In fact, recreational gold mining is a pastime these days for many people, and for good reason: the largest nugget ever found in California was discovered by an amateur. Here are some key locations worldwide that you can still prospect for the yellow metal – you never know, you may get lucky and strike it rich. Ep.14 The Abandoned RAWDON GOLD MINE

26:22
EPISODE 14: A full 1400-foot underground explore of this lost century-old gold mine, well hidden in Rawdon, NS. Part of the original Rawdon Gold Mines district. We are a group of Abandoned Mine explorers in Nova Scotia, who will be bringing you highlights of our underground adventures. (MORE INFO BELOW) Abandoned Mine Hunting is somewhat of a cross between the hobby of urban exploration, caving (spelunking), and history enthusiast. If this is your kind of thing, be sure to subscribe so you will always be informed of each new episode. IF YOU KNOW OF AN ABANDONED MINE, we'd love to hear from you. Send a private message. We may just come and do an explore and episode featuring your site ! Future episodes will involve everything from the smallest discoveries, to deep underground explores. ** Please be sure to watch in 720p60 HD ** We shoot and publish in 60 frames per second, taking advantage of YouTube's new 720p60 offering. SPECIAL NOTE: While this type of exploration is almost always kilometers back in deep forest, it cannot always be guaranteed that the land we are hiking is public (Crown). These forgotten old mines/claims are almost always over 100 years old. It is also common that most mine workings have some kind of natural cave-in covering their mouth, after nearly a century of erosion. So some explores may involve preparation of clearing that cave-in, and/or dealing with letting spring water (flooding) out of the adits. These facts, along with the inherent danger of abandoned mines, force us to remain anonymous. We are responsible for our own risks & actions (not yours), but be clear we are not promoting this activity. Only showing you what we do. As with any typical Urban Exploration type channel, our faces and commentary will always be masked. If you are seeing an Episode, it means we are already month(s) finished with that site and never going back. The delay is intentional, as nothing shown here will be in realtime. It cannot be stressed enough - abandoned mines can pose a ton of lethal threats. *We are not kids looking for kicks* Keep in mind that our group is made up of responsible adults, each with specific skills, and cross-Canada experience with over 75+ mine walks. Most 10 times larger and deeper than will ever be found in Nova Scotia! Specific research is always done beforehand. Required equipment and backups are a must. While it is indeed possible to safely spelunk an abandoned mine, DO NOT ENTER A MINE without being experienced, or going with an experienced explorer. If you don't know what you're doing, STAY OUT STAY ALIVE is the best policy.

City of Gold

This classic short film from Pierre Berton depicts the Klondike gold rush at its peak, when would-be prospectors struggled through harsh conditions to reach the fabled gold fields over 3000 km north of civilization. Using a collection of still photographs, the film juxtaposes the Dawson City at the height of the gold rush with its bustling taverns and dance halls with the more tranquil Dawson City of the present. YouTube GOLD - RESCUE 911: 4 Buckets and a Pool?! (s2 e7) | RC ADVENTURES

32:49
The sun has been lit on fire.. and it blazes down a heated wrath across the open skies of the Alberta prairies. We are willing and waiting! All of us have been working all 2019 - in preparation of this day. Time to move the shaker plant into its final resting location on the mine site. Now, all of our washer plants are emptying into a tailings pond.. which then diverts the water to a settling pond. But, this is no easy task. It will take all of our experience as a crew to make this happen. If we drop the wash plant into the pond, this will be a season ender. In anticipation of a Big Payout, I have contacted https://www.911metallurgist.com/ to be better fitted with a GOLD SHAKER RECOVERY Table. The table will act as an Active Sluice Box separating the rocks, sand, black sand and GOLD! The "911 Metallurgist" company has been around to help small sized mining operations, as well as the MONSTER FULL SIZE Plants, but truly specialize in processing equipment, consulting and engineering, as well as Ore Lab Test Work. I'm beginning to think that I should send them a sample of my Alberta's soil, so they can predict how much gold-grams-per-meter, we have. In previous episodes, we must be losing Gold in our recovery process - so a proper table should help get some of that back. The only thing I didn't estimate is how difficult it would be to dial in a piece of machinery that none of us have ever used before! 4 Buckets and a Pool?! This will take some practice and advice. WE MUST GET MORE GOLD! Now, on a serious note - "YouTube Gold" is a 100% #Parody of the popular Gold Shows we see on TV such as #goldrush, yukon gold and others.. Yes, we are mining real gold.. and yes, we are full grown men using tiny machines to mine the gold. There is irony in all of what you see.. and of course.. it's all choreographed. THiS IS THE INTERNET.. #Canadian Do not believe everything you see.. #trending Most everything is staged, such as scenarios, acting out our characters, comedy.. etc.. In fact, we are not even working for efficiency, as we are a group of hobbyists who are more interested in entertaining our audience.. than "actually getting gold". Being an RC show, we use as many RC's as possible to achieve this. Again, all we are doing is goofing off for a good Saturday of fun. Many folks ask us what our wives think.. Well, I suggest you watch more of our channel so you can meet our families.. #fullsupport ! A few of the things that are not staged is our friendship, the laughter, camaraderie, and of course.. THE GOLD! (Yes, it's real pay dirt). The true Gold is the experience we get as friends, what we hope the viewers get watching a group of goofballs entertain them with some very cool toys. Westward Expansion: Crash Course US History #24

12:44
In which John Green teaches you about the Wild, Wild, West, which as it turns out, wasn't as wild as it seemed in the movies. When we think of the western expansion of the United States in the 19th century, we're conditioned to imagine the loner. The self-reliant, unattached cowpoke roaming the prairie in search of wandering calves, or the half-addled prospector who has broken from reality thanks to the solitude of his single-minded quest for gold dust. While there may be a grain of truth to these classic Hollywood stereotypes, it isn't a very big grain of truth. Many of the pioneers who settled the west were family groups. Many were immigrants. Many were major corporations. The big losers in the westward migration were Native Americans, who were killed or moved onto reservations. Not cool, American pioneers. This Is How You Can Become Rich Mining In Yukon

05:24
Tony Barresi, V.P. Exploration of Triumph Gold, a junior miner acquired by Goldcorp, gives insights on the techniques exploration companies can use to profit in Yukon. “There are so many types of deposit models that could cause near surface gold, and then something a little bit lower grade but much higher tonnage beneath that.” Barresi told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Yukon Mining Investment Conference in Dawson City. “And if you’re able to apply those new models to the abundance of areas that have seen near surface gold exploration in the Yukon, people are going to start finding stuff,” he said. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. Historic Gold Mine & Mill Deep In The Forest - Part 2

18:01
There is quite a lot to this abandoned mine site and so while I found a fair amount when I was wandering around on my own, I still missed interesting pieces of mining equipment that Michael showed me the next day. Further, I’m quite confident that there is plenty more scattered around in the brush or underneath the ruined buildings that we both missed. Eventually, forest fires will roar through all of the areas where these abandoned mines we document are located. When that happens, many hidden adits and pieces of metal equipment that were hidden away in brush will be revealed. It certainly isn’t in any way worth having a forest fire for, but it is an interesting side effect. As I mentioned in the prior video in this series, credit for our trip to this mine site goes to Gold Country Explorers. They get out in the forests (mostly in California’s Gold Country) and have an uncanny knack for tracking down stamp mills and other impressive elements of our industrial history – not to mention, a fair number of adits too! Check out their site – they post some great pictures on there: https://www.facebook.com/Gold-Country-Explorers-850167371691275/ It felt good to discover that adit that the Forest Service missed near the top of the hill. They are pretty thorough, but some things are not easy to spot in the forest and many adits are not marked on the topographic map. As I mentioned in the video, I’d like to show you the portal and how this adit was essentially hiding in plain sight. However, if I post that, the Forest Service will be able to find it pretty easily and will be out there as soon as the snow melts to gate it. So, I reluctantly declined to share the view from the outside. Like I said in the video, we need to preserve some of our industrial history outside of a museum. I also think it is important to maintain at least something in the way of the spirit of adventure and the excitement of discovery in our increasingly fearful and risk-averse society. The site of the shaft that we visited toward the end of the video was so badly degraded that I mistakenly speculated that it was an adit (easy to do when there were adits all over the place). However, my subsequent research demonstrated that it was, in fact, a shaft. I could not find many records on it, but the shaft dropped down for almost four hundred feet and apparently had two levels to tap into the hard rock gold veins underground. The large waste rock pile all around that section is supposed to be from the shaft. I’m not sure how the ore was transported from the shaft to the mill, but I’d be curious to know. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference… You can click here for the full playlist of abandoned mines: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L Thanks for watching! ***** Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We enjoy doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a century, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. So, yes, in short, we are adit addicts… I hope you’ll join us on these adventures! #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundMineExploring

Ep.3 The MOOSELAND Abandoned GOLD MINE SITE

10:58
EPISODE 3: A visit to the abandoned Mooseland Gold Mine site, which had been active under many companies for decades.

Top 5 Fun Facts About Gold

00:52
Learn Fun Facts About Gold. Gold never breaks down or gets ruined, so it is frequently melted down and recycled into new items as the years pass. Since about 1500 AD, there has been an estimated total of 100,000 tons of gold that have been mined. Because gold is so soft, it is frequently combined with other kinds of metals when it is made into jewelry. Out of all the nations of the world, India is the one that consumes the most gold in a given year. Fort Knox, in Kentucky, currently contains nearly 150 million ounces of gold, as well as various valuable collectibles.

Mining in the USA:" United States: A Ten Talent Nation" (1922) American Motion Picture Corp.

13:23
Good overview of mining and mineral resources in the US as of 1922, with many nice film clips and lots of statistics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mining Mining is the extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth from an orebody, lode, vein, seam, or reef, which forms the mineralized package of economic interest to the miner. Ores recovered by mining include metals, coal and oil shale, gemstones, limestone, and dimension stone, rock salt and potash, gravel, and clay. Mining is required to obtain any material that cannot be grown through agricultural processes, or created artificially in a laboratory or factory. Mining in a wider sense includes extraction of any non-renewable resource such as petroleum, natural gas, or even water. Mining of stone and metal has been done since pre-historic times. Modern mining processes involve prospecting for ore bodies, analysis of the profit potential of a proposed mine, extraction of the desired materials, and final reclamation of the land after the mine is closed. The nature of mining processes creates a potential negative impact on the environment both during the mining operations and for years after the mine is closed. This impact has led to most of the world's nations adopting regulations to moderate the negative effects of mining operations. Safety has long been a concern as well, and modern practices have improved safety in mines significantly... Mining in the United States became prevalent in the 19th century, and the General Mining Act of 1872 was passed to encourage mining of federal lands. As with the California Gold Rush in the mid 19th century, mining for minerals and precious metals, along with ranching, was a driving factor in the Westward Expansion to the Pacific coast. With the exploration of the West, mining camps were established and "expressed a distinctive spirit, an enduring legacy to the new nation;" Gold Rushers would experience the same problems as the Land Rushers of the transient West that preceded them. Aided by railroads, many traveled West for work opportunities in mining. Western cities such as Denver and Sacramento originated as mining towns. As new areas were explored, it was usually the gold (placer and then load) and then silver that were taken first, with other metals often waiting for railroads or canals. Coarse gold dust and nuggets do not require smelting, is easy to identify and is easily transported. Modern period In the early 20th century, the gold and silver rush to the western United States also stimulated mining for base metals such as copper, lead, and iron as well as coal. Areas in modern Montana, Utah, Arizona, and later Alaska became predominate suppliers of copper to the world, which was increasingly demanding copper for electrical and households goods. Canada's mining industry grew more slowly than the United States due to limitations in transportation, capital, and U.S. competition; Ontario was the major producer of the early 20th century with nickel, copper, and gold. Meanwhile, Australia experienced the Australian gold rushes and by the 1850s was producing 40% of the world's gold, followed by the establishment of large mines such as the Mount Morgan Mine, which ran for nearly a hundred years, Broken Hill ore deposit (one of the largest zinc-lead ore deposits), and iron ore mines at Iron Knob. After declines in production, another boom in mining occurred in the 1960s and in the 21st century Australia remains a major world mineral producer. Into the 21st century, a globalized mining industry of large multinational corporations has arisen. Peak minerals and environmental impacts have also become a concern. Different elements, particularly rare earth minerals, have begun to increase in demand as a result of new technologies...
