Aker Wirth and Rio Tinto - Mobile Tunnel Miner (MTM) Full Version

02:01
Aker Wirth GmbH - Mobile Tunnel Miner Revolution in underground mining Together with Rio Tinto, one of the world's largest mining companies, Aker Wirth developed a new, innovative tunnel boring system for underground tunneling and mining and the Mobile Tunnel Miner (MTM). The machine concept combines the flexibility of a roadheader with the robustness of a tunnel boring machine. The knowledge gained from a previous version developed and tested already by Aker Wirth is also exploited. The self-propelled machine moves on a crawler and a walking mechanism and excavates rock with six powerful hydraulically actuated arms fitted with disc cutters. The muck is conveyed to the rear of the machine by a loading apron with loading disks and via a chain conveyor where it is loaded. This new tunneling system is part of Rio Tinto's Mine of the Future™ programme and will be tested in a full-scale trial at the Rio Tinto Northparkes copper mine in Australia this year. Performance The MTM 6 sets new standards in mining development. In comparison to drill and blast, the MTM 6 is designed to more than double current performance with a potential tunneling rate of of 10 m per day. Energy efficiency With undercutting technology, the MTM 6 is especially efficient with tunneling in hard rock (up to max. 300 MPa). The considerably lower tensile strength of the rock when compared to compressive strength is exploited in this respect. The roller cutters are positioned at a slight angle to the cutter arms, thus undercutting the rock and removing pieces about the size of the palm of a hand. The energy required for undercutting is about half that used for conventional disc cutters on traditional tunnel boring machines. Flexibility & mobility The Mobile Tunnel Miner 6 is able to cut rectangular or horseshoe-shaped cross-sections in addition to circular tunnels with a bore diameter of up to 6 m. This permits the direct boring of the desired tunnel shape, whereas the lower part of a round cross section usually needs to be backfilled where a conventional tunnel boring machine is used. With a flexible bore diameter of up to 6 m, the self-propelled Mobile Tunnel Miner can be used for a variety of applications. The machine is also an innovation in terms of its mobility: it can move flexibly forward using a walking mechanism and backward with a crawler. Thanks to several swivel joints, the turning radius of the 75 m long machine is only 30 m. This means it can master considerably tighter curves than a classic tunnel boring machine which has a turning radius of approximately 500 m under comparable conditions of use. Safety In contrast to drill and blast, which up until now has been the usual method employed in rock of this strength, tunneling with the MTM requires considerably less work from personnel at the tunnel face. The machine is operated from a central control cabin located on the machine itself. The high degree of automation minimises contact between personnel and both moving components and rock. Thanks to its flexibility, the MTM can be easily driven away from the tunnel face for maintenance purposes, which also contributes to the safety of operating personnel. "We will revolutionise safety and efficiency in underground mining with the new Mobile Tunnel Miner", says Einar Brønlund, CEO at Aker Wirth with absolute conviction. "This innovative technology will improve health, safety and environmental protection significantly and makes working conditions more attractive." Support us on Patreon: http://bit.ly/2tdla40 Our journey from the beginning: http://bit.ly/PLFLdayone We are working on installing a more elaborate water system before winter strikes, but we ran in to a huge problem: we needed to dig a trench on a 47 degree slope that had lots of tree roots and was full of rocks. This exact situation made it not ideal for an excavator OR a Ditch Witch, meaning we had to get creative. Jesse remembered that he knew someone that had a tool that used air to dig through soil, and he thought it just may do the task, so he gave him a call to see if we might be able to borrow it. Miraculously, he said yes, and we got to work! While we were off to a slow start due to a learning curve, this tool surpassed our expectations and we now have a 200' ditch 3' deep that we dug using air! Now, we're on to more challenges to getting a cistern and plumbing system in before winter, but at least our ditch is dug which we thought would be the hardest part! How Do Rotary Unions Work in Excavators?

01:04
On an excavator, rotary unions allow hydraulic fluid to be transferred between the cab and track base while continuously rotating 360 degrees. The fluid supplies the track drive system allowing the excavator to move. Learn more at http://www.dsti.com/learn/what-is-a-rotary-union/ Applications suitable for hydraulic rotary unions and swivel joints include forestry (harvesting, loading, material handling), heavy construction (earth moving, land clearing, crane hoisting / material handling), pipeline construction (clearing, grading, ditching, backfilling), landscaping (irrigation, preparation), and surface mining. euronews reporter - Gold Rush In Romania

08:55
http://www.euronews.com/ This mountain contains Europe's biggest gold deposits. With the economic crisis, the price of gold is rocketing and there are plans to open new gold mines in Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Greece, Northern Ireland and Romania. The Rosia Montana - Red Mountain - project is among the most controversial, due to the sheer size of the proposed site, the impact on environment, and the archaeological artefacts from Ancient Rome which are found all over this 2000 year-old site. Team-leader Calin Pal checks the preservation works being carried out in the protected section of the site, criss-crossed by galleries dug by the Romans. He says: "There are at least three generations of miners before me: My great grandfather, my grandfather, and my father. My hope is that the next ten generations will go on mining here too." Most locals feel the same way. They want the Canadian investors to start blasting as soon as possible. But opponents fear that the Roman galleries will be destroyed. To ease tensions, the "Gold Corporation" is investing millions of euros to transform at least part of the Roman galleries into an underground museum. Robert Horvath, an Archaeologist on the site said: "The biggest information is the shape of the gallery: So, when it is geometrical, we know it is Roman. And we find ladders, ancient Roman type. And we find lamp niches and we know that medieval miners did not use the same shape." Calin's men remove the backfill from centuries ago, so that the historic galleries can be mapped. Since 1998, mining in Romania has seen radical changes: 550 mines closed, 80,000 people laid off. The mines from Communist times did not conform with modern regulations, or with EU competition rules. When the Canadian investors arrived, the miners here had high hopes, but opponents fear that few profits will stay in Romania. But Catalin Hosu, Communications Manager for Rosia Montana Gold Corporation said: "We do have the biggest gold deposit in the European Union: over 300 tons of gold. We do have here a proposed investment of over two billion dollars. We are talking about benefits for Romania: over 4 billion dollars, that means over 50% of the total estimated revenues. And we are talking about creating thousands of jobs." To allay fears about pollution from the cyanide, the company has designed a dam. It will be strong enough to withstand an earthquake of 8 degrees on the Richter scale. Sorin Jurca, Rosia Montana Cultural Foundation, said: "All this area will be destroyed: The Corna valley over there, where 40 families still live, with two churches and with graveyards. The company wants to build a big dam and a lake covering 600 hectares. If they'll build the dam, all of this will disappear from the surface of this planet." Most of the inhabitants have already agreed to be resettled 70kms away, near Alba Iulia. On the outskirts of the town, the company has spent almost 30 million euros building 125 new houses and a church. Back in the mining region, ex-miners are hoping for new jobs, and a new economic future. But the Roma families fear they are being sidelined when it comes to hiring - out of the 480 people taken on so far, only 30 are Roma. Dorinel Pantir, a former Roma miner from Daroaia, said: "Gold Corporation should talk to us directly, not through the local mayor's people. We should set up a committee to sign a protocol with Gold Corporation so that at least one member of each Roma family will be hired." The decline of mining here has led to unemployment rates of around 80% and young people are leaving. But life has always been hard here. In the 50s, during the Communist era gold prospectors had problems too. Ioan Catalina, a gold prospector, explained: "The Secret Service police shouted: "To the wall, face the wall! And he started waving his pistol around, threatening us. "I could shoot you on the spot! But you have one last chance!" So my grandfather and his friend destroyed their gold milling equipment." The red water from the old galleries is so polluted nothing can survive in it. The Gold Corporation has built a water treatment station, a high-tech lab, using nano-filter technology. The says it will clean up not only its own waste water, but also the mess from past centuries. Catalin Hosu, Communications Manager, Rosia Montana Gold Corporation said: "What you see here is historic pollution. Maybe for hundreds of years. It is very acidic water. But it can be cleaned up. We have a pilot station, proving this. And this is the result: clean and drinkable water." EXCAVATION and BASEMENT CONSTRUCTION

06:33
In general, excavation means to loosen and take out materials leaving space above or below ground. Sometimes in civil engineering term earthwork is used which include backfilling with new or original materials to voids, spreading and levelling over an area. British Standard CP6031 gives standards and recommendation to earthworks covering embarkment and cuttings, levelling and compacting, and the use of earthmoving plants etc. I/ Excavation in most situations nowadays is done by mechanical means. However, the exact method to be adopted still depends upon a number of factors: 1. Nature of subsoil – affect type of machine used and the necessity of soil protection. 2. Size of excavation – affect type of machine used and method to excavate. 3. Scale of work – large volume of excavation may involve complicated phasing arrangement and work planning 4. Ground water condition – affect degree of protection (watertight sheet piling or dewatering may required.) 5. Surrounding condition – impose certain restrictions and precautions (eg. diversion of a government drain, or underpinning work to the nearby building foundation) II/ Deep excavation Deep excavation, unlike a shallow one, often requires to protect the sides of cut using suitable support. Besides, the problem of ground water cannot be avoided. There are methods to overcome this, such as: 1. Dumpling method: The method is to construct a series of retaining wall in trench, section by section, around the site perimeter, leaving a centre Called "dumpling". When the perimeter walls are in place, excavation may start at the centre of the dumpling, until exposing a section of the wall. Then the wall may be side supported by struts, shoring or soil anchor etc., again section by section in short length, until the excavation is all completed. This method does not require much heavy mechanical equipment and thus cost of work is relatively lower. It can excavate up to a maximum depth of about 3m. Sometimes in very poor soil or in waterlogged ground, interlocking steel sheet pile may be driven to confine the area to be excavated. After that excavation can be done in section and properly supported similar to that mentioned above. By the using of sheet pile, excavation may reach maximum to about 15m. However, the cost of work will be increased. 2. Diaphragm walling This method need to construct a R.C. retaining wall along the area of work. Because the wall is designed to reach very great depth, mechanical excavating method is employed. A typical sequence of work includes: a) Construct a guide wall; b) Excavation for the diaphragm wall c) Excavation support using bentonite slurry; d) Inert reinforcement and concreting 3. Using cofferdams A cofferdam may be defined as a temporary box structure constructed in earth or water to exclude soil or water from a construction area, such as for foundation or basement works. Use of cofferdam suitable for excavation of larger scale can be of: a) Sheet pile cofferdam – Also known as single skin cofferdam. Sheet pile, in this case, acts as a cantilever member to support the soil, therefore, adequate depth of pile or suitable toe treatment may be required. In addition, cofferdams are needed to be braced and strutted or anchored using tie rods or ground anchors. b) Double skin cofferdam – This works similarly like the sheet pile to form a diaphragm. However, the diaphragm is double-skinned using two parallel rows of sheet pile with a filling material placed in the void between. This creates somewhat a gravity retaining structure and increase the ability to counteract the soil behind. However, more working space is required. 4. Sheet Steel Piling Steel, amongst other materials such as timber, is most effective to be used as sheet pile due to its high tensile as well as their interlocking ability. It can be used as timbering to excavation in soft and/or waterlogged soils especially in a congested site where there is no enough space for complicated shoring. 5. Ground anchor Ground anchor is basically a pre-stressing tendon embedded and anchored into soil or rock to provide resistance to structural movements by a “tying back" principle.

Surface mining

11:24
Surface mining, including strip mining, open-pit mining and mountaintop removal mining, is a broad category of mining in which soil and rock overlying the mineral deposit are removed. It is the opposite of underground mining, in which the overlying rock is left in place, and the mineral removed through shafts or tunnels. Surface mining began in the mid-sixteenth century and is practiced throughout the world, although the majority of surface mining occurs in North America. It gained popularity throughout the 20th century, and is now the predominant form of mining in coal beds such as those in Appalachia and America's Midwest. This video is targeted to blind users. Space Engineers - Distributed Ore Sorter, Basic Conveyor Switch

05:37
Heres a design for an Ore Sorter that I've been mucking about with. Conveyors are hard to control but we do the best we can to make some rudimentary switches. This is a creative mode mock up, in survival it integrates easily into a base, it doesnt matter where your connector/collector combos are, snake the tubes wherever they need to go. Send exact amounts of specific ores to specific refineries!

RC ADVENTURES - Tuning & Second Run of my Gas Powered Losi LST XXL2 1/8th Scale Monster Truck

07:00
Click Here To Subscribe! ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU - Today this truck performed very well for me.. and I can feel the power of the engine starting to settle in. I have a feeling in 2 more tanks through this 1/8th scale Monster Truck, and it is going to be rippin' it up! I put it through it's paces in this video, though this film is only 7 minutes long - I ran it for a good hour. For the first part, off camera, I wanted to ensure the engine was properly broken in before I did anything crazy. Then I felt more comfortable with the rig - and did some jumping, did some speed runs, and got it a little dirty.. The AVC really does help. I find it wasn't as tippy as I expected.. still tons of power pulling out of the corners.. First Person 2017: Manny Mandel

51:14
Through the First Person program, Holocaust survivors have the opportunity to share their remarkable personal stories of hope, tragedy, and survival with thousands of visitors at the Museum. This program was recorded on August 3, 2017. It features Emanuel (Manny) Mandel. Manny was born in Riga, Latvia, on May 8, 1936. Soon afterwards, his parents returned to Hungary, where they had lived before 1933. In June 1944, Manny and his mother were among almost 1700 Jews who were to be permitted to leave Nazi-occupied Europe. They were sent instead to Bergen-Belsen. Six months later, they were released and sent to Switzerland.
Classic Machines: Clark-Michigan's wheel dozers

01:13
Clark-Michigan wheel dozers: an overview by Richard Campbell Michigan wheel dozers were well accepted by the earthmoving industry and found use in all manner of operations. Michigan was not the first manufacturer to offer a wheel type bulldozer. That honour belongs to R G LeTourneau who pretty much came up with the concept in the first place. Initially based on the chassis of one of Michigan’s existing line of wheel loaders, the model 180 was nevertheless regarded as a success and development of other machines followed. It became apparent to Michigan, however, that some modifications were required to fully realise the potential of its wheel dozer, resulting in the development of a dedicated wheel dozer chassis, rather than adaptation of an existing loader chassis. This was very much a step in the right direction, and the models 180-II, 280 and 380 wheel dozers were introduced the following year. These machines were accepted well by the industry and found use in all manner of operations from earthmoving to industrial stockpiling and forestry. They were particularly well regarded in Europe where sales of the Michigan wheel dozers outstripped those of LeTourneau. The chief drawback of the design was the wide area needed to manoeuver around as the machines all had rear-wheel steering as did almost all of the wheel loaders and dozers of the time. LeTourneau’s machines were superior in this respect as their steering acted more like a skid-steer loader of today allowing them to execute a 180 degree turn in practically their own length. This though, while convenient, was quite hard on tyres. A solution was close at hand, however, with the development of articulated steering. First pioneered on Mixermobile’s ‘Scoopmobile’ wheel loaders, the concept soon caught on and by the mid 1960s, most major manufacturers, including Michigan, were offering articulated steer machines. Michigan applied this new technology to all its wheel dozers except the 180 which by then was up to its 180-III version. Michigan was also at the leading edge when it came to large wheel dozers. Its biggest machine, the 52-ton model 480, was introduced in 1958 and featured a 14-foot blade and 20 miles per hour top speed. An articulated version of this machine first appeared in 1965 and found immediate acceptance in surface mines where its speed, blade capacity and agility made it the ideal tool to clean up around face shovels in the pit. It remained in production until Clark-Michigan withdrew from the heavy equipment business. Michigan dozers were offered with a choice of powerplant; either Cummins or GM Detroit Diesel. The remainder of the powertrain – comprising the converter, transmission, drivelines, differentials and axles – was manufactured by Clark at its Benton Harbour, Michigan, factory. On rigid frame machines, the operator was well placed at the front of the machine in an elevated position where he had a good view of both corners of the blade. Steering was via the rear axle and power assisted by two hydraulic rams. Full instrumentation was provided on a panel on either side of the steering column, directly in front of the operator. Articulated versions placed the operator on the rear module but with a similar control tower view of the work area. They were also far more agile than their rigid-frame predecessors with a twin-ram steering system giving them a steering angle of almost 30 degrees. It is not known why an articulated version of the model 180 was never produced. Thanks for checking out NZ Contractor magazine's wheel dozers clip. Click Here To Subscribe! ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU - I was able to take my loader out and have a good time today. This is the first time I have used it, but set up the controls on the transmitter just like my full scale cat skid steer. It certainly made it an easy switch over. I also took out my 1/12 scale Earth Digger Excavator, and converted Tonka Dump truck (now radio controlled). First I used the excavator to break up some of the soil, then I used the loader to fill the dump truck. The dump truck is 4WD, and the loader has a selectable 2 speed transmission, mixed with locking differential. Yes, the wheel loader is hydraulic as well. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. Learning by listening is a great way to: - increases imagination and understanding - improves your listening skills - improves your own spoken accent - learn while on the move - reduce eye strain Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone. The city is the sixth-largest in France, with a population of 303,382 in Nantes and a metropolitan area of nearly 950,000 inhabitants. With Saint-Nazaire, a seaport on the Loire estuary, Nantes forms the main north-western French metropolis. It is the administrative seat of the Loire-Atlantique department and the Pays de la Loire région, one of 18 regions of France. Nantes belongs historically and culturally to Brittany, a former duchy and province, and its omission from the modern administrative region of Brittany is controversial. Nantes was identified during classical antiquity as a port on the Loire. It was the seat of a bishopric at the end of the Roman era before it was conquered by the Bretons in 851. Although Nantes was the primary residence of the 15th-century dukes of Brittany, Rennes became the provincial capital after the 1532 union of Brittany and France. During the 17th century, after the establishment of the French colonial empire, Nantes gradually became the largest port in France and was responsible for nearly half of the 18th-century French Atlantic slave trade. The French Revolution resulted in an economic decline, but Nantes developed robust industries after 1850 (chiefly in shipbuilding and food processing). Deindustrialisation in the second half of the 20th century spurred the city to adopt a service economy. In 2012, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranked Nantes as a Gamma world city. It is the fourth-highest-ranking city in France, after Paris, Lyon and Marseille. The Gamma category includes cities such as Algiers, Orlando, Porto, Turin and Leipzig. Nantes has been praised for its quality of life, and it received the European Green Capital Award in 2013. The European Commission noted the city's efforts to reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions, its high-quality and well-managed public transport system and its biodiversity, with 3,366 hectares (8,320 acres) of green space and several protected Natura 2000 areas.
