one corpse had one designated hole to be buried in. Later, a dozen people were buried in one hole. A friend of mine's job was to bury corpses, and he buried a dozen people a day. Some people died of starvation, it was a common phenomenon." Frank Dikotter, a Dutch historian and professor at the University of Hong Kong published a book entitled, "Mao's Great Famine: The History of China's Most Devastating Catastrophe, 1958-1962." The book reveals that 45 million Chinese people died during the famine years caused by Mao Zedong. The book won the Samuel Johnson Prize in 2012 Soon, his assistant Zhou Xun, who was born in the 1970s in Sichuan, wrote another book "The Great Famine in China, 1958-1962." The book was published by Yale University Press. During Zhous research between 1996 and 2000, he collected real data from tens of provincial-level and county-level archive museums. The data includes the cannibalism tragedy. The great Chinese famine is still taboo amongst the CCP. At present, officials are silent or even attempt to cover it up, and even civilians are reluctant to mention this history. Many families choose to remain silent although their members died in the great famine. Zhou Xun wonders, "Why do the world's people know about the Holocaust, but few people know about the great famine? Being a historian, it is my duty, it is very important to let people in the world know what happened in China." Although the CCP doesn't want to admit how many millions of people starved to death during the three year great famine, Hu Qingsheng's list told us that those people really had been here in this world, but they died quietly. Hu hopes the modern Chinese people can be honest and bravely face history. He hopes the victims can rest in peace.

Wittenoom - The Abandoned Blue Asbestos Mine Ghost Town & The Residents Who Refuse To Leave
Wittenoom - The Blue Asbestos Ghost Town & The Residents Who Refuse To Leave Devils Dust Movie Trailer - The Killer James Hardie Asbestos Company & Bernie Banton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0REkJuPi1zw Devil's Dust is a two-part Australian television docu-drama mini-series on the ABC which first screened in 2012. Based on journalist Matt Peacock's 2009 book Killer Company, Devil's Dust was researched and developed by producer Stephen Corvini for over two years prior to the series' production. Through the factual case of Bernie Banton, it recounts the tragedy of many Australian workers and their families afflicted with asbestosis and mesothelioma in the twentieth-century asbestos mining and processing industries. Though the extreme health risks of exposure to asbestos dust had been documented for many years, manufacturer James Hardie persisted in large-scale use of the material, aided by inadequate regulation by state health agencies. BEFORE he died an early death at 61 in 2007, Australia knew Bernie Banton as the smiling man with asbestosis who carried an oxygen bottle wherever he went. We didn't know all that much about him at first, just that he was up against the polished legal might and political clout of building materials manufacturer James Hardie. I still remember the company's name stamped on sheets of "fibro" in the local hardware yard. I had no idea the lives of thousands of Australians might have been jeopardised by asbestos in materials such as this. Or that underfelt made from shredded asbestos bags under old carpet leaked pain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Dust Banton seemed an ordinary bloke, a former factory worker, who soon became the widely recognised face of the legal and political campaign to achieve compensation for the many sufferers of asbestos-related diseases. But, as this two-part series reveals, there was more to Banton than many of us realised as we watched the emerging folk hero on TV waging his seemingly losing battle against the corporate figureheads of the James Hardie company. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/arts/review/no-clean-sweep-as-miniseries-devils-dust-tackles-bernie-bantons-asbestos-story/story-fn9n8gph-1226513068301 Bernard Douglas (Bernie) Banton AM (13 October 1946 – 27 November 2007) was an Australian social justice campaigner. He was the widely-recognised face of the legal and political campaign to achieve compensation for the many sufferers of asbestos-related conditions, which they contracted after either working for the company James Hardie or being exposed to James Hardie Industries' products. Bernie himself suffered from asbestosis, Asbestos-Related Pleural Disease (ARPD) and then finally peritoneal mesothelioma. These conditions required him to carry an oxygen tank wherever he went. The 2009 book Killer Company details Banton's fight against James Hardie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Banton Bernie Banton on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjhzvzoo0sk Banton brought an action against Amaca Pty Ltd before the Dust Diseases Tribunal of New South Wales https://safetyatworkblog.com/2012/10/30/devils-dust-australian-movie-on-asbestos-and-corporate-morality/ Exposure to Deadly Asbestos, Pesticides, Illegal Dumping etc - The Dangers, Examples, Advice & Warnings - James Hardie Australia ( Mesothelioma ) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhyT97-KaZ_04EsHUmFurL1vLBSdMtzzR Devils Dust - Deadly Natural Blue Asbestos Facts & Dangers - Products of Asbestos - Mesothelioma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eKi4_AM6l8

China News - Sichuan Official Li Chuncheng Latest Target in Corruption Probe
Another senior Chinese official appears set to be toppled following reports he's being investigated for corruption. But there could be more to the case. Chinese state-run media this week reported—then retracted—that Li Chuncheng has been placed under "shuanggui"—it's a Communist Party disciplinary system that isolates the individual, and then put them through an intense interrogation. Li is the deputy Party Secretary of Sichuan Province, the second in line after Liu Qibao. Liu was recently appointed the new head of the Chinese regime's Propaganda Department. 56-year-old Li Chuncheng was last seen on November 19th, and failed to turn up at an important meeting on December 4th. The former Mayor and deputy Party chief of Chengdu in Sichuan province was on a rising political track. In November, he was promoted to be an alternate member of the Communist Party's Central Committee. Now his career may come to an abrupt end. And it comes as new Chinese Leader Xi Jinping promises to tackle corruption and clean up the communist party's image But it could also be the result of something else—an intense power struggle within the Party. Li is a loyalist to Zhou Yongkang—the former security chief blamed for worsening the abuse of rule of law while he was the head of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee. The sprawling security organ has been demoted in rank after November's leadership transition, after some described it to have become the Communist Party's "second power center". C&C Generals Brutal - China - Operation: Nuclear Winter 1/4
Part 1/4 of China - Operation: Nuclear Winter in my C&C Generals Brutal walkthrough. Probably the hardest end of campaign level in this game in my opinion, because of the many factors to consider, so I'll go into deatil on each. There are five factors I consider to be MAJOR ones. Firstly, and almost immediately, you want to keep as many of your initial units alive to help destroy the GLA supply base, and to help mount a good defence of your position. Secondly, as mentioned in the previous one defence, it's VERY important in comparison to the other two end of level campaigns, in particular the US one, which was rather easy. Although the GLA units essentialy are light armoured, there is enough of them and they are frequent enough to cause you some harm. A wall of fire created by Two Dragon Tanks, added to two Inferno Cannons force firing on the ground, as well as two Overlord Tanks, a couple of Gattling Cannons and the building near the supplies by your entrance garrisoned with Tank Hunters. It's also vital to get the Napalm upgrade, and the Chain Gun upgrade for your defences as soon as you can. Replenish your lost forces too. Cluster Mines will also bolster your defences. The next factor, is the SCUD Storm factor, which is perhaps the main reason the level takes four parts. The only way to avoid an anthrax death, is to keep your funds below $5,000, this is easier than it sounds. Initially, start producing Hackers to generate income, and spend alot on them (20-30 until it's destroyed, add 10-20 later). Spend the income the hackers generate on Overlords + upgrades, replenishing defences, and upgrading other units and structures. The only problem is finding it... The best way to do so, is to Support Power Hop up to the top of the map. E.M.P. , Artillery Barrage, and Cluster Mines will reveal the map for you, and though it may seem wasteful, it will give you plenty of time to produce your attacking force. I'll cover the other factor in the next video.

Eric X. Li: A tale of two political systems
It's a standard assumption in the West: As a society progresses, it eventually becomes a capitalist, multi-party democracy. Right? Eric X. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "This is a law advancing peaceful unification between the sides. It is not targeted at the people of Taiwan, nor is it a war bill." 6. Cutaway 7. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "This (anti-secession) law is meant to curb and oppose the Taiwan independence forces. Peace can only be maintained once the Taiwan independence forces are stopped and this is conducive for Taiwanese and foreigners to invest in mainland China." 8. Wide pan of presser 9. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "The Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs. We will not allow interference from other countries. We do not wish to see foreign interference. However, we do not fear foreign interference." 10. Cutaway 11. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "This work (for the re-evaluation of Renminbi) is now under process. As to the timing, the reform measures to be adopted may come unexpectedly." 12. Cutaway of cameramen 13. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "The election of a new chief executive will strictly be based on the Hong Kong Basic Law and related laws. I am confident that the Hong Kong people can manage Hong Kong well." 14. Cutaway of people applauding 15. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "Top priority for this government is to strengthen and improve micro-regulation work to maintain the stable and fast development of China." 16. Cutaway of journalists and photographers 17. Tilt down of presser 18. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier: "China is reforming this legal system, including the above mentioned death penalty, which is being allocated to the supreme people's court. However, due to our national conditions, we cannot abolish the death penalty. More than half of the countries in the world have a death penalty system, but we will guarantee prudence and justice in the use of the death penalty." 19. Wide shot of presser STORYLINE China's parliament approved a law on Monday authorising an attack to stop rival Taiwan from pursuing formal independence, a day after President Hu Jintao told the Chinese military to be prepared for war. The ceremonial National People's Congress passed the law despite US appeals for restraint and warnings by Taiwan that it would damage regional stability and tenuous relations between Beijing and Taipei. Speaking later at a news conference, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said the anti-secession law was meant "to curb and oppose the Taiwan independence forces". "Peace can only be maintained once the Taiwan independence forces are stopped and this is conducive for Taiwanese and foreigners to invest in mainland China," the premier said. The ceremonial National People's Congress unanimously passed the anti-secession law, which authorises an attack if Taiwan moves to make its de facto independence permanent. The law doesn't give details of what specific developments might trigger an attack. Taiwan and China split in 1949, but Beijing claims the island as its territory and has threatened repeatedly to attack if Taiwan pursues formal independence or puts off talks on unification. Wen reiterated China's assertion that Taiwan was strictly an internal Chinese matter and cautioned outsiders not to get involved. Beijing has all along called Taiwan an internal issue. It objected vigorously last month when Tokyo and Washington issued a joint security statement listing "peaceful resolution" of the standoff between the mainland and Taiwan as a common strategic concern. Changes could come unexpectedly, Wen said. The concept of "Foreigners for Peace 2012 Initiative" is therefore to cater for the need to have peace in Ghana before, during and after the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. Peace activists around the world associated with the World as One Foundation have identified the establishment of such an initiative as an immediate need, in these parts of the globe inflicted with violence and conflicts due to political, religious and tribal differences. The foreigners for Peace 2012 Initiative will allow the World as One Foundation to strengthen its existing programmes while pursuing additional initiatives. The objectives and activities described below are meant to supplement the World as One Foundation's current services, rather than to replace them. for any info: [email protected]

Understanding the National Debt and Budget Deficit
In which John discusses the US national debt, the federal budget deficit, plans for shrinking or eliminating the deficit, and tries to provide some context to the political rhetoric and statistics that are constantly thrown around in an election season. Along the way, I hope you'll understand why the United States' sovereign debt hasn't led us to an economic crisis, but also why budget deficits need to shrink in order to ensure that credit remains inexpensive and the US continues to enjoy the trust of the world economy. (Friendly reminder: Educational videos, by extensive precedent, are allowed to be longer than 4:00.) Here's why I think the gold standard is a bad idea: 1. By restricting money supply to the supply of gold, you risk shrinking the money supply just because of a shock leading to a disruption in supply from mining. This creates a lot of volatility in the money supply for no reason. 2. The gold standard limits a government's ability to respond to changes in the market, which can (and has) led to unescapable deflationary spirals. 3. Far from inspiring investor confidence, its implementation would crush it: http://www.ocregister.com/opinion/gold-369936-standard-money.html Posters and stuff: http://dftba.com My tumblr: http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com My twitter: http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen HERE ARE A LOT OF LINKS TO NERDFIGHTASTIC THINGS: Shirts and Stuff: http://dftba.com/artist/30/Vlogbrothers Hank's Music: http://dftba.com/artist/15/Hank-Green John's Books: http://amzn.to/j3LYqo ====================== Hank's Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/hankgreen Hank's Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/hankimon Hank's tumblr: http://edwardspoonhands.tumblr.com John's Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen John's Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/johngreenfans John's tumblr: http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com ====================== Other Channels Crash Course: http://www.youtube.com/crashcourse SciShow: http://www.youtube.com/scishow Gaming: http://www.youtube.com/hankgames VidCon: http://www.youtube.com/vidcon Hank's Channel: http://www.youtube.com/hankschannel Truth or Fail: http://www.youtube.com/truthorfail ====================== Nerdfighteria http://effyeahnerdfighters.com/ http://effyeahnerdfighters.com/nftumblrs http://reddit.com/r/nerdfighters http://nerdfighteria.info/ A Bunny (\(\ ( - -) ((') (')

Has the West Lost It? A Conversation with Kishore Mahbubani
For more on this event, visit: https://bit.ly/2xBv5lk For more on the Georgetown Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues: https://uschinadialogue.georgetown.edu/ October 1, 2018 | In his new book, Has the West Lost It? A Provocation, renowned scholar Kishore Mahbubani assesses the challenges the West faces in a fast-changing, multipolar world. He argues that while democracy and peace remain critical for global order, the West can no longer presume to impose its ideology on the world. Only by recognizing its changing status, and seeking to influence rather than dominate, can the West continue to play a leading role in global affairs. On October 1, 2018, Professor Mahbubani visited Georgetown for a presentation and discussion of this important book. Dr. Victor Cha, the D.S. Song-KF endowed chair in international affairs, moderated the discussion.

Road built around house as Chinese couple refuse to move
23 November 2012 A couple's home in eastern China has been turned into a roundabout after a road was built around it, when they refused to move out., Luo Baogen and his wife are the only residents left in a neighbourhood of once-connected homes that was demolished to make way for a major road. The thoroughfare leads to a newly built railway station on the outskirts of the city of Wenling in Zhejiang province. Mr Baogen said the house cost 600,000 Yuan (around £60,000) to build, but the authorities have offered substantially less to relocate him.

VOA news for Monday, February 17th, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Monday, February 17th, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. 4 killed in blast aboard an Egyptian tour bus. Afghan insurgent group to join the Presidential election. I'm Ray Kouguell reporting from Washington. An explosion ripped through a tourist bus near Egypt's border with Israel, killing 3 South Korean tourists and their Egyptian driver Sunday. The bus, carrying 33 tourists, was on the way from St. Catherine's Monastery in central Sinai to Israel when it exploded at the border crossing in Taba. The South Korean Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of 2 of its nationals and says the tourists were members of a Christian church group. Security officials say the cause of the bombing remains unclear. Suspected Islamist militants have killed more than 90 Christian villagers in an attack in northeastern Nigeria. Witnesses say the suspected militants, dressed as soldiers, attacked a village in Borno state late Saturday night. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility, but authorities suspect the Islamist militant group Boko Haram was behind the attack. Emergency workers in South Africa have rescued almost a dozen miners trapped in an abandoned gold mine east of Johannesburg. Rescue workers used heavy duty equipment to remove large rocks and boulders that fell on top of the mine shaft. Officials had been in contact with about 30 of the trapped miners, who say around 200 others were stuck in the tunnels deep below the surface. Police at the scene say some of the trapped miners were reluctant to emerge because of fears they would be arrested. The miners went down into the mine on Saturday after illegally digging a tunnel near the abandoned mine shaft. They were discovered after police patrolling the area heard their calls for help. A key Afghan group fighting alongside the Taliban against NATO forces announced it will formally participate in the upcoming Presidential elections in Afghanistan. Ayaz Gul reports. The announcement to participate in the election by the Hizb-e-Islami faction is seen as a blow to the Taliban-led insurgency in Afghanistan. Led by fugitive former Afghan Prime Minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the insurgent group is the 2nd largest after the Taliban. While the Hizb-e-Islami faction fought alongside the Taliban against coalition forces, it had been a rival to the Taliban while it was in power. It has until now stayed away from Presidential elections, citing the presence of coalition forces in Afghanistan. The polls are being described as crucial for future stability in the country and it will be the 1st time in the troubled Afghan history that power will be transferred through a democratic process. Ayaz Gul, for VOA news, Islamabad. There are 11 candidates in the race to replace President Hamid Karzai, who is barred by the constitution from running a third time. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told an Indonesian audience that climate change is a threat to the entire world. Secretary Kerry said the science of climate change is compelling the world to act and the world's 2 biggest superpowers--the U.S. and China--have agreed to work together on the problem. "Together we account for roughly 40 percent of the world's emissions. But this is not just about China and the United States. It's about every country on Earth doing whatever it can to pursue cleaner and healthier energy sources." Secretary Kerry says 97 percent of scientists agree climate change is occurring and is being caused by human activity. Anti-government protesters in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, have vacated city hall to meet a government amnesty offer. The end of the 2-month occupation came on Sunday after the government made concessions and released detained protesters. Iraqi radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr announced his retirement from politics. In a handwritten note posted on his website Sunday, Sadr announced his "non-intervention in all political affairs." He said he was closing down all his offices, except for some charities. Sadr and his militia group, the Mehdi Army, gained prominence after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. 4 countries won Olympic gold medals Sunday at the Sochi Games in Russia, with the Netherlands sweeping the top 3 places in the 1,500-meter women's speedskating event. The Czech Republic won its 1st gold, taking the women's snowboarding cross event. Norway won the men's super-G. Sweden claimed the gold in the men's 4 by 10-kilometer cross country relay. The Netherlands leads with 17 total medals, followed by the United States and Russia with 16. Germany has the most gold medals at 7. I'm Ray Kouguell, VOA news. English/Nat Delegates from around the world are gathering in Cambodia to call for a worldwide ban on land mines. There are an estimated nine (m) million land mines buried in Cambodia - more than one for every member of the population. Dozens of Cambodians, many of them children, are killed or maimed by land mines each week. The conference opened with a written message from U-N Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali supporting a worldwide ban to stop what he called a 'global land mine crisis'. From the Vatican, Pope John Paul's letter described the weapons as 'evil'. It's no accident that delegates are meeting in Cambodia. With a population of just eight million, it's estimated nine million devices remain uncleared. The Khmer Rough continues to lay mines today and in more than 20 years of fighting thousands have been killed, with more than 30-thousand amputees struggling to survive. SOUNDBITE: 'If you think over time, land mines have killed many more people than chemical, nuclear and biological weapons all put together.' SUPER CAPTION: Jody Williams, International Campaign to Ban Mines A mine costs as little as three dollars to put in the ground but the U-N says it takes 1-thousand dollars to remove each one. Nineteen countries, including the United States, have banned the export of land mines. Delegates working with the thousands of victims want a worldwide ban when the U-N reviews its policy in September. Here in Phnom Penh, a U-S Vietnam veteran charity set up a project where those injured can produce wheelchairs as an alternative to begging. Many Cambodians still regard the injuries as punishment for a bad previous life. SOUNDBITE: "They become less than people in society. Their only value is that other people can give them money. They become beggars for the rest of their life. It's a death sentence." SUPER CAPTION: Ed Miles, Veterans International Even if the U-N were able to enforce a global ban there are an estimated 100 million uncleared devices awaiting their victims across the world. In just six months the allied powers had – without talking to the defeated powers – negotiated a new world order while trying to make sure Germany would pay reparations to rebuild. The German delegation was only informed about the peace terms a few weeks before signing the Treaty and they were shocked about the terms. Two Belgium towns in mourning for bus-crash children
http://www.euronews.com/ Plans are being made in Heverlee for a joint funeral on Thursday for seven Belgian children who died in bus crash in Switzerland. There are also two adult victims from the town. All of the children attended the same school - St Lambertus, located in the Flemish part of Belgium, close to Leuven, around 30 kilometres east of Brussels. Headlines in Dutch-speaking Belgian papers poignantly read 'Died Together, Buried Together' referring to the victims of an accident that happened as they returned from a ski trip. Another town left reeling is Lommel, on the border with the Netherlands, where 15 of the schoolchildren lived. "Everyone is in pain. Lommel is a small; you know everyone here. So everyone knows someone or has family that was in the bus," said one woman working in a Lommel bakery. Residents, like Red Cross volunteer Willy Bekers, are also mourning the six adults who lost their lives. "The teacher of sixth grade, Raymond Theunis, was a friend of mine. We worked together for years, for the Red Cross here in Lommel," Bekers said. Lommel's memorial service on Wednesday will be attended by members of the royal family from Belgium and the Netherlands, as some of the children who died were Dutch. Shanghai Openly Challenges Xi Jinping's Comments on Traditional Chinese Culture
Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Xi Jinping recently attended a Teacher's Day event at Beijing Normal University. Xi said it is a "sad thing" to see classical Chinese poems deleted from the textbook. On the next day, the official newspaper of the Shanghai party committee claimed on weibo that "studying traditional Chinese culture is like helping shoots grow by pulling them up," which sounds to be in defiance of Xi's words. Commentators said, Xi's comment on history and tradition can be a signal announcing the fact of Jiang Zemin's treason. On the other hand, the attitude of the Shanghai government will only make Jiang's situation even worse. In late August, Chinese media reported that Shanghai would delete all classical Chinese poems from the textbook of first-year elementary school students. Many parents and residents complained about the decision or opposed it. On Sep. 2, People's Daily website published an article titled "Deletion of Classical Poems: Reduction of Burden or Tradition" to criticize Shanghai's move. On Sep. 9, Xi visited Beijing Normal University. Xi said, he disapproved very much of removing classical poems and essays from the textbook. Xi also commented "desinicization is a sad thing." Beijing made a quick response to Xi's comments. On the next day, the Beijing government announced that the city's first-year textbook will have 22 classical poems from next September. The number is increased from 6 to 8 poems in the current textbook. On the same day, People's Daily also published an article authored by "Party Organ Commentator". The first section had used the title "Who was criticized by Xi Jinping" to direct against Shanghai. At the end, the article said "As Beijing will make those changes from next year, let's see whether other places will actively follow the example of our capital." Commentators believe that Xi Jinping is pressing Shanghai for their response with the article. The same evening, Jiefang Daily, Shanghai's official daily newspaper, said on weibo that "add a dozen poems into the textbook overnight, but how can that benefit our tradition?" and "Anyone with some knowledge of traditional culture must know the meaning of "Help shoots grow by pulling them up"." These again were comments full of defiance. Chen Minghui:"Xi's speech is to show his hand to Jiang Zemin. This is also his trump card. That is, the history and desinicization issue. Who destroyed traditional Chinese culture most? Whose father was a traitor? There is irrefutable evidence to answer these questions. Other key facts include Jiang's spying for other countries and signing treasonable treaties." According to "Truth about Jiang Zemin", Jiang's father Jiang Shijun was a traitor working for the Japanese during World War II. Jiang himself signed away over 1.7 million km2 of Chinese land to Russia. Chinese political commentator Chen Minghui said, that after taking power, Xi Jinping did a lot to eliminate Jiang Zemin's evil faction that ruled China for 25 years with corruption. He launched the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone in economic field, and used "Constitutionalism" and "Anti-corruption" as political weapons. His anti-corruption campaign has worked well and now Xi will play his trump card. In December 2012, Xi for the first time presented the idea saying "Rule of the law is based on rule in accord with constitution." Since then, Xi's "dream of constitutionalism" had flickered in media reports. Last year, party mouthpieces even massively made criticisms against constitutionalism for a period. Chen Minghui:"Xi's constitutionalism theory is against Jiang's keeping China under control even many years after retirement. Jiang's criminal group has seriously persecuted human rights and religious groups, democrats, dissidents and petitioners. They did that in a systematic and massive manner. Those are extremely serious crimes against humanity." Chen also commented that Xi may worry that his “dream of constitutionalism” can shake up the whole regime and therefore has been wavering in using that "weapon". Probably the history issue is a less risky "card" for Xi and he is testing to use it. Chen Minghui:"The big tigers that fell recently are indeed from one single group. However, we have not seen any official report about the complex connections between them. It's still not the time yet. If those connections are announced to the public, probably Zeng Qinghong and the final boss Jiang Zemin will have to be exposed to the public, too." Commentators said, Beijing as "Capital" of Xi's group has been in an odd fight against Shanghai, the base camp of Jiang Zemin. However, Jiefang Daily's open resistance against Xi, no matter it is an intentional move or not, is exposing the war between Xi and Jiang to the world. 《神韵》2014世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

Money Counting Machines Burn Out During Corruption Investigation of Chinese Official
Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Recently, a story emerged from China of money bill counters burning out, after overuse in counting embezzled money. A Deputy Chief of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Coal Bureau was found to have hidden over 100 million Yuan in his home. When the investigators used bill counters to tabulate all the money, some of them burned out. Let's see the report. Wei Pengyuan, a Deputy Chief of the CCP National Energy Administration's Coal Bureau, was placed under investigation this April. Wei was found to have over 100 million Yuan in cash at his home. It was reported that the authorities used 16 bill counters to calculate the amount of cash, and four of them burned out due to overheating. The report said that Wei's job is to review and approve renovation and infrastructure projects for the coal bureau. Many Chinese commented on the humorous nature of the report. Some said "Inflation has not occurred despite overprinting money, and now we finally know the reason for that. A ton of cash rests at a corrupt officials' home and never flows into market". "Our corrupt officials really contribute a lot to controlling the price index". Some calculated that during the less than 6 years when Wei Pengyuan worked as a vice deputy leader of the coal bureau, he embezzled 47,000 Yuan ($7,520) each day. Sui Muqing, Chinese human rights lawyer: "Some are astonished that a vice deputy leader was able to steal so much money. However, in my opinion, that is only a relatively small amount, because after all he works in the power sector. The surprising fact is that he had kept over 100 million Yuan in cash at home. Normally very few people keep that large amount of money at home. That's my point." A report said that if this amount was all in 100-Yuan bills, it would weigh over a ton. The money pile would reach 100 meters high, about the same as a 30-storey building. Chinese anti-corruption activist Shi Caifei commented that Wei Pengyuan is not an isolated case among CCP officials. Shi Caifei: "There are many CCP officials like that and it did not happen by accident. There are many of them, from high-level to low-level CCP officials. They embezzle amounts from millions to tens of millions, to hundreds of millions. Every level of CCP official is doing the same." Shi Caifei was previously attacked and injured for reporting on a corrupt official who embezzle collective assets in Huilong town, Qidong city, Jiangsu Province. He was then forcibly abducted to a mental hospital, and was injected with harmful drugs. Since 2012, a large group of CCP officials have been arrested on corruption charges. Despite this, the number and amount of corruption continues to rise. By the end of 2013, the anti-corruption organization Transparency International announced its annual ranking corruption index. China ranks eighth, and belongs to a group of counties with serious corruption. Sui Fuqing: "You can never arrest all corrupt officials. Some CCP officials do that under pressure. It is like you have to kill someone as proof of fidelity when you become a bandit. If someone embezzles, others have to follow. You can't have corrupt and innocent officials in the same department. Why were some officials exposed? Because they did not embezzle enough, otherwise they won't be easily exposed if they have embezzled a lot." The CCP found a lot of hidden corrupt officials using reports from mistresses and thieves. Shi Caifei confirms though that the CCP's anti-corruption campaign never manages to reach the fundamental problem. Shi Caifei: "The campaign indeed has little to do with local officials. There are no real anti-corruption actions in local places. Everything is the same as usual. The whole system is chaotic in management, and it lacks supervision. The party is both the player and the referee, and it indeed never allows independent observers to monitor its actions." The CCP's supreme procuratorate recently made an announcement. They had investigated 8,222 corruption and bribery cases between January and March. 10,840 individuals were found to have been involved. Among those cases, 82.2 percent, or 6,759 cases involve an amount of embezzlement over 50,000 Yuan ($8,000). Chinese human rights lawyers Sui Muqing comments that the CCP is currently running it's most serious anti-corruption campaign since it took power. However, it still cannot solve the problem. Sui Muqing: "In the long run, any 'campaign' or 'movement' will not work. 《神韵》2014世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/

India According to the World Gold Council, the Bank of India currently holds 557.7 tons of gold. It is one of the largest stores of gold in the world! This makes up 9.9 % of the country’s total foreign reserve. Foreign exchange reserves is money or other assets held by a nation’s central bank so they can back the national currency. India, home to 1.25 billion people, is the number one largest consumer of the precious metal. Furthermore, India is one of the most reliable drivers of global demand. For example, India’s festival and wedding season, which runs from October to December, has historically been a major market for gold. And probably, one of the most interesting facts about India and gold is that India rarely invests much in gold. This is because as a country, India operates under the belief that buying gold leads to a deficit. And their belief must be proving right as things also seem to be improving for India. For instance, if you look at the last few years, India has increased its gold reserves from 557.74 to 557.77. While this might not seem like a lot, India is also at its highest point in history! In addition to what the country holds, Indian households which are considered the world’s largest hoarders of gold, hold a record 23,000-24,000 tons, which is worth about $800 billion. 9.) Netherlands In the past few years, the Netherlands has held 52% of its foreign reserve in gold. The Netherlands has a reported 612.45 tons. In 2016 it was reported that the bank was looking for a place to store all its gold because they were going to renovate the vaults and needed to moving it. The Dutch central bank is planning to move the country’s gold reserves from the center of Amsterdam to a new complex called the Cash Center. Like most countries, Dutch gold is also held in banks around the world to reduce risk. Security measures to guard the gold 24/7 have become a problem in Amsterdam. 189,000 kilos of gold will be moved at the beginning of 2022. Maybe this is one reason that over the last decade and a half, the Netherlands was selling off tons of gold in order to reduce its reserve. However, there weren’t that many buyers out there and they sold less than the country wanted. More recently the country has had less ambition to sell gold. Currently, the country holds the same amount of tons, 612.45 that they have over the last few years. However, the country has increased its percentage of foreign reserves to 61.2 %. 8.) Japan Japan is another country which had been increasing its gold reserves since the 1960’s. Their official gold holdings were reported at 765.2 tons. About 2.4% of Japan’s gold today is in foreign reserve. Historically, Japan has always held a bit more gold than other countries. This was true until 2011, when they began to sell some of their reserve in order to pump money into the economy after the tsunami and the following Fukushima nuclear disaster. But even with selling, Japan’s central bank has been one of the most aggressive practitioners of quantitative easing. For example, in January of 2016, it lowered interest rates below zero, which has helped fuel demand in gold around the world. 7.) Switzerland Prior to 1997, Switzerland was steadily building its gold reserves. In 1997, the decision was made to sell some of those reserves to bolster the Swiss currency and diversify the foreign reserves. The percent of foreign reserves in Switzerland is currently 6.7 %. Switzerland actually has the world’s largest reserves of gold per capita and currently has reported 1,040 tons. Over time, many citizens in the country started to feel like the bank was getting rid of too much gold. They then banded together with the “Save the Swiss” movement. However, once everyone was able to vote in 2014, the vote came to a no, and gold continued to be sold. During World War II, Switzerland became the center of the gold trade in Europe, making transactions with both the Allies and Axis powers. Today, much of its gold trading is done with Hong Kong and China. Around last year, the Swiss National Bank made a $5.9 billion profit, reportedly from its gold holdings.
